EDD certification stuck on pending for 8 days - normal wait time or problem?

I certified for my weekly benefits on Sunday morning like I always do, but it's still showing as 'pending' in my UI Online account. It's been 8 days now, and usually it switches to 'paid' within 24-48 hours. I'm getting really worried because rent is due next week. Is this normal right now or should I be calling EDD? I've heard their phone lines are impossible to get through. How long have others been waiting to go from pending to paid status recently?

That's what I was afraid of. I'll try calling tomorrow morning first thing. Not looking forward to the wait times though.

The standard processing time should be 24-48 hours to switch from pending to paid after certification. However, it's not uncommon for claims to get stuck pending if there's any issue with your certification or if your claim has a flag on it for review. Here are some common reasons for delays: 1. Your reported earnings triggered a review 2. You answered 'yes' to a question that needs manual verification 3. Your benefit year is ending and needs renewal 4. There's a quarterly review happening on your claim 5. The system flagged something unusual in your certification pattern I'd definitely recommend calling EDD at this point. Eight days is too long for a routine certification.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I did answer 'no' to looking for work on one of the weeks because I was sick, so maybe that's it? I had a doctor's note but there was nowhere to upload it.

This EXACT thing happened to me last month! Was pending for almost 2 weeks!!! When I finally got through to EDD they said there was a 'quarterly review flag' on my account. Whatever that means. Took 5 seconds for them to fix it once I actually talked to someone. But good luck getting through those phone lines lol.

Oh great, sounds like I definitely need to call then. Did you just keep calling over and over until you got through?

I used to have this problem constantly! The key is actually getting through to EDD. After wasting hours redialing, I found this service called Claimyr that gets you through to an EDD agent without the endless busy signals. It's at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Basically they call EDD for you and connect you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration because once you actually talk to someone, they can usually fix the pending status immediately. Worth checking out if you keep hitting the 'maximum callers' message.

Does this actually work? Seems kinda sketchy. I've been pending for 5 days myself and getting worried.

It really does work. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. Got connected to an agent within an hour and they fixed my pending payments right away. The agent told me they're just backlogged with claims right now.

anybody else notice that EDD always gets backed up around holidays????? my theory is they're short-staffed and claims pile up. Im STILL wating for my payment from 2 weeks ago too. The whole system is designed to make people give up i swear

I don't think that's what's happening. The EDD system processes most claims automatically. When you get stuck in pending, it usually means something in your specific certification triggered a manual review. The timing is probably just coincidence.

I work in HR and deal with EDD matters frequently. The standard processing time from pending to paid is 24-48 hours, but there are exceptions. Answering 'no' to looking for work can definitely trigger a hold, especially if you didn't provide additional information in the certification about why you weren't able to look for work. You mentioned being sick - if you were too ill to work, you should have explained that in the section where it asks why you weren't looking for work. For future reference, temporary illness can be an acceptable reason not to search for work, but you need to document it properly in your certification. At this point, calling is your best option. When you speak with a representative, explain that you were ill and have documentation. They may be able to clear the pending status immediately.

I did put in the comments that I was sick, but maybe I needed to be more specific? I guess I'll find out when I call. Thanks for the insight!

I certified on the same day as you and mine went to paid in 2 days! Something's definitely wrong with yours. Good luck calling them.

Just to follow up on this thread - after you call and get this resolved, make sure you're aware of the work search requirements for certification. You generally need to be looking for work and documenting at least 3 work search activities per week, even if you're ill for a short period. For longer illnesses that prevent you from working, you might actually qualify for SDI (State Disability Insurance) instead of UI. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

Thank you! I'm going to call first thing tomorrow and hopefully get this resolved. I'll be more careful about the work search activities documentation in the future. It was just a 3-day flu but I'll make sure to be very clear in my comments next time.
