Certified yesterday but EDD payment stuck on 'pending' status - how long should this take?

I just certified for benefits yesterday morning around 6am and normally by now my payment would have switched from pending to paid. It's been over 24 hours and still showing as pending in my UI Online account. I haven't missed any certifications, answered all questions the same as usual (looking for work, able and available, no income to report, etc). Nothing has changed in my claim circumstances. This is week 8 of my claim and I've never had this happen before - payments have always processed by the next day. Should I be worried? Has anyone else experienced random delays recently with their EDD payments? I have bills due on the 1st and really counting on this money...

mine did that last week took 3 days to go from pending to paid instead of the usual 1 day. just wait a little longer before you panic

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better. Did you ever find out why it took longer? I'm just worried because I haven't changed anything in how I certified.

There could be several reasons for the delay: 1. EDD system maintenance or processing backlog 2. Random quarterly review flag on your account 3. Changes in work search requirements that triggered a review 4. Holiday processing delays (if applicable) I'd suggest waiting at least 3-4 business days before taking action. If it's still pending after that, you might want to contact EDD. The quarterly review flags happen randomly and can delay payments even if you've been certifying the same way.

Yeah the quarterly reviews are STUPID. They never tell you when they're doing one and then all of a sudden you're stuck with a pending payment for no reason. Classic EDD incompetence!!

I had the same issue last month. My payment was pending for 5 days which had never happened before. I tried calling EDD 42 times and couldn't get through. Finally I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. Turns out there was a flag on my account for a quarterly review even though I'd done nothing different. The rep removed the flag while I was on the phone and my payment switched to paid within hours. There's a video of how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - definitely worth it when you're stressing about getting bills paid.

That's helpful info, thank you. If it's not resolved by Friday I might try that service. I didn't even know quarterly reviews were a thing! The lack of communication from EDD is so frustrating.

Sometimes the EDD system just glitches. I've seen payments get stuck in pending status for various reasons: - System maintenance (especially on weekends/holidays) - Random eligibility verification flags - High volume certification periods - Identity verification triggers Most of the time these resolve themselves within 3-4 days. If not, you'll need to contact EDD. Check your UI Online inbox too - sometimes they send notices about delays that don't get emailed to you.

Good point about checking my inbox on UI Online - I just did and there's nothing there. Hoping it's just a temporary glitch like you mentioned!

did u answer anything different when u certified?? sometimes even ONE wrong answer can trigger a stop payment alert. also if this is ur first certification after the end of a quarter that can trigger a review. check ur work search record to make sure it's updated

No, I answered everything exactly the same as always. But it could be the quarterly thing since we just started July. That makes sense based on what others are saying. I'll double-check my work search records though, thanks!

The same thing happened to me and it turned out they wanted additional verification of my work search activities. Did you get an email notification or message in your UI Online inbox? Sometimes they don't tell you there's an issue until you call. If it doesn't change in 3 days I'd definitely try to reach them by phone.

good luck with THAT!!! I tried calling EDD 60+ times last month and not once did I get through. their phone system is a JOKE and they know it!!!

Quick update question - did your payment status change yet? If it's been more than 72 hours, it's probably worth contacting EDD directly. Sometimes pending payments can indicate they need additional information from you, but they don't always notify you promptly.

It just switched to paid this morning! Looks like it was just a delay, maybe due to the quarterly review thing people mentioned. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!
