EDD claim stuck on 'pending' instead of 'paid' - unusual delay?

So I certified for my weekly benefits on Sunday morning like I always do (around 7am), but my claim still shows 'pending' in the UI Online portal. Usually by Tuesday morning it switches to 'paid' and the money hits my Money Network card by Wednesday. It's been 3 days now and nothing's changed - still stuck on pending! No notifications or messages about any issues with my claim. My rent is due next week and I'm starting to get nervous. Anyone else experiencing longer-than-usual pending times this week? Should I be worried or is the EDD system just running slow?

Mine is also still pending from Sunday certification. This happened to me once before and it was because they randomly flagged my claim for an eligibility interview, but they never notified me until I called. You should check your UI Online inbox and see if there are any messages about an interview or additional info needed. If nothing there, might need to call.

Just checked my inbox again and there's nothing there. No messages or alerts at all. Did you have to wait a long time when you called last time this happened to you?

This happens sometimes. I wouldn't panic yet. Sometimes the system gets backlogged especially around holidays or end of quarters. Give it another day before freaking out.

When your payment gets stuck in pending status without any explanation, it's usually one of a few things: 1. Quarterly income review - At the beginning of each quarter, EDD sometimes automatically reviews your claim to verify continued eligibility 2. Work search requirement flag - They might be checking if you met your work search requirements for those weeks 3. Identity verification issue - Sometimes ID.me verification needs to be redone 4. System delay - Occasionally there are processing delays across the system Your best option is to call EDD directly. Unfortunately, the regular number (1-800-300-5616) is nearly impossible to get through on. I recommend calling the technical support line first (1-833-978-2511) to see if they can identify any flags on your account before trying the main number.

Thank you for the detailed response! I was able to check and there's no quarterly review pending (already did that last month) and I've been uploading my work search records every week. My ID.me verification shouldn't be an issue since it's been fine for months. Guess I'll have to try calling tomorrow morning.

My daughter's boyfriend had this EXACT same problem two weeks ago!!!! It was stuck on pending for like 5 days and he kept calling but couldn't get through. The phone lines are RIDICULOUS. He tried calling right when they opened at 8am and the system would say "we're experiencing high call volume" and hang up on him! Can you believe that??? He finally got through to someone and they said it was because his claim needed to be reviewed manually for some reason, but they never bothered to tell him that. So frustrating.

That's exactly what's happening to me with the calls! I've tried calling at least 10 times today and keep getting that message. Did they explain to him why his claim needed manual review? Was there anything specific he said when he finally got through that helped?

if ur claim says pending for more than 48 hrs after certification, theres def something wrong. EDD doesnt just randomly delay payments without a reason. u probably answered one of the certification questions wrong or theres an issue with ur claim. id check all ur previous certifications and make sure u didnt mess up somewhere. also check if u hit the benefit year end date, that always causes delays.

This isn't entirely accurate. While payment delays can indicate an issue, the EDD system does occasionally experience processing delays that affect large numbers of claimants simultaneously. These system-wide delays typically resolve within 72-96 hours. Before assuming there's a problem with your specific claim, it's worth checking if others are reporting similar delays during the same timeframe, which seems to be the case here based on multiple comments.

I had a similar issue last month where my payment got stuck in pending. I spent DAYS trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it would hang up. Super frustrating! I finally tried using Claimyr.com and got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They found out my claim had been flagged for review because I had reported some part-time work hours. The rep was able to push my payment through right on the call. You can see how the service works in this video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km It was totally worth it to get the issue resolved before my rent was due instead of stressing for another week.

Update: I FINALLY got through to someone at EDD after trying all morning! The rep said there was a "quarterly review flag" on my account that needed manual clearing. She said lots of claims are getting this flag right now because they're implementing a new review system. She removed the flag and said my payment should process within 24-48 hours. So hopefully by Friday I'll see the money. She also mentioned they're extremely understaffed right now which is causing longer processing times.

That's great news! Thanks for updating us. It's helpful to know what the issue was. Seems like they're having a systemic problem with these quarterly reviews. Glad you got it sorted out.

Just a heads up for everyone - I just checked and my payment finally changed from pending to paid! Took almost 5 days but it finally processed. Sounds like they're having system-wide delays this week.

That's good to hear! Mine just switched to paid too! What a relief. Seems like they really are just backed up right now.
