EDD payment delays after interview - only one payment received
I'm seriously stressed about my unemployment claim right now. Had my phone interview with EDD last week (actually got through!) and the agent just told me to "keep certifying" but didn't really explain anything else. I've only received ONE payment so far despite certifying for 3 weeks already. The UI Online account just shows "pending" for the other weeks. Is this normal? How long after the interview should I expect to see those pending payments change to paid? Should I be doing something else besides just certifying every two weeks? Getting really anxious as rent is coming up...

After your interview, the EDD agent needs to process your claim information which can take 3-5 business days in most cases. If the interview went well and there weren't any issues identified, your pending payments should switch to paid status within a week. However, the current processing times are longer than usual - I've seen some claims take up to 10-14 days after the interview to update. The fact they told you to keep certifying is a good sign, usually means they don't see major eligibility issues.

•Thanks for that explanation! My interview seemed to go fine, no red flags that I could tell. It's been 8 days since the interview though... getting worried. Does calling them help speed things up at all?

Your payment should come through soon. EDD is taking 10-14 days after interviews to process payments right now. The system is dealing with a backlog. Make sure your work search information is detailed when you certify - generic entries can trigger manual review which adds more delays. Also double check that your payment method is set up correctly in UI Online (direct deposit or Money Network card).

My brother had the same thing happen in February. Got 1 payment then waited forever. Turns out there was an identity verification issue they never told him about. He finally had to call to figure it out. Maybe check if there's any issues flagged on your account?

•I didn't see any alerts or flags on my UI Online account, but maybe there's something that doesn't show up? How can I check for hidden issues?

Try calling them. Seriously. I had the EXACT same situation. After my interview, the rep said 'just keep certifying' but my payments stayed pending for almost a month!!! When I finally got through to someone, turns out they needed additional employment verification they never told me about. Once I submitted it, payments were released TWO DAYS LATER. DON'T WAIT like I did. The system is broken and stuff gets stuck all the time without notifications. Call now, don't assume it's just processing normally.

•I wasted SO much time trying to get through to EDD when my payments were stuck. What worked for me was using Claimyr. It's a service that helps you skip the busy signals and holds with EDD. Got through in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days before. They have a demo video of how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. When I finally got through, turned out my employer had contested something, and the agent fixed it right away.

•2 MONTHS?!?! That's completely unacceptable!!! People have rent, food, utilities to pay! This is why I tell EVERYONE to be super proactive with EDD. They need to overhaul this entire broken system. The delays weren't even this bad during COVID!

After your eligibility interview, there are a few specific things to check that can affect payment timing: 1. Check your UI Online inbox for any additional document requests 2. Verify your identity verification (ID.me) is complete and linked to your claim 3. Confirm your certifications show "pending" and not "disqualified" or "not paid" 4. Make sure you answered all certification questions correctly (especially work search) If you've certified for weeks that show as "pending" for more than 10 days after your interview, you should definitely call. Sometimes there's a flag on the account that only a representative can see and remove.

•I checked all these things and everything seems to be in order. My ID.me was completed during the initial application, my inbox is empty, and all weeks show as "pending" not disqualified. I guess I really do need to call them. I'll try the regular number again tomorrow, and if that doesn't work I might try that service someone mentioned.

Quick update for you - there's currently a known issue with some claims after eligibility interviews. If the interviewer set your claim to "conditional payment" status but forgot to remove a temporary hold, it can get stuck in pending. Only a tier 2 representative can fix this. When you call, specifically request a tier 2 rep if the first person can't immediately see the issue. Hope this helps!

•This is really helpful info! I'll specifically ask for a tier 2 rep when I call. I didn't even know there were different tiers of representatives. Thank you!

•Contacting your assembly member can definitely help with severely delayed claims. However, make sure you've tried calling EDD directly first. Documenting your call attempts (dates/times) will strengthen your case when you reach out to the assembly member's office. They typically want to see that you've made reasonable efforts to resolve it through normal channels before they intervene.

Just wanted to follow up and see if you've had any luck getting your payments processed? Did you end up calling EDD? Sometimes after the interview, they're waiting for employer verification which can cause delays but they don't always tell you that's what they're waiting for.

•I finally got through yesterday! You were right - there was an employer response issue. My former employer disputed my reason for separation (claimed I quit when I was actually laid off). The rep put me on hold, called my employer, sorted it out, and released all my pending payments! They should be in my account within 24-48 hours. Such a relief! Thanks for all the advice everyone.
