EDD stuck on pending after certification mistake - can't get through phone lines

I messed up big time on my bi-weekly certification last Sunday - accidentally put that I was 'available for work' as NO instead of YES (was half asleep doing it at 6am). Now my payment's been sitting as 'pending' for 5 days when it normally goes to paid within 24 hours. I've called the EDD literally 35+ times using every phone number I could find (833 number, 800 number, even tried the employer line). Nothing but 'we're experiencing high call volume' and immediate disconnect. I've sent THREE messages through UI Online contact system and radio silence. Bills are piling up and my landlord is already giving me the side-eye about rent. Anyone know any tricks to actually speak to a human being at EDD? Or can I somehow fix this certification mistake online without talking to someone? Getting desperate here!

3 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long...my car payment is due next Friday. Did you just keep calling or did you try something else?

Try calling exactly at 8:01am. That's when I got through last month. Also make sure you're calling on Tuesday or Wednesday, those are usually less busy than Monday or Friday. Good luck!

this doesnt work anymore btw... they changed their phone system in february. now all calls go into same queue no matter what time u call 😠

okay so i had this EXACT problem last month and the trick is you need to call, press 1 for english, then 2-4-1 in that order when prompted. it'll take you to the claims department faster. but you still gotta be persistent and keep calling back if you get the high volume message.

Thanks, I'll try that menu sequence! Did they fix your certification mistake right away once you got through?

they fixed it while i was on the phone! took like 5 minutes once i finally got an agent. my payment went from pending to paid that same night.

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was in exactly the same situation last month - needed to fix a certification mistake and couldn't get through for days. A friend recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD rep in under 20 minutes. They have this system that keeps dialing for you until they get through, then they call you back when they have an EDD agent on the line. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep was able to correct my certification answer immediately and my payment switched from pending to paid that same day. Totally worth it for me since I was about to miss my rent payment.

I second this recommendation. I was skeptical at first, but after trying to call EDD for literally 4 days straight, I used Claimyr and got through in about 25 minutes. When you consider how much time I wasted trying to call myself (probably 8+ hours total), it was definitely worth it.

Thanks for this! Just checked out their site. Has anyone else used this service successfully? I'm a little nervous about trying something new but I'm getting desperate.

Certification errors are a common issue, and unfortunately they do require an EDD representative to manually correct them. While many people find success with third-party services that help get through the phone lines, there are two additional options you might consider: 1. Contact your state assembly member's office. They have dedicated EDD liaisons who can often resolve issues within 3-5 business days. Google "[your county] state assembly member" to find yours. 2. If you have access to an America's Job Center (formerly OneStop), they sometimes have direct lines to EDD representatives. Whichever method you choose, be prepared with your claim number and specific details about the certification correction needed. The representative will need to manually override your certification answer, which they can do while you're on the phone. Once corrected, payments typically process within 24-48 hours.

Thank you for these suggestions! I hadn't thought about contacting my assembly member. I'll try the phone tricks first thing tomorrow morning, but if that doesn't work, I'll probably try Claimyr since I need this fixed ASAP. Really appreciate everyone's help!

just wondering did u try the automated self service number? 1-866-333-4606? sometimes u can fix certification mistakes there without talking to anyone

This is partially correct, but unfortunately the automated system only allows you to resubmit a certification if it hasn't been processed yet. Once it's in 'pending' status, as in the original poster's case, a representative needs to manually correct it. The automated system is helpful for other situations though, like checking payment status or certifying for benefits.

Just wanted to jump in and say I had this EXACT same issue two months ago and what worked for me was persistent calling between 10:30-11:30am. For some reason that seemed to be when their call volume dipped a bit. I got through after about 12 tries one Wednesday morning around 10:45. The rep fixed my mistake in like 2 minutes and my payment switched from pending to paid that night. Just keep trying different times - there's definitely a sweet spot when it's easier to get through!

UPDATE: I finally got through!!! Used Claimyr this morning after failing again with regular calling. Got connected to an EDD rep in about 35 minutes. The agent was super nice and fixed my certification answer while I was on the phone. She said it was a common mistake and took less than 5 minutes to correct. My payment already switched from pending to paid! Thanks everyone for your suggestions - this community seriously saved me!

Great news! For future reference, if you ever make certification mistakes again, contact EDD immediately. The longer a pending payment sits in the system with an error, the more likely it is to trigger additional review processes. Glad you got it resolved quickly!
