EDD error: Not enough wages for new claim despite 2 years W2 contractor work - Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD. I got this error message saying I didn't earn enough wages to establish a new claim, but that's not right. I've been working as a contractor on W2 for two years and just got let go. Now I'm trying to file for benefits and I'm stuck. Has anyone else run into this? What should I do? I really need to talk to someone at EDD about this but we all know how that goes...

I found a way to solve EDD wage calculation error issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYIya2aKfMU

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. I swear their system is held together with duct tape and prayers. Have you tried uploading your W2s to your online account? Sometimes that helps trigger a review.

I didn't even know you could upload documents online! Where do I find that option?

Log into UI Online, go to "Upload Documents" under the menu. It's not super obvious but it's there. Good luck!

Have you checked if you qualify for PUA instead? Sometimes contractors have better luck with that program.

I thought PUA ended? Is it still available?

Yo, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy af. You sure this isn't a scam?

Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate. It actually worked and I got through to someone in like an hour.

I used Claimyr too, and it did help me connect with a representative. However, keep in mind that there's still a queue, and it may not guarantee immediate resolution. Make sure to have all your documents ready for when you do get through.

I had the EXACT same issue last year. Turns out, they hadn't processed my most recent W2 yet. I had to call and speak to a tier 2 rep to get it sorted. Took forever but it worked.

How long did it take you to get through to a tier 2 rep? I've been calling for days with no luck.

Honestly? It took me about 2 weeks of constant calling. I set up an auto-dialer on my phone and just let it run while I did other stuff. It's a nightmare.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through faster.

I didn't even think of that! How do I find out who my assembly member is?

Just Google "[your city] assembly member" and it should pop up. Most have forms on their websites for constituent services. Worth a shot!

Bruh, I've been in the same boat for MONTHS. EDD is a black hole where claims go to die. Good luck!

Just a heads up, even if you get this sorted, be prepared for a long wait. I finally got my claim approved after 3 months of back and forth. Stay strong!

Here's what you need to do, step by step: 1. Gather all your W2s from the last 18 months. Make sure you have EVERYTHING. 2. Log into your UI Online account and upload those documents under the "Upload Documents" section. 3. Call the EDD main line as soon as they open (8:00 AM). Keep calling until you get through. 4. When you do get through, ask to speak to a tier 2 representative. Be polite but firm. 5. Explain your situation clearly. Mention you've uploaded your W2s and that you believe there's an error in their wage calculation. 6. If they can't help, ask about filing an appeal or request for reconsideration. 7. If all else fails, contact your local assembly member's office for help. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but you'll get through eventually.

Great advice! I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and who you spoke to. It helps if you need to escalate later.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds like some 1990s nonsense, but sometimes it actually works faster than their online system.

Faxing? Are you serious? What year is it? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I sympathize with you regarding the EDD processโ€”it can be really daunting and frustrating. However, there are several approaches you can take. First, consider utilizing services like Claimyr for expedited communication with EDD. While there is a fee, many have found it valuable for jump-starting the process. Still, make sure to verify any service's credibility and weigh the costs and benefits. Additionally, following the advice of reaching out to your local assembly member can sometimes prompt quicker intervention, as they can advocate on your behalf. Another potential avenue is consistently trying to get through EDD phone lines, especially early in the morning right when they open. Persistence here can often lead to eventually speaking with a representative. Finally, if you suspect an error in your wage process, ensure you have all the correct documentation ready, like W2s and any recent pay stubs, which might be required to rectify any oversight. Balancing these approaches with patience and persistence is key to navigating the EDD system successfully.
