EDD says I didn't earn enough for new claim after 4 years of work - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with my unemployment account. It's telling me to reapply for benefits, but when I do, it says I didn't earn enough wages to establish a new claim. This doesn't make sense because I've been working for 4 years straight. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any advice on what to do next?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. The EDD system is such a mess rn. I've been trying to get through to someone for weeks. It's like they don't want us to get our benefits 🙄

•Have you tried calling early in the morning? I heard that's the best time to get through.

•Yeah, I've tried everything. Early morning, late afternoon, even during lunch. No luck 😫

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

•How long did you have to wait for the callback?

•It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than trying to call yourself

Ok, here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check your work history. Make sure all your employers from the last 18 months are listed correctly. 2. If everything looks right, you might be dealing with a wage reporting issue. Sometimes employers don't report wages correctly. 3. Try to file an appeal. You should be able to do this online or by mail. 4. Gather all your pay stubs and W-2 forms from the last 18 months. You'll need these to prove your work history. 5. If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting your local assemblyperson or state senator. They often have direct lines to EDD. 6. As a last resort, consider filing a new claim by phone. Sometimes the online system glitches. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely start working through these steps. Quick question - how do I find my local assemblyperson?

This happened to me last year. Turns out one of my employers hadn't reported my wages correctly. I had to contact them and have them submit a correction to EDD. It took forever, but it eventually got sorted out.

•It took about 2 months all told. But once it was fixed, I got backpay for all the weeks I missed. So hang in there!

Hey Anthony, I went through something similar a few months ago! The first thing I'd recommend is logging into your EDD account and checking the "Wage and Potential Benefit Inquiry" section to see exactly what wages they have on file for you. Sometimes there's a lag in wage reporting, especially if you had a recent job change. If the wages look incorrect or incomplete, you'll want to contact your previous employers to make sure they submitted their quarterly wage reports to EDD properly. Also, make sure you're looking at the right base period - EDD uses a specific 12-month period to calculate eligibility, not just any recent 12 months. The system can be confusing but don't give up! You've got this 💪
