EDD unemployment payments suddenly stopped in May - no explanation, what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. I filed my claim back in January and was getting payments regularly until May. Then, out of nowhere, they just stopped. I haven't received any notices or letters from EDD explaining why. I'm really confused and worried about what's going on. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any advice on what I should do or say when I finally get through to them on the phone?

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things along with EDD.

I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my assembly member is?

Just google "[your city] assembly member". They usually have a form on their website for EDD issues. Worked for me!

This! 💯 My assemblyman's office got my issue fixed in like 2 weeks after I'd been struggling for months.

Has anyone else noticed that EDD seems to have these mass payment stoppages every few months? It's like they're doing system updates and screwing everyone over in the process. 🤔

Omg yes! It happened to me in February. Took weeks to sort out.

I swear they do it on purpose to reduce their workload or save money or something. It's sus af.

Their systems need serious updating to prevent these mass disruptions.

Hey there! It's definitely frustrating dealing with EDD issues. One tool you might consider using is Claimyr. Claimyr offers a service to connect you directly with a live EDD agent, which can be a massive time-saver, especially if you've been struggling to get through. It's legitimate and can be highly effective, as shared by some users here. However, it does come with a $20 fee, which may not sit well with everyone, especially those already in financial distress. But many have found it valuable when payments are delayed for weeks. On the flip side, remember that while such tools can be a quick fix, they don't solve the underlying issues within EDD's infrastructure or communication practices. It's crucial to continue advocating for better systems and transparency at state levels. Meanwhile, documenting your interactions with EDD, as others advised, and reaching out to local representatives can offer additional layers of support. The pursuit can be exhausting, but having multiple strategies in place may help you navigate this tricky situation while also seeking employment opportunities. Best of luck, and hopefully, you receive the resolution you need soon!

Did you certify for benefits every two weeks? Sometimes people forget and that can cause a pause in payments.

KhalilStar

Yep, I've been certifying religiously. Never missed a week. That's why I'm so confused about whats going on.

Even if you certify, sometimes the system glitches. EDD's tech is from the stone age, I swear.

Here's what you need to do when you get on the phone with them: 1. Stay calm and be polite. The person on the other end isn't personally responsible for your issue. 2. Clearly explain that your payments stopped in May without any explanation. 3. Ask if there are any pending issues or flags on your account that might be causing the delay. 4. Inquire if they need any additional documents or information from you to resume payments. 5. Request a clear timeline for when you can expect your next payment. 6. Get the name and ID number of the representative you speak with, and take notes during the call. 7. If they can't resolve it immediately, ask for a follow-up date and how you can check on the status. Remember, persistence is key with EDD. Don't be afraid to call multiple times if you don't get a satisfactory answer. Good luck!

Wow, thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely use this when I call. Fingers crossed I can get through to someone soon.

This is solid advice. I'd add: ask them to notate your account with the details of your call. It helps if you need to follow up later.

And make sure to ask them to send any documents they need by email for quicker processing!

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. 🙄 I swear they just randomly decide to mess with people's lives for fun. Have you checked your online account for any updates or messages?

-

KhalilStar

Yeah, I've been checking my account like a hawk. Nothing there either. It's like they just forgot about me or something.

Same boat here. My payments stopped in April with zero explanation. EDD's communication is a joke.

I've read some people had luck finding updates in the 'Correspondence' tab even if there's no alert. Worth a shot?

I had a similar issue. Turns out there was an identity verification problem that they never notified me about. Definitely ask about that when you call.

Same happened to me. Once I cleared it up, payments resumed.

Have you checked if your benefit year ended? Sometimes that can cause a gap in payments while they review your claim.

-

KhalilStar

I'm not sure... How do I check that?

Log into your UI Online account. It should show your benefit year end date on the homepage.

If it's that, you might need to file a new claim. It's annoying but necessary.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Totally legit. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. It worked like a charm. Got through in about 2 hours.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken.

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. I was losing way more than $20 each week my payments were delayed.

I used Claimyr once too and it was a lifesaver during a hectic time. But yeah, it does feel like a band-aid for a bigger issue.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try looking for a job instead of relying on unemployment? The economy is picking up.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am actively job searching. These benefits are a lifeline while I look for work.

PSA: If anyone's having trouble with their claim, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online message. It'll save your butt if you need to appeal or prove you've been trying to resolve issues.

This saved me a couple of times. EDD can lose track of things easily.
