EDD Callback Nightmare: Will They Actually Call Back or Am I Wasting My Time?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with EDD. I called them but can't get through. They said they'd call me back but I'm not sure if they will. Anyone else dealing with this? What should I do?

Welcome to the club, buddy. EDD's phone system is a nightmare. I've been trying to get through for weeks. It's like they're playing hide and seek with us 🙄

•Weeks? Try months! I've been calling since January and still nothing. It's ridiculous how they expect us to survive without any help or information.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

•Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure its legit?

•100% legit. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. It worked like a charm. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! The system is so broken 😡

•I get it, but for me, it was worth every penny. Beats wasting hours redialing and getting nowhere.

Pro tip: Try calling right when they open. I've had better luck getting through early in the morning. Also, Wednesdays seem to be less busy for some reason.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite EDD issues. It's worth a shot!

•This! 👆 My assemblyman's office was super helpful. They got my claim sorted in like a week after months of nothing.

•I didn't even know this was an option. How do I find my assembly member?

•Just google 'Find my California assembly member' and enter your address. They usually have a form on their website for EDD help.

Ugh, EDD is the worst. I swear they change their system every other day just to confuse us. Anyone else notice that the website was down again last night? 🤦♂️

•Yep, it's always "scheduled maintenance" at the most inconvenient times. I'm convinced they do it on purpose to reduce claims lol

Here's what I've learned after dealing with EDD for way too long: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. 2. Be persistent. Keep calling, even if it feels hopeless. 3. Use their online portal as much as possible. Sometimes it's faster than calling. 4. If you get a helpful agent, ask for their employee ID or name. It can be useful if you need to reference the call later. 5. Don't be afraid to file an appeal if you're denied. Many people win on appeal. 6. Join Facebook groups for EDD claimants. There's a lot of good info shared there. 7. Stay calm and be polite, even when it's frustrating. The agents are more likely to go the extra mile if you're nice. Hang in there, everyone. This system sucks, but we're all in this together. 💪

•This is gold! 💯 Wish I had known all this when I first started dealing with EDD. Saving this for future reference.

•Great advice! I'd add: check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important EDD emails end up there.

Anyone else feel like we need to start a support group for EDD survivors? 😅 This whole process is traumatizing!

Has anyone tried the new chatbot on the EDD website? Is it actually helpful or just another way to avoid talking to real people?

•It's about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Just spits out generic answers and tells you to call the number we can't get through on 🙄

I heard a rumor that EDD is hiring more staff to handle calls. Anyone know if that's true or just wishful thinking?

I'm in the exact same situation! Been waiting for a callback for over two weeks now. What I've learned is that their callback system is pretty unreliable - sometimes they call, sometimes they don't. My advice would be to keep trying multiple approaches: continue calling early morning (7:30-8am seems to work better), try the assembly member route that others mentioned, and maybe consider that paid service if you're really desperate. Also, make sure your phone can receive calls from unknown numbers - I almost missed my callback because it was blocked! Don't give up though, eventually something will work. This whole system is broken but we have to keep pushing through it.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! Two weeks is brutal - I'm only on day 3 of waiting and already going crazy. I'll definitely try calling early morning like you suggested. Quick question though - when they did call you back, did they actually resolve your issue or did you have to go through more hoops? I'm worried even if I get the callback it'll just lead to more waiting and transfers.

•@Dylan Mitchell Good question! When they finally called me back, it was actually pretty helpful - the agent was able to resolve my pending payment issue in about 20 minutes. BUT and (this is a big but I) got lucky with a knowledgeable rep. I ve'heard from others who got callbacks only to be transferred around again or told to submit more documents. It s'really hit or miss depending on who you get. My advice is to have all your documents ready and write down exactly what you need help with before they call, so you can be super clear and efficient. Also don t'be afraid to ask to speak to a supervisor if the first person can t'help - sometimes the tier 2 agents have more power to actually fix things.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who finally got through after months of trying! The callback system is hit or miss - I waited 3 weeks for one callback that never came, but then got another one within 2 days. Here's what worked for me: I called at exactly 8:01 AM on a Tuesday (avoid Mondays at all costs), and when I couldn't get through, I immediately requested a callback AND also tried the "2-1-1" trick someone mentioned in another thread. Also, double-check that your voicemail isn't full - apparently that's a common reason callbacks fail. Don't lose hope @Aiden Chen, it's frustrating but persistence really does pay off eventually. Keep documenting everything and maybe try that assembly member route too - can't hurt to have multiple irons in the fire! 🤞

•Thanks @Jean Claude for the detailed breakdown! The 8:01 AM Tuesday tip is super helpful - I ve'been calling randomly throughout the day which is probably why I m'not getting anywhere. Quick question about the 2-1-1 "trick" you mentioned - what exactly is that? I haven t'heard of it before. Also really good point about checking voicemail space, mine is definitely getting full with all the robocalls I ve'been getting lately 😅 Going to try your approach tomorrow morning and see if I have better luck!

I'm dealing with the exact same frustration right now! Been waiting for a callback for over a week and starting to lose hope. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both comforting (knowing I'm not alone) and terrifying (seeing how long some of you have been waiting). I'm definitely going to try that 8:01 AM Tuesday strategy @Jean Claude mentioned, and the assembly member route sounds promising too. Has anyone had success with emailing EDD directly or is that just another black hole? Also wondering if there are specific days of the week that are better/worse for callbacks - seems like there might be a pattern based on what everyone's sharing. Thanks for all the tips and solidarity, this community is literally keeping me sane through this nightmare! 🙏

•@Paolo Romano I feel your pain! I ve'been in the same boat for about 2 weeks now. From what I m'seeing here, emailing EDD directly is pretty much useless - most people say they never get responses or just get generic automated replies. The assembly member route seems to be the real game changer though. I m'planning to contact mine tomorrow after reading @Zane Hernandez s success'story. Also noticed from everyone s posts'that Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to be the sweet spot for calling, and definitely avoid Mondays and Fridays. The early morning thing seems legit too - multiple people mentioned 7:30-8:01 AM. Hang in there, we got this! At least we re all'suffering together 😅

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Just requested a callback yesterday and already feeling anxious about whether they'll actually follow through. Reading everyone's experiences here is both helpful and scary - some waited weeks or months! I'm definitely going to try calling at 8:01 AM on Tuesday like @Jean Claude suggested, and the assembly member option sounds like a solid backup plan. One thing I'm curious about - for those who did get callbacks, how long did the actual call last? I want to make sure I block out enough time and have all my documents ready. Also thinking about trying that claimyr.com service @Grace Johnson mentioned if I get desperate enough. $20 is steep but honestly my sanity is worth more at this point! Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, at least we know we're not alone in this mess 💪

•@Keisha Johnson I m'right there with you! Just went through this whole process myself and can share some insights. When I finally got my callback, the actual call lasted about 45 minutes - the agent was really thorough and helped resolve my pending payment issue completely. Make sure you have your ID, Social Security card, and any correspondence from EDD ready to go. Also write down your questions beforehand because you ll'probably be nervous when they call! The $20 service Grace mentioned is tempting but I d'try the free options first - the assembly member route really seems to work based on what everyone s'saying here. One tip I learned the hard way: answer ANY unknown number during business hours for the next few weeks, even if it looks like spam. EDD callbacks can come from weird numbers and you don t'want to miss it! Stay strong, we ll'all get through this eventually 🤞

Same exact situation here! I requested a callback three days ago and haven't heard anything yet. The waiting is driving me crazy because I have bills due and really need to get this sorted out. Based on what everyone's sharing, it sounds like the callback system is pretty unreliable - some people get called back in a few days, others wait weeks or never hear back at all. I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy (8:01 AM on Tuesday seems to be the magic time based on multiple success stories here) and also look into contacting my assembly member as a backup plan. It's frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops just to talk to someone about our own benefits, but at least this thread shows there are multiple approaches that can work. Thanks @Aiden Chen for starting this discussion - it's really helpful to know we're not alone in dealing with this broken system! 🙏

•@Isaiah Thompson I totally feel you on the bill stress - that s'exactly what pushed me to finally try everything possible to get through! Three days is still pretty early in the callback game from what I m'seeing here. I ve'been documenting everyone s'tips and it seems like the 8:01 AM Tuesday strategy really is the golden ticket based on multiple success stories. Also definitely worth setting up that assembly member contact ASAP since that seems to be the most reliable backup plan. One thing I learned from reading all these responses - make sure your phone settings allow calls from unknown numbers and keep your voicemail from getting full. Some people here missed their callbacks because of these issues! The whole system is absolutely ridiculous but at least we have this community sharing strategies. Hang in there, sounds like persistence really does pay off eventually! 💪
