PFL claim denied after having baby - no reason given! Help!
I just had my PFL claim denied after having a baby and they didn't even give me a reason! Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do next. Any advice on how to handle this or who to contact would be really appreciated.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! I had a similar experience last year. Here's what I did: 1. Call them ASAP and ask for a detailed explanation of the denial. 2. Request a copy of your claim file - you have a right to see it. 3. Check if there were any errors in your application or missing documents. 4. If you disagree with their decision, file an appeal immediately. 5. Consider getting help from a workers' rights organization or an attorney specializing in employment law. Don't give up! The system is a mess, but keep pushing. Good luck!

β’This is great advice! I'd also add: keep a log of all your calls and who you speak to. It helped me when I had to escalate my case.

β’totally agree with getting everything in writing. these ppl will say anything on the phone and then deny it later π

β’Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely follow these steps. Did you end up needing a lawyer for your case?

β’Nah, I didn't need a lawyer in the end. Just had to be super persistent and provide some additional medical documentation. But don't rule it out if things get complicated!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

β’Sounds sketchy af. Is this legit?

β’Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

β’How long did it take to get through? I've been trying to reach someone for weeks!

β’It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent picked up.

smh the whole system is broken. i swear they deny claims hoping people will just give up and not appeal π€¬

Have you checked if your employer filed the correct info? Sometimes they mess up and it causes denials. Might be worth double-checking with HR.

β’I hadn't even thought of that! I'll definitely reach out to HR tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

β’This! Also, Wednesdays seem to be less busy for some reason. At least in my experience.

β’6 weeks?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your local rep? Sometimes they can help speed things up.

Anyone else notice that the PFL website is always "under maintenance" when you need it most? π Like, get it together already!

Hey OP, what was the exact wording on your denial letter? Sometimes there are clues in the bureaucratic language they use.

β’That's the thing - I didn't even get a letter! Just a notification on the online portal that my claim was denied. No explanation at all.

β’Wow, that's even worse. Definitely push for a written explanation. They're required to provide one by law.
