SDI Postpartum Disability Claim Disqualified - No Explanation Given. Help!

I'm so frustrated right now. My postpartum disability claim got disqualified and I have no clue why. I filed it after having my baby, but now I'm stuck in limbo. Has anyone else dealt with this? What could be the reason for disqualification? I really need this support and don't know what to do next.

Ugh, that sucks! The whole system is a mess. When did you file your claim? Sometimes timing can be an issue. Also, what was your job before filing? Some employers have weird rules about eligibility.

I filed about 6 weeks ago, right after my baby was born. I was working as a teacher before going on leave. I thought I did everything right!

Hmm, that's odd. Teachers usually don't have issues with this. Did you get any letter explaining the disqualification? Sometimes they send those out with more details.

No letter yet 😩 Just saw the status change online. I'm gonna try calling them tomorrow to figure out what's going on.

I've been there, it's so frustrating! Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your paperwork. Make sure you didn't miss any signatures or dates. 2. Call the SDI office ASAP. Be prepared to wait on hold for hours. 3. If you can't get through, try contacting your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help push things through. 4. Get a letter from your doctor confirming your postpartum status and inability to work. 5. Don't give up! Keep calling and pushing until you get answers. Remember, the system is overloaded right now, so persistence is key. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Fingers crossed I can get some answers soon.

This is solid advice 💯 I'd add one more thing: keep a log of all your calls and who you talk to. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

Have you checked if your employer reported your wages correctly? Sometimes that can cause issues with claims. Might be worth asking HR if everything was submitted properly on their end.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that! I'll definitely reach out to HR tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate after waiting on hold for hours multiple days. The $20 was worth it to finally get answers. They even have a money-back guarantee if you don't get through.

How long did you have to wait with this service?

It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to actively wait on hold. The service called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than wasting a whole day listening to hold music!

OP, make sure you're calling the right department! I once spent weeks trying to resolve an issue because I kept getting transferred to the wrong place. SDI and unemployment are separate, even though they're both EDD.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in there system and my claim got flagged by mistake. Keep pushing and don't take no for an answer!

Oh wow, that's good to know. How long did it take you to get it resolved?

It took about 3 weeks of constant calling and escalating. But I finally got it sorted and even got backpay. Don't loose hope!

have u tried turning it off and on again? 🤣 jk jk... but seriously, sometimes logging out and back in to ur account can refresh the status. worth a shot!

I'm in the same boat, girl. These government systems are a joke. We're just trying to take care of our babies and they make it so hard. Sending you strength! 💪👶

Thank you! It's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle. Wishing you luck with your claim too!

I went through something similar last year! A few things that might help: 1. Check if you filed within the right timeframe - SDI has strict deadlines after childbirth 2. Make sure your doctor's certification was complete and properly filled out 3. Verify that you had enough wages reported in your base period (they look at specific quarters) 4. Sometimes it's as simple as a missing signature or date on the forms Also, try calling first thing in the morning (8 AM sharp) - I had better luck getting through then. The SDI number is different from regular unemployment, so make sure you're calling 1-800-480-3287 specifically for disability claims. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but you deserve those benefits, especially as a new mom. Keep us posted on how it goes!
