PFL Bonding Claim denied - what evidence of relationship worked for you?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my PFL Bonding Claim. I submitted all the paperwork after my baby was born, but I just got a denial notice. Has anyone else dealt with this? What evidence did you use to prove your relationship with your child? I thought the hospital certificate would be enough, but now I'm not sure. Any advice would be appreciated!

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉 Sorry to hear about the denial though. When I filed my PFL claim, I submitted both the hospital certificate and the birth certificate. Did you include both? Sometimes they want to see multiple forms of proof.

•Thanks! I only submitted the hospital certificate. I didn't realize I needed both. How long did it take you to get the birth certificate?

•It took about 2 weeks to get the birth certificate for us. You might want to call and ask if you can submit additional documentation to support your claim. Don't give up!

•That's good to know. I'll definitely try to get the birth certificate ASAP. Fingers crossed they'll let me submit it late! 🤞

Ugh, the PFL system is such a nightmare. I swear they make it complicated on purpose 🙄 Have you tried calling them to ask why it was denied? Sometimes you can get more info that way.

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. It's the only way I've ever gotten through lol

Here's what worked for me with my PFL Bonding Claim: 1. Hospital certificate 2. Birth certificate 3. A signed letter from my employer confirming my leave dates 4. Copies of recent pay stubs 5. A personal statement explaining the bonding activities It seems like overkill, but I didn't want to risk a denial. Hope this helps!

•Wow, thank you so much for the detailed list! I definitely didn't submit all of that. I'll start gathering everything now.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😤

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get some answers. Time is money, especially with a newborn!

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they post more detailed info about denials there. Also, double-check that you didn't miss any deadlines. They're super strict about those.

Quick question - did you make sure to sign every single page of the claim form? I got denied once because I missed a signature on page 3. Resubmitted with all signatures and it went through.

•Oh no, I didn't even think to check that. I'll have to look at my copy. Thanks for the tip!

Not to be that person, but have you considered getting a lawyer? Sometimes just having a legal letterhead on your appeal can make them take it more seriously.

•This! 👆 My cousin had to do this and suddenly all her "missing" documents were "found". The system is rigged I swear

I went through this exact same situation last year! My initial claim was denied even though I thought I had everything. Here's what I learned: 1) Always submit both hospital certificate AND official birth certificate, 2) Include a cover letter explaining your relationship to the child, and 3) Make copies of EVERYTHING before sending. I had to appeal but it was approved the second time around. Don't give up - you're entitled to this benefit! Also, try calling at exactly 8:00 AM when they open, that's when I finally got through to speak with someone who actually helped.
