How to update EDD claim from SDI to PFL for baby bonding? Worried about benefit disruption
Hey everyone, I just had my baby and I need to update my claim for baby bonding. Does anyone know what I need to do or submit? I'm worried about a possible disruption in benefits. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Congrats on your new baby! š Here's what you need to do: ⢠Call EDD and inform them about your baby's birth ⢠Request a transition from SDI to Paid Family Leave (PFL) for bonding ⢠You'll likely need to submit proof of birth (usually a birth certificate) ⢠There might be a short gap between benefits, but it shouldn't be too long Make sure to call ASAP to minimize any disruption. Good luck and enjoy your little one!

ā¢This is great advice! I went thru the same thing last year. Just wanna add that it took about 2 weeks for my PFL to kick in after SDI ended. Plan accordingly!

ā¢Quick question - do you know if adoptive parents can do this too? Or is it just for birth parents?

ā¢@profile 3 Yep, adoptive parents can totally do this too! PFL covers bonding time for adoptive and foster parents as well. Same process, just different documentation.

ā¢Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins on hold that way!

Hey, I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video for more info: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you call. They'll ask for dates, claim numbers, etc. Be prepared!
