UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning! Turns out there was an issue with my identity verification that was holding everything up, even though I verified my identity when I first applied for disability. The agent pushed my claim through manually and said I should receive payment within 24-48 hours for all the weeks I've been waiting. Such a relief! Thank you everyone for your advice and support during this stressful time.
So glad to see your update! This is exactly why I always recommend people call EDD if they're stuck - so many times there's just one little thing holding up the whole claim that they can fix in minutes. Identity verification issues are super common even when you think everything was already verified from your DI claim. Congrats on getting it sorted and enjoy those precious weeks with your little one! 💕
You mentioned the claim is from March 2025 and still pending after 3 weeks - that's definitely excessive. Normal processing time is 7-10 days max unless there's an issue. Since you're approaching the end of your 12-month window, I'd make contacting EDD your absolute top priority. If you can't get through on the phone after several attempts, consider visiting an EDD office in person. Just bring all your claim paperwork and ID.
Update: I FINALLY got through to EDD this morning after trying for days! You were all right - there was an employer verification issue. My wife's HR didn't respond to EDD's request. The agent pushed it through manually and confirmed we have exactly 11 days remaining. They're releasing the payment for the March claim today. Thanks everyone for your help!
So relieved to see your update! This is exactly why I always tell people to call EDD when claims are pending too long - there's usually something specific holding it up that only they can see and fix. Employer verification issues are incredibly common, especially with intermittent claims where HR has to respond multiple times throughout the year. Many employers just don't prioritize these requests or understand the tight deadlines. Glad you got your 11 days confirmed and the March payment released! That's cutting it close to your 12-month deadline but at least now you know exactly where you stand.
I'm in the same boat, waiting for my payment too. This thread is giving me anxiety lol. Fingers crossed we all get our money soon! 🤞
I went through this exact same situation last month! Here's what worked for me: First, log into your EDD account online and check if there are any pending issues or requests for additional documentation. Sometimes they flag claims for review and you won't know unless you check. Second, if everything looks good on your end, try calling first thing in the morning (8am sharp) - I actually got through after about 45 minutes. The rep was able to tell me my payment was just stuck in processing and she expedited it. Got my money 3 days later! Don't give up - you'll get through this! 💪
btw dont forget u get 8 weeks of bonding time! alot of ppl think its just 6 weeks but its 8 weeks for 2025 claims. my sister thought she only got 6 and missed out on 2 extra weeks of paid time!
Oh that's so good to know! I was actually thinking it was 6 weeks. So I'll get 8 weeks of disability for the C-section and then 8 weeks of baby bonding PFL? That's amazing!
Just wanted to add my experience from last month - I applied exactly 5 days before my disability ended (online through SDI) and it worked perfectly! No payment gap at all. One tip that really helped me: when filling out the PFL application, make sure you upload a clear photo of your baby's birth certificate right away. I've seen people get delayed because they waited for EDD to request it later. Also, keep checking your claim status daily after applying - if there are any issues, you'll see them there first before getting any mail notifications. The peace of mind of having continuous payments with a newborn is so worth getting the timing right!
Thank you for sharing your recent experience! That's really reassuring to hear it worked smoothly for you. I definitely will upload the birth certificate right away when I apply - that's a great tip I hadn't thought of. Quick question: did you need to wait for your baby's official birth certificate from the county, or did the hospital discharge paperwork work for the upload?

I'm in the same boat, buddy. Been trying to sort out my claim for weeks. This whole system is a joke. Good luck!

I went through something similar a few months ago. What really helped me was requesting a "claim reconsideration" through their online portal. You can upload additional documentation there, and it seems to move faster than phone calls. Also, make sure you have your doctor's original note stating the exact dates you were unable to work - sometimes they only process partial information from medical providers. The key is being very specific about the dates and having all your paperwork in order. It took about 3-4 weeks, but I eventually got the full amount I was owed retroactively.
