Need to find EDD office near Long Beach for delayed PFL benefits - rent due soon!

Hey everyone, I'm at my wit's end trying to help my husband with his PFL baby bonding claim. We filed everything 24 days ago and haven't received ANY update or payment. Our rent is due in 5 days ($2250) plus utilities and we're seriously stressing out. We've been calling the EDD number 20+ times daily but either get disconnected or told the wait time is 3+ hours!!! We're planning to just go to an actual EDD office tomorrow since we're desperate. Does anyone know which office around Long Beach/LA area handles PFL claims in person? Google is showing me like 5 different locations and we don't want to waste time going to the wrong one. Has anyone successfully resolved PFL delays by going in person? Thank you so much!!

I tried going to the EDD office in Torrance when my maternity leave transition to baby bonding got messed up, but they told me PFL claims can only be handled over the phone not in person. Super frustrating! They just gave me the same phone number I'd been calling for weeks.

Ughhh that's exactly what I was afraid of! Did you ever get through on the phone? We're seriously about to be late on rent for the first time.

Unfortunately, EDD offices don't process PFL claims in person - they're all handled through the central processing center. The local offices will just direct you to call the same number you've been trying. I went through this last year with my baby bonding claim. Instead of wasting time visiting an office, try calling right when they open at 8:00am. Also make sure you've checked your online account for any pending documentation they might be waiting for - that's what held up my claim for weeks.

Thanks for the advice. We've checked his online account daily and there's nothing showing as missing or needed. It just says "claim processing" with no other details. We've tried calling right at 8am too but still can't get through. It's incredibly stressful.

I had luck with claimyr.com to get through to an EDD rep for my delayed baby bonding claim. It cost money but totally worth it since I was about to miss my car payment. They connected me to an actual EDD agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 The rep I talked to was able to see that they needed one more form from my husband's employer that wasn't showing up in my online portal. Got it fixed and had my money within 3 days.

It's definitely legit - they just automate the calling process so you don't have to keep redialing yourself. After trying for 2 weeks to get through on my own, the $20-something was worth it to get my $1400 PFL payment processed. They don't touch your benefits or anything, just connect the call.

Thanks for suggesting this! At this point we're desperate enough to try anything. If it gets my husband's claim moving before rent is due, it would be totally worth it.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!! I went thru this EXACT SAME THING in April with my PFL claim and ended up having to BORROW MONEY from my parents to pay rent while waiting FIVE WEEKS for my baby bonding benefits!!!! EDD doesnt care that people have bills to pay and babies to feed!!! They claim to support families but then leave us hanging with NO INCOME for weeks on end!!!!

This happened to me too. The trick I found was asking for a supervisor when you finally get through. Regular agents sometimes don't have authority to push claims through, but supervisors can expedite when there's financial hardship. Make sure to specifically mention the rent due date and that you're at risk of eviction - that can flag your case for priority processing.

When I filed my PFL last spring after my disability ran out, they needed my doctor to submit another form even though it showed everything was complete online. Defintely try calling at 8:01 am exactly. Thats when I got thru. btw did you file online or with paper forms? The paper forms take waaaay longer to process.

We filed online and uploaded all the documents they asked for. His employer already confirmed they submitted their portion too. It's so frustrating that there's no transparency about what's actually happening with the claim!

Here's what you need to do: check if your husband's claim is properly designated as baby bonding PFL rather than disability (SDI). Sometimes claims get miscategorized when transitioning from pregnancy disability to baby bonding, especially for fathers. Also, verify that your husband's employer completed their portion correctly. The online system doesn't always show if the employer information is incomplete or inconsistent with the claim details. When you do reach an agent (either through persistent calling or using a service), specifically ask: 1. Is the claim coded correctly as PFL? 2. Is there any identity verification pending? 3. Has the employer information been properly received and processed? 4. Is there a specific document missing that isn't showing in the online portal? In my experience working with many PFL claims, these four questions often uncover the actual hold-up that isn't visible to claimants online.

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! We'll definitely ask these specific questions once we get through to someone. It's our first baby and navigating all this bureaucracy while sleep-deprived has been a nightmare.

Yes, his employer confirmed they submitted everything over 3 weeks ago. That was the first thing we checked! There's apparently no reason for the delay that anyone can tell us because we can't even talk to a human being at EDD.

I just wanted to follow up - were you able to get through to EDD? If your rent is due very soon and you're still waiting, you might want to consider asking your landlord for a short extension and explaining the situation. Many landlords would rather give you a few extra days than deal with finding new tenants, especially if you can show documentation of the pending PFL claim. Also, if you're able to make a partial payment, that often goes a long way toward goodwill while you wait for the full benefit to arrive.

We finally got through using that Claimyr service someone suggested! Turns out there was an issue with my husband's ID verification that wasn't showing up online at all. The agent was able to verify his identity over the phone and said the payment should process in 3-5 business days. Our landlord agreed to give us until the 10th without a late fee. Fingers crossed the money arrives in time!
