EDD issued PFL payments for my husband but no debit card or checks received - what next?
I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's happening with my husband's PFL claim. He's been approved for baby bonding leave after our daughter was born 6 weeks ago, and when I check his EDD account online it clearly shows 'payments issued' for the past 3 weeks. But we haven't received ANYTHING - no debit card, no paper checks, nothing at all in the mail! I've tried calling EDD every day this week but keep getting disconnected after waiting forever. Has anyone else experienced this? Did your payments eventually show up? Is there another number I should be calling? We're really counting on this money and our savings is getting dangerously low.

This exact thing happened to us in April! The online account showed payments issued for almost a month before we got anything. Turns out they sent the BofA debit card to our old address even though we updated everything in the system. When I FINALLY got through to someone at EDD, they told me they don't handle the debit cards - you have to call Bank of America EDD card services directly at 1-866-692-9374 to get a replacement card. That fixed it for us, but took another 10 days. Hope this helps!

•Thank you!!! We did move last year but I thought we updated everything. I'll try calling BofA directly tomorrow morning. Did you have to start a completely new card or was the old one just lost in the mail?

sometimes the payment issue date is different than when they actually send the money i think edd is just really behind right now cause my sister had the same problem last month

•This. EDD is always behind on everything. My payment said issued for like 2 weeks before I actually got it.

There are a few things that could be happening here: 1. First-time payments come on a BofA debit card that's mailed separately from any EDD correspondence - this can take 7-10 business days after the first payment is issued. 2. If this isn't your first EDD claim, they would load funds to your existing card - did your husband previously have an SDI or UI claim with a card? 3. You might have selected paper checks during the application process (there's an option for this). 4. There could be an address issue as someone mentioned. I recommend two things: First, check your husband's account settings in the EDD portal to verify what payment method was selected. Second, you need to speak with someone at EDD directly. Regular phone attempts rarely work these days. I had to use a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when I had a similar issue - they connected me to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Hope you get this sorted quickly!

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! We definitely selected the debit card option (not checks), and this is our first ever EDD claim. I'll check that service out - at this point I'd do anything to talk to an actual person at EDD. 25 minutes sounds a lot better than my experience so far.

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! I was missing payments for almost 3 WEEKS while the website said "issued"!! EDD is COMPLETELY BROKEN. I finally got mad enough to drive to an actual EDD office (had to take time off work and everything) and they told me there was a "payment processing delay" affecting thousands of claims but wouldn't give me any more details or timeline. Of course this doesn't help with bills that are due RIGHT NOW. The whole system is a joke and they don't care at all about families struggling.

•Ugh, that sounds awful! Did you eventually get the money? I'm wondering if I should try going to an office in person too, but it's hard with a newborn.

•Yeah I got it eventually but it was almost a month after the first "issued" date. And honestly going to the office barely helped - they basically just confirmed what I already knew and told me to wait longer. With a newborn I wouldn't bother making the trip.

This happens quite frequently with EDD PFL payments, especially for baby bonding claims. Here's what you need to know: - The Bank of America EDD debit cards are processed and mailed separately from EDD, usually 5-10 business days after the first payment is issued in their system. - The payment status "issued" means the funds have been approved, but doesn't necessarily mean they've been transferred to BofA or that checks have been printed yet. - For first-time claims (which it sounds like this is), there's often an additional verification delay for fraud prevention. - Sometimes there's a glitch in the communication between EDD and BofA that causes delays. If it's been more than 10 business days since the first payment was marked "issued," you should: 1. Call Bank of America's EDD card department directly: 1-866-692-9374 2. If BofA has no record of a card being issued, then you need to contact EDD 3. Double-check your mailing address is correct in both systems In my experience with PFL baby bonding claims, I've rarely seen the first payment arrive in less than 2 weeks after showing as "issued" online, even when everything is working perfectly. The system is unfortunately very slow.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation. It's been exactly 10 business days since the first payment was marked as issued, so I'll call BofA tomorrow morning and see if they have any information. It's frustrating that there's this extra delay that nobody tells you about when you apply!

Have you checked if you selected direct deposit or debit card when applying? My husband forgot he signed up for direct deposit and was waiting for a card that was never coming! Check the bank account you listed on the original application.

•I wish that was the case! We definitely selected the debit card option, and I've checked all our accounts just to be sure nothing was deposited. Unfortunately, I think we're just stuck in some EDD limbo right now.

•Yes, I've tried that number too. I either get disconnected or sit on hold until I have to hang up for baby duties. I'll keep trying though!

I used Claimyr last month when I had almost the same issue with my maternity leave transitioning to baby bonding PFL. Was getting so frustrated with the constant disconnects! The service got me connected to an EDD rep in about 15 minutes instead of me wasting hours redialing. Definitely worth checking out their site (claimyr.com). They have a demo video too: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 The rep I talked to was able to see exactly what was happening with my payments and fixed it during that call. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person to get these things sorted out.

•Thanks for the recommendation! Someone else mentioned them too. I think I'm going to try them tomorrow - at this point I just need to get this resolved. 15 minutes sounds amazing compared to what I've been dealing with.

•That's somewhat reassuring to hear - thanks. I just wish they would explain these delays somewhere in the paperwork or on the website!

Update: I tried Claimyr this morning and got through to EDD in about 20 minutes! The rep told me there was a flag on our account because we moved last year. Even though we updated our address with DMV and for tax purposes, apparently that doesn't automatically update in all EDD systems. They had tried to mail the debit card to our old address twice and it was returned both times. She removed the flag and ordered a new card that should arrive in 7-10 days. Just posting this in case it helps someone else with a similar issue - definitely call EDD if your online account shows payments issued but nothing has arrived after 10+ business days!

•This is exactly why speaking with an actual representative is so important! The online system doesn't show these kinds of flags or issues. Glad you got it sorted out and thanks for posting the update - this will definitely help others in similar situations.

•Great news! Address issues are one of the most common problems with PFL payments. For anyone else reading this in the future - always update your address directly with EDD even if you've updated it elsewhere in government systems. They don't automatically sync information between departments.

So glad you got this resolved! I went through something similar with my PFL claim a few months ago - the address mismatch issue is way more common than it should be. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't make it clearer that you need to update your address directly in their system, not just with other agencies. Thanks for sharing the Claimyr recommendation too - I'll definitely keep that in mind if I run into issues with future claims. Hope your card arrives quickly and you can finally get caught up on expenses!

•This whole thread has been so helpful! I'm actually dealing with a similar situation right now with my own PFL claim - payments showing as issued for over a week but nothing received yet. Reading through everyone's experiences, it sounds like this is unfortunately pretty normal with EDD. I'm going to try calling Bank of America first to see if there's a card issue, and if that doesn't work I'll definitely look into using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD representative. It's really frustrating that such an important benefit system has so many communication gaps and delays, especially when new parents are already dealing with so much stress and financial pressure. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and solutions!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress with a newborn! I had almost the exact same issue when my son was born last year. After seeing "payments issued" for 2+ weeks with nothing arriving, I discovered that EDD had an old phone number on file that was preventing them from sending verification texts for the debit card activation. Even though I had updated everything else, their phone system wasn't synced. When I finally got through to a rep, they updated the phone number and expedited a new card. The whole process took about 3 weeks total from first "issued" payment to actually receiving money. Definitely try the Bank of America number first (1-866-692-9374) - they can tell you immediately if a card was even issued to your address. If not, then you know it's an EDD internal issue that needs a representative to fix. Hang in there - you'll get your money eventually!

•Thank you for sharing your experience! The phone number issue is something I hadn't even thought to check. It's crazy how many different things can go wrong with these systems - address mismatches, phone number issues, card processing delays. I really appreciate everyone in this thread sharing their stories because it helps me understand this isn't just happening to us. I'm definitely going to call Bank of America first thing tomorrow morning to see if they have any record of a card being issued. If not, I'll try to get through to EDD directly. It's reassuring to know that even though it takes forever, people do eventually get their payments!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! My wife just gave birth 3 weeks ago and her PFL payments have been showing "issued" for over 10 days but we haven't received anything either. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful - it sounds like this is unfortunately a common issue with EDD's system. I'm going to try calling Bank of America's EDD card line tomorrow morning first, and if that doesn't work I'll look into using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD representative. It's so frustrating that they don't explain these potential delays anywhere in the application process. When you're already stressed with a new baby and counting on that income, the last thing you need is to be playing detective trying to figure out where your approved payments went! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions - this thread is going to help so many people in similar situations.
