EDD PFL baby bonding claim stuck in 'pending processing' since Jan 2025 - husband back at work with no payments!
My husband filed for baby bonding PFL on January 2, 2025 and STILL hasn't received a single payment! It's been over 6 weeks now. He did get a letter in the mail showing his daily benefit amount ($450) and weekly amount ($1,800), but when we check online it just says 'pending processing' with no payment info showing up at all. The weird thing is the system doesn't even display the benefit amounts that were in the letter. We've called the EDD literally 20+ times and either get disconnected or stuck on hold until the office closes. He's already finished his leave and gone back to work without seeing a penny from his claim! I'm so stressed because we budgeted expecting this money and now we're dipping into savings. Has anyone else experienced this ridiculous delay? What finally worked to get your payments processed? Is there some magic phone number or email we don't know about?

Omg this same EXACT thing happened to my wife!! Her PFL claim from Dec 2024 was pending for like 7 weeks with the same situation - got the letter with amounts but online showed nothing. We finally got thru on the phone and they said something about a "flag" on her account that needed manual review but they never told her!? Try calling right when they open at 8am, that's how we finally got through. So frustrating!!!

•Thank you!! Did they at least backpay all the weeks she was waiting? I'm worried they'll try to deny some of the weeks since he's already back at work.

This is unfortunately pretty common with EDD PFL claims right now, especially for baby bonding. The discrepancy between the letter and online status typically means there's an identity verification issue or employer verification delay. Here are some steps to try: 1. Call exactly at 8:00am Pacific time when they first open (set your phone's clock to atomic time) 2. If you can't get through by phone, try sending a message through your UI Online account specifically mentioning the letter you received and request status update 3. Check if your husband's employer properly verified his leave dates - sometimes this is the holdup 4. Make sure all documentation was submitted (baby's birth certificate or proof of relationship) And yes, once approved, they WILL backpay all eligible weeks, even if he's already returned to work. The important thing is that the claim was filed within the eligible timeframe.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response! We'll try the 8am trick tomorrow. His employer did verify the leave dates (we confirmed with HR). We uploaded the birth certificate when we applied but maybe they need additional documentation? Is there a way to check if that's the issue without talking to someone?

have u tried using claimyr? it got me through to an agent in like 25 min when i was dealing with my PFL transition issues. saved me days of frustration with the phone system. theres a video demo at https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 that shows how it works. website is claimyr.com - totally worth it to actually get a human on the phone who can fix whatevers going on with your husbands claim

•No, I've never heard of Claimyr before. Checking out the video now... anything that gets us to a human at this point is worth trying!

I had a similar thing happen with my PFL after maternity disability and it turned out to be because I had a hyphenated last name and it got entered differently between systems. Stupid technical error that took 5 mins to fix once I actually reached someone. But they did backpay everything!

•This happens SO OFTEN with name inconsistencies! I've seen hyphenated names, name changes after marriage, and even Jr/Sr suffixes cause these delays. Always worth checking if there's any name variation across documents.

mine took 9 weeks to process last summer and it was because my doctor wrote the wrong code on one form!! they never bothered to tell me until i finally got someone on the phone. the system is completely broken and they don't care that we're all struggling waiting for OUR MONEY that we're entitled to. once you do get thru make sure you get the reps ID number and direct extension for followup!!!!!

•9 weeks is insane! Were you able to get them to expedite payment once you got through? I'm worried about how long it will take even after we resolve whatever the mystery issue is.

The system is showing "pending processing" because there's likely an identity verification hold. When your husband received the award letter with the benefit amounts, did he also receive ANY other notices requesting additional information? Sometimes these come separately. You should immediately check if: 1. There are any unread messages in the UI Online inbox 2. Any mail was sent requesting ID verification (they often require this for PFL claims but don't make it obvious) 3. If the employer reported different dates than what was claimed I recommend trying to call exactly at 8:00:01 AM - set an alarm and be ready to dial. Keep trying until at least 10:30am, as that's when call volume usually peaks. Also, if your husband's leave crossed from 2024 into 2025, there might be a year-end processing delay that requires manual review. This is fixable but requires speaking with a tier 2 specialist.

•This is super helpful! I just double-checked and there aren't any messages in the UI Online inbox asking for more information. We never received any other notices besides the benefit amount letter. His leave did start Dec 29, 2024 and went until Feb 15, 2025 - could that year-end thing be the issue? I'll definitely try the 8:00:01 trick!

Looking at what you described, this is almost certainly a year-end issue. Claims that span from December 2024 to January 2025 often get flagged for manual review because they cross benefit years. The good news is that these actually do get processed eventually, but they require a specialist to handle them. I used to work as an EDD specialist (not current), and these year-end claims always created backlogs. The letter with benefit amounts means the claim is valid and in the system, but the payment processing is stalled. One thing most people don't know: if you call and can't get through, try the disability insurance branch instead of PFL directly (they're the same department) and ask to be transferred. Often the DI lines have shorter waits. Definitely push for resolution NOW though, because claims can technically expire if left pending too long (though they shouldn't with active contact attempts).

•THANK YOU for the insider tip about calling the disability line instead! I never would have thought of that. We'll try both approaches in the morning. Really appreciate everyone's help - at least now we know we're not alone in this frustrating situation!

btw when u do get thru make sure u ask them to EXPEDITE the payment. they can do special processing if ur experiencing financial hardship. don't let them tell u otherwise!

•This is correct - there is a financial hardship expedite option, but you need to specifically request it and explain the situation clearly. Not all representatives will volunteer this information unless directly asked.
