Baby bonding PFL stuck in processing for 7 weeks - can't reach EDD by phone
I'm at my wits end with the EDD! Applied for baby bonding leave on January 2nd (7 weeks ago!) and my claim is STILL showing 'processing pending' online with zero updates. Called at least 30 times and can't get through to anyone. What's weird is that when I first applied, the automated system would at least confirm my claim submission date, but now it just transfers me to money network information?? No idea what that even means. My savings are dwindling fast and my employer keeps asking when I'll start getting benefits. Has anyone else experienced this ridiculous wait time for baby bonding PFL? Any tricks to actually reach a human being at EDD?

Omg me too! Applied Dec 27 for my baby bonding and STILL nothing. Mines been pending for 8 weeks. Can't reach anyone either. So frustrating!

•8 weeks?! This is insane. What are we supposed to do without income for 2 months? Have you tried going to an actual EDD office?

The same thing happened to me earlier this year. I think there's a huge backlog because of all the tech issues they've been having. My baby bonding PFL was pending for 5 weeks, then suddenly approved with backpay. Keep trying to call though - the phone system is weird right now and sometimes routes people to Money Network (that's the debit card provider) instead of claims specialists.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! At least there's hope it might resolve eventually. Did you do anything special to get it approved or did it just suddenly change?

There are a few things going on here that might explain the delay: 1. If this is a continuation claim from SDI pregnancy disability to PFL baby bonding, those transitions are taking longer in 2025 due to their system updates 2. The "Money Network information" routing happens when their system recognizes your phone number but can't find an active representative 3. Seven weeks is definitely longer than normal - even with delays, most PFL claims are processed within 2-3 weeks You need to try these troubleshooting steps: - Call right when they open at 8:00 AM - Check your UI Online account for any messages or requests for additional information - Make sure you completed the DE2508 form correctly, especially the employer information section - Verify your doctor properly submitted the medical certification

•Thank you for the detailed advice! Yes, this was a transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. I'll try calling right at 8am tomorrow and double-check my UI Online account again. Do you know if there's any specific department I should try to reach?

i had same issue last month... my baby is 3 months now and i finally got paid last week. what worked for me was calling the disability determinations division directly at 866-352-7675 instead of the main edd number. they answered on my 2nd try!

I had a similar nightmare situation with my PFL baby bonding claim last month. After weeks of calling with no success, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an EDD agent in about 15 minutes. The agent told me my claim had some kind of technical flag that was preventing processing, and they fixed it while I was on the phone. My claim was paid 3 days later with all back benefits. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - definitely worth it when you're desperate to reach someone.

•Is that service legit? Seems weird to pay someone just to call EDD for you...

•Yeah it's legit - they basically call EDD for you and when they get someone on the line, they connect you. Saved me from spending another week hitting redial.

EDD's system is completely overwhelmed right now. They had a major software update in December that's causing massive delays for PFL claims, especially baby bonding transitions from pregnancy disability. Here's what you should do: 1. Try calling 833-978-2511 (their dedicated PFL line) exactly at 8:00 AM 2. If your claim was filed on 1/2, it should be assigned to a claims examiner by now, even if it shows pending 3. Check for ANY correspondence in your UI Online account - sometimes they send information requests that don't trigger notifications 4. If your claim originated from SDI pregnancy disability, verify the end date of that claim is correct before your PFL start date 5. Contact your state representative's office if you can't resolve it by next week - they have special channels to EDD In my experience working with many PFL claimants, right now the average processing time is 4-5 weeks, so you're definitely overdue for resolution.

•Thank you for all this information! I checked UI Online again and realized there WAS a message from 3 weeks ago asking for additional employer information. I never got an email notification about it! I submitted the requested info right away. Hopefully that resolves it, but I'll try calling tomorrow at 8 AM too.

Just to give you hope, my PFL baby bonding claim was stuck for 6 weeks, then I discovered they needed additional info from my employer (which they never told me about). Once I got my HR to submit the missing wage info, my claim was processed in 2 days. Check if there's something similar holding up your claim. Also, I've found that calling on Wednesdays between 1-2pm has better luck getting through than mornings when everyone is calling.

•Thank you! I did find a message in my account asking for additional employer verification. Going to get that from HR tomorrow and hopefully that fixes it.

Glad you found the message in your account! This is extremely common with the new system - the notification emails often go to spam or don't send at all. Once you've submitted that employer verification, give it 3-5 business days and then call again if it's not processed. The PFL division is legally required to make a determination within 14 days of receiving all required documentation.

•UPDATE: It worked!! After submitting the employer verification, my claim was approved within 48 hours. Payment is being processed now. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
