Baby bonding PFL payments missing after 4 weeks - still nothing after computation notice!
Started my baby bonding leave on January 4th, 2025 and got that Notice of Computation letter showing my weekly benefit amount ($1,280) and maximum benefit ($10,240). But here's the problem - I'm now FOUR WEEKS into my leave and haven't received a single payment! The EDD website just shows my claim as "processing" with zero explanation. I've called literally 50+ times daily starting right at 8am when they open, and either get disconnected or the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I've requested email contact 5 separate times through their contact form and complete silence. Not a single response! I'm scheduled to return to work on February 18th, and at this rate I'll complete my entire baby bonding period without seeing a dime. Should I be panicking? Has anyone else had payments delayed this long after receiving the computation notice? Any advice on what I should do next?

This happened to me too earlier this year! The computation notice comes from an automated system, but your actual claim might be flagged for review by a specialist. In my case, there was an income verification issue they never bothered to tell me about. You need to check if there are any "unresolved issues" listed in your online account. Go to the claim details section and look for any flags or pending items - they sometimes hide these in the claim history tab.

•Ugh, thank you for responding! I checked my online account again and there is a tiny note under 'Additional Information Required' that wasn't there before. It says something about needing proof of relationship for baby bonding?? But I already uploaded my baby's birth certificate with my original application! This is so frustrating.

Your MONEY is STUCK in their stupid system! This happens ALL THE TIME with EDD. The computation notice means NOTHING - it's just what you COULD get IF they ever process your claim. I waited 7 weeks for my baby bonding payment after my disability ended. 7 WEEKS!! They kept saying "processing time" but really my paperwork was sitting in someone's digital inbox being ignored. The system is BROKEN!

There's actually a specific issue happening here based on your timeline. Since you started baby bonding in January 2025, you're caught in the annual benefit recalculation period. This happens every January where claims take longer to process because they're adjusting all the benefit amounts for the new year. A few things you should do immediately: 1. Check your EDD online account for any requests for additional documentation (sometimes they don't notify you) 2. Make sure you completed DE2508 specifically (not DE2501 which is for disability) 3. Look at your claim history - if it shows "Pending - Claimant Certification" it means you need to certify before payment releases 4. If none of the above, you likely need to speak with a claims specialist For what it's worth, the system typically takes 2-3 weeks for processing, but January claims can take up to 5-6 weeks due to the recalculation period. You're approaching that window now.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I did use the DE2508 form for baby bonding (I had pregnancy disability before this on DE2501). My claim status just says "Processing" with no pending certification needed. Sounds like I definitely need to talk to a specialist, but that's exactly the problem - I can't get through on the phone!

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to EDD? I was in the same boat - calling 30-40 times daily with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to a real person in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. Totally worth it for me because they found my baby bonding claim was stuck in review because my employer submitted incorrect information. The EDD rep fixed it while I was on the phone and my payment came through 3 days later.

•is that service legit? sounds kinda sketchy to me. does it actually work?

It's legitimate - they basically use an automated system to keep calling EDD until they get through, then connect you. Worked for me when I was desperate after trying for days. Just helped me skip the endless calling part.

•Thank you for suggesting this! At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. It's crazy that we need third-party services just to reach a government agency, but here we are. I'll check it out.

hey so i was in ur exact situation last month!! my baby bonding was stuck for like 3 weeks after i got that computation notice. turns out my hr department at work submitted my last day wrong on their side which conflicted with my application. check with ur employer - sometimes they mess up the reports they send to edd and it puts everything on hold but edd wont tell u whats wrong!!!

•That's a good point! I didn't even think to check with my HR. I'll send them an email right now to verify what information they submitted. That could definitely explain the hold up.

One last thing to check - if your baby bonding leave started right after pregnancy disability, sometimes there's a transition issue between the two claim types. Double check that your pregnancy disability claim shows as fully closed/completed in the system. If it's still showing any active status, that can block your PFL baby bonding payments from starting. This is a very common issue that causes exactly the delay you're describing.

•You might be onto something! I did transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. My disability claim says "Closed" but there's another status field that shows "Pending Final Review" which sounds contradictory. I bet this is the issue!

My sister just went through this whole mess with her baby bonding. She said what fixed it was speaking with a tier 2 specialist, not just the regular reps. Apparently if you do get through, you should immediately ask to be transferred to a tier 2 specialist who can actually see and fix stuck claims. The regular reps can only see basic info and just tell you to wait.

•Thank you! I had no idea there were different tiers of representatives. If I can ever get through to anyone, I'll definitely ask for a tier 2 specialist right away. Really appreciate the tip!

After reading all these comments, I'm pretty sure your issue is the transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. I had the exact same problem in 2024. The good news is that once they fix it, you'll get all your backpay in one lump sum. Make sure when you do get through to someone that you specifically mention this is a "transition claim issue between SDI and PFL for baby bonding" - using those exact terms helped me get the right assistance.

•I just used Claimyr and finally got through! You were 100% right - it was a transition issue. My pregnancy disability claim hadn't fully closed in their system even though it showed "Closed" on my end. The specialist fixed it while I was on the phone and said I should receive all back payments within 3-5 business days. Such a relief! Thank you everyone for your help!
