EDD PFL payment didn't arrive - can't reach anyone to fix my missing baby bonding check
So I've been receiving PFL payments for baby bonding leave for the past 6 weeks with no issues, then suddenly NOTHING showed up in my account last night when it was supposed to! I certified on time, everything has been normal, and now I'm freaking out because I've got bills due on Friday. I've called the EDD number literally 27 times today and either get disconnected or told the wait time is over 2 hours?! I tried the online message system but who knows when they'll respond. Has anyone experienced a random missing payment during their baby bonding leave? What could be causing this? Did I do something wrong with my certification? I'm literally about to have a meltdown because my rent is due and I NEED this money!

This happened to me during my maternity leave too - it could be one of several things: 1) You might have accidentally entered something on your certification that flagged the system (like reporting work hours or being out of state), 2) Your biweekly certification period might have changed slightly and payment is coming a day later, 3) There could be a random system verification happening. Check your payment history on the EDD portal - does it show the payment as pending or is there nothing at all?

•Thanks for responding! I checked the payment history and there's NOTHING there for this period - not even pending. The last payment shows from two weeks ago. I definitely didn't report any work hours and haven't left the state. I'm so confused because everything has been going smoothly until now.

•Are you also getting the ridiculous wait times when you call? Have you found any way to get through to them?

The EXACT same thing happened during my PFL claim last month. Turns out they were doing some kind of "quarterly review" on my claim because I transitioned from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. The most FRUSTRATING part was that they didn't notify me AT ALL that this was happening. The payment ended up being a week late with zero explanation. Have you hit the halfway point of your 8 weeks of baby bonding? Sometimes they do verification at that point too. The system is completely broken and they don't care that actual families are depending on this money!

•Yes! I'm exactly at the halfway point of my 8 weeks! That makes so much sense that they might be doing some kind of verification. Why wouldn't they just TELL US this is happening? So frustrating!

have u checked if your claim balance has enough left? sometimes ppl run out faster than they expect especially if u had pregnancy disability first

•I just double-checked my claim balance and I should have plenty left. I only started my baby bonding about 6 weeks ago after my 6 weeks of recovery from birth. So I should have at least 2 more weeks of benefits.

I work as an HR benefits coordinator and see this ALL the time. Here's what's likely happening: at the midpoint of your PFL baby bonding claim (around week 4 of 8), EDD often does an automated verification check to make sure you're still eligible. This usually delays payment by 2-5 business days but CAN be expedited if you actually speak to a claims specialist. The problem is getting through to someone. I've seen dozens of employees stuck in the same situation - they need the money urgently but can't reach anyone at EDD. Regular phone methods almost never work during high volume periods like now. My advice is to absolutely keep trying early morning (8:00am sharp) and right after lunch (12:30pm).

•Thank you for the explanation! That makes so much sense - I wish they would just tell claimants this is happening instead of leaving us panicking. I'll try calling at 8am tomorrow. Really appreciate your insight!

I had this EXACT situation last month! My 4th payment just disappeared into thin air and I couldn't get anyone on the phone for DAYS. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an EDD agent in about 10 minutes. They explained that my claim needed a "mid-claim review" and they fixed it right on the spot. Money was in my account the next day. Check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 I was super skeptical at first but when you're desperate and need your baby bonding money, it's worth it. Way better than calling 27+ times and getting nowhere.

•I've heard mixed things about these services. Did you actually have to talk to someone or did they just connect you through to EDD?

Double-check that you don't have any pending forms or certifications in your account. Sometimes the system requires additional documentation at the halfway point of baby bonding PFL. Look specifically for any messages or alerts in your EDD Online account - they don't always send emails about these requirements. If nothing shows up in your account, you definitely need to speak with an agent. If your child just turned 1 year old, that could also trigger a verification since PFL baby bonding must be used before the child's first birthday.

•My baby is only 3 months old, so definitely not the birthday issue. I've checked my online account repeatedly and there are no messages, alerts, or forms showing as needed. It's so frustrating because everything looks completely normal in the system!

•OMG you're right! I didn't even think about that. Every holiday seems to throw their whole system into chaos. My sister had the same problem after Memorial Day with her disability payments.

Update us when you get this resolved! It would be helpful to know what caused the delay for others who might experience this. Based on everything you've shared, it sounds like the mid-claim review that the HR person mentioned. Those typically take 3-4 business days to clear automatically, but getting through to a rep can fix it immediately. Just make sure you have all your claim information ready (claim number, last payment date, etc.) when you do manage to speak with someone so they can assist you quickly.

•Will definitely update! I'm going to try calling right at 8am tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. I need this resolved ASAP before rent is due. Really appreciate all the advice from everyone!

UPDATE: Finally got through to EDD this morning! You all were right - it was a "mid-claim review" that happens automatically around week 4 of baby bonding. The rep pushed it through manually and said the payment should arrive in my account within 24-48 hours. She also said they're "working on" sending notifications about these reviews in the future, but who knows if that will actually happen. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions during my mini-meltdown!

•Excellent! Glad you got it resolved. For future reference (or anyone else reading this), these mid-claim reviews happen because PFL baby bonding can be broken into multiple segments, so they verify continued eligibility at certain points. It's absolutely a flaw that they don't notify claimants about this process. Thanks for updating us!
