PFL case pending for months, no response from EDD. What to do?
Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with my PFL case. It's been months since I filed and sent in all the documents they asked for, but I still haven't heard anything back. Has anyone else been waiting this long? I'm thinking about sending an email to check on the status, but I'm not sure what to say. Any advice on how to get some answers?

Ugh, I feel ya. I've been waiting for like 3 months now. It's ridiculous how long this process takes. Have you tried calling them? That's what I did after waiting forever.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever. How did you manage to actually talk to someone?

•Oh man, it took me like a whole day of redialing. I started at 8 AM sharp and just kept hitting redial. Finally got through around 2 PM. It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way 😩

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through on my second try doing that. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO if you're desperate to talk to someone.

•Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

•I get it, but think about how much time and stress it saves. For me, it was worth every penny to finally get some answers.

Here's an email template you can use to inquire about your case: Subject: Inquiry on Pending Paid Family Leave Case Status Dear EDD Representative, I am writing to request an update on my Paid Family Leave (PFL) case, which has been pending for several months. I submitted all requested documents over a month ago and have not received any further communication. Could you please provide me with an update or let me know if there are additional steps required? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Contact Information]

•Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'll definitely use this template to reach out to them.

•Good template, but don't expect a quick response. I sent something similar and it took them 3 weeks to get back to me 🙄

•Make sure to include your case number if you have one! It'll help them find your info faster.

Has anyone tried reaching out to their local representative? I've heard that sometimes they can help push things along with EDD.

•I did this! It actually helped. My case got resolved within 2 weeks after my rep's office contacted EDD. Definitely worth a shot!

•Just Google '[your city] state representative'. Their office should have contact info on their website. Good luck!

Guys, I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's what you need to know: 1. PFL cases can take 2-3 months to process, especially if there's high volume. 2. Make sure ALL your docs are in order. One missing form can delay everything. 3. Keep a log of all your communications with EDD. 4. If you haven't heard back in 60 days, that's when you should start following up aggressively. 5. Email is actually better than calling most of the time. You get a paper trail. 6. If all else fails, contact your state rep or consider legal aid. Hang in there, I know it's frustrating but most cases do get resolved eventually!

•This is super helpful, thank you! Do you know if there's a way to check if they've received all my documents?

•Unfortunately, there's no easy way to check document status online. Your best bet is to call or email and specifically ask if they have all required docs on file.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose so people just give up.

•It's not rigged, just underfunded and overwhelmed. But yeah, it definitely needs improvement.

Quick question - has anyone had luck with the online portal? I tried using it but it's so confusing lol

•The online portal is a joke. Half the time it doesn't even load for me 🙄

•It worked okay for me, but yeah, it's not very user-friendly. Try using it early in the morning, seems to work better then.

I'm in the exact same boat - filed in September and still waiting! What really helped me was keeping a detailed spreadsheet of every interaction (dates, confirmation numbers, documents sent, etc.). Also, try emailing them weekly with a brief status update request. I know it sounds annoying, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD. Don't give up - I've heard from others that cases often get resolved all at once after months of silence. Hang in there! 💪

•Thanks for the spreadsheet tip! That's actually really smart - I should have been tracking everything from the beginning. I'm definitely going to start doing weekly emails too. It's frustrating that we have to be so persistent just to get basic information about our own cases, but if that's what it takes... 🤷♀️ Did you use any specific subject line for your weekly emails that seemed to get better responses?

I'm dealing with the same frustrating situation - filed my PFL claim back in August and it's been radio silence ever since! Reading through everyone's advice here has been really helpful. I think I'm going to try a combination approach: use that email template from William, start calling right when they open like Vanessa suggested, and maybe even reach out to my local rep if nothing else works. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get updates on our own cases, but I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. At least we're not alone in this mess! 😤

•Same here! Filed in September and it's been crickets ever since. This thread has been a lifesaver - I had no idea so many people were dealing with the same delays. I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy and that email template. It's honestly crazy that we have to become experts at navigating bureaucracy just to get our benefits, but at least we can help each other out! Thanks for putting together such a solid game plan 👍

•Logan, you're definitely not alone! I just went through this nightmare myself earlier this year. One thing I'd add to your plan - when you do get through to someone (whether by phone or email), ask them to put notes in your file about what was discussed. That way if you have to call again, the next person can see the history. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor if the first person can't help. Sometimes they have more access to expedite things. The whole process is beyond frustrating but stay persistent! 🙏

Wow, reading all these responses makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one stuck in PFL limbo! I filed my claim back in October and have been pulling my hair out wondering what's going on. The combination of advice here is gold - I'm definitely going to try William's email template first, then follow up with early morning calls like Vanessa suggested. If that doesn't work, contacting my local rep sounds like the nuclear option that actually works based on Olivia's experience. It's honestly insane that we have to become professional bureaucracy navigators just to get our own benefits, but this community support is everything right now. Thanks for creating this thread Katherine - sometimes just knowing others are fighting the same fight helps keep you sane! 🤞

•Jacob, you're so right about this community support being everything! I just joined this group after finding this thread through a Google search (been desperately looking for answers about my own PFL delay). Filed mine in late September and same story - complete silence from EDD. This whole thread has been like a masterclass in dealing with government bureaucracy! I'm taking notes on everyone's strategies. The fact that we have to crowdsource solutions for basic government services is pretty wild, but I'm grateful people like you all are willing to share what works. Definitely going to start with that email template and work my way up the escalation ladder. Here's hoping we all get some resolution soon! 🤞

I'm going through the exact same thing! Filed my PFL claim in early September and it's been complete radio silence since then. This thread is honestly a godsend - I was starting to think I was the only one dealing with these crazy delays. I'm definitely going to try that email template from William first, then move on to the early morning calling strategy if that doesn't work. The idea of contacting my local representative is something I never even thought of, but after reading Olivia's success story, it might be worth a shot if all else fails. It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to become expert system navigators just to get basic updates on our own cases, but at least we can help each other figure this mess out. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - knowing I'm not alone in this bureaucratic nightmare actually helps a lot! 🙏

•Ahooker-Equator, you're definitely in good company here! I just joined this community after dealing with my own PFL nightmare - filed in August and still waiting. This thread has been incredibly helpful, and I'm actually bookmarking all the advice to create my own action plan. One thing I'd add based on what I've learned from other forums - try to get everything in writing when you do talk to someone. I've heard horror stories of people being told different things by different agents. Also, if you're on social media, sometimes tweeting at EDD gets faster responses than their regular channels (weird but apparently true). The whole situation is beyond frustrating, but at least we've got this amazing community to lean on. Sending good vibes that all of us stuck in this limbo get some movement soon! 💪
