EDD Paid Family Leave: How to fix wrong start date after approval?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my paid family leave application. I got approved, which is great, but I think I messed up and put the wrong year for my starting date. I got a call from the EDD to confirm some details, but now I can't get through to them on the phone to fix this. Has anyone dealt with something similar or know how to get in touch with a real person there? I'm worried this might mess up my benefits.

Ugh, dealing with EDD is such a nightmare! I had a similar issue last year and it took me weeks to get it sorted. Have you tried faxing them? Sometimes that works better than calling.

Faxing? What year is it, 1995? šŸ˜‚ But for real, does that actually work?

I know it sounds crazy, but it actually did work for me! šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Sometimes you gotta go old school to beat the system lol

Can confirm, faxing is like a secret backdoor to govt agencies. Its weird but it works

I feel your pain, OP. The EDD system is so broken. I've been trying to get through for months about my unemployment claim. It's like they don't want us to actually get our benefits. 🤬

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things through or at least get you in touch with the right person at EDD.

That's a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

Just google your address + 'state representative' and it should pop up. Most have contact forms on their websites. Good luck!

Hey guys, I actually found a method that works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before and I've got some tips for dealing with EDD and correcting application errors: • First, document everything. Write down the date you submitted your application, when you noticed the error, and any communication you've had with EDD. • Try calling right when they open in the morning. The lines are usually less busy then. • If you can't get through by phone, send a message through your online account. Be clear and concise about the error. • As someone else mentioned, contacting your state rep can be helpful. They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with state agency issues. • If all else fails, you might need to appeal. There should be instructions on how to do this in your approval letter. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is frustrating, but you'll get it sorted eventually. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat, OP. Been trying to fix an error on my claim for weeks. This whole system is a joke. Good luck to you!

Pro tip: if you're gonna be on hold for hours, put your phone on speaker and do something else productive. I learned a new language waiting for EDD to pick up šŸ˜…

Klingon. Figured if I'm gonna waste time, might as well go all out šŸ––

Hey Freya! I went through something similar a few months ago with my PFL claim. Here's what worked for me: try calling the EDD PFL line (1-877-238-4373) exactly at 8:00 AM when they open - like literally have your finger ready to hit redial at 7:59:59. I also had success sending a secure message through my EDD online account with screenshots of the error and a clear explanation. Make sure to mention that you've already been approved but need to correct the start date - this helps them prioritize it since you're not a new application. The whole process took about 2 weeks once I got through, but they were able to adjust my dates retroactively. Don't panic, this kind of error is more common than you'd think and they deal with it regularly!

This is super helpful! I'm dealing with a similar issue right now and was getting so frustrated with the phone lines. The tip about calling exactly at 8 AM is gold - I never thought about being that precise with timing. Quick question though - when you sent the secure message, did you get a response pretty quickly or did it take a while for them to get back to you?
