EDD Error E311 when filing for PFL - info doesn't match records. Help!
I'm trying to apply for Paid Family Leave but keep getting Error E311 saying my info doesn't match EDD records. I've double-checked everything and it's all correct. Has anyone else run into this? How did you fix it? I need to file for leave starting in a few months and I'm worried this will delay everything.

Ugh, I had the same issue last year. It's so frustrating! Have you tried calling them? Sometimes their system just glitches and they need to manually update something on their end.

•I've been trying to call but can never get through. It's always busy or they hang up on me 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they're supposed to start answering phones. It's ridiculous we have to do this, but it worked for me.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

•How long did you have to wait for the callback?

•It took about 2 hours for me, but it was way better than being stuck on hold myself. I just went about my day and got the call when an agent was ready.

Have you checked if your employer reported your wages correctly? Sometimes that can cause mismatches in the system.

This happened to me too! Turns out I had gotten married and changed my name with Social Security, but EDD didn't have the update. Make sure all your info matches across different government agencies.

•Oh that's interesting. I haven't had any name changes, but I'll double check everything just in case. Thanks!

The EDD system is such a joke. They need to upgrade their tech from the stone age 🦕 Good luck OP, you're gonna need it lol

•For real tho. It's 2023 and we're still dealing with these prehistoric systems. Smh 🤦♂️

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD for years: 1. Double-check ALL your info. Even a slight typo can cause issues. 2. Make sure your work history in their system is up to date. 3. If you've moved recently, update your address with them directly. 4. Try using a different browser or clearing your cache. 5. If all else fails, you NEED to talk to a human. Use the tips others have shared about calling early. 6. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts, errors, and any communications. 7. If you're really stuck, reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things through. Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Sometimes the issue is on the employer's end. Might be worth checking with your company's HR to make sure they've submitted everything correctly on their side.

•That's a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll reach out to HR tomorrow. Thanks!

I had this exact same error a few months ago! Turns out my SSN was somehow corrupted in their system - like one digit was wrong on their end even though I was entering it correctly. The only way I found out was by finally getting through to someone on the phone who could see the discrepancy. They had to file some kind of correction form and it took about 2 weeks to fix, but then my PFL application went through no problem. Definitely try the early morning calling strategy others mentioned - it really does work better than calling later in the day.

•Oh wow, that's really helpful to know! A corrupted SSN in their system would definitely explain why everything looks right on my end but keeps getting rejected. I'm definitely going to try calling first thing in the morning and specifically ask them to verify what SSN they have on file versus what I'm entering. Two weeks sounds frustrating but at least there's a fix. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I went through this same nightmare last month! Error E311 drove me crazy for weeks. What finally worked for me was going to a local EDD office in person with all my documents. I know it's a pain, but the staff there could see exactly what was causing the mismatch in real time and fix it on the spot. Turned out there was some weird formatting issue with how my previous employer's name was entered in their system vs. what was showing on my W2. The online system couldn't handle it but the in-person rep fixed it in like 10 minutes. If you have an EDD office nearby, it might save you weeks of phone tag!
