SDI Payment Delays: How Long Until CA EDD Disability Payments Start?

Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with this whole disability claim process. I filed my claim a while back and I still haven't received any payments. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to start getting disability payments? I'm starting to worry about bills piling up and I could really use some advice on what to do next. Has anyone else been in this situation before?

It took me about 6 weeks to get my first payment. Hang in there! Make sure all your paperwork is in order and double-check that they have everything they need from you.

Great advice! OP, if you haven't already, double-check to see if there are any missing documents.

Have you guys tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can help speed things up.

That's actually a good idea, involving local representatives. They might have more leverage or direct contacts.

I heard they're super backed up because of covid. Might be why it's taking so long. Hang in there!

Yeah, COVID caused delays across the board. Fingers crossed they improve the process soon.

From personal experience and expert advice, the disability claim process can be quite daunting and unpredictable. Typically, once all your paperwork is properly submitted, and no further information is required, the process might take up to 3-6 months for you to start receiving payments. Unfortunately, delays can occur due to case complexity or administrative backlog, factors often outside your control. To mitigate these delays, ensure that all documentation is thoroughly completed and submitted, including necessary medical records and evidence. Frequent follow-ups with the claims office, although time-consuming, can also be effective. Tools like Claimyr have been proven helpful by some users who struggle with long hold times, though it does come at a cost. While Claimyr provides a solution for quicker access to representatives, consider it an optional route if you are comfortable with the fee. Importantly, maintaining contact with your local representative can sometimes expedite the process. Remember, you are entitled to back pay from your disability onset date, so although delays are frustrating, ensure you receive everything you are owed. Stay persistent, patient, and proactive. Good luck!

Maybe we should all show up at their office and demand answers! Who's with me? 💪😤

It would be a sight to see, but probably not the best approach for getting things done.

I hear you! It's like we're left hanging without any updates. Did they at least confirm they received your paperwork?

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails end up there. Just a thought!

That's a good call. I found a few important emails in my spam folder before.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous!

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

I think $20 is worth it if the wait times are consistently horrible. But it's sad we have to resort to third-party services.

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta be proactive and keep bugging them until they give you an answer.

I've tried calling but I can never get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins on hold that way.

I've heard that calling on different days might also yield better results. Some days have shorter wait times.

Here's what you need to know about disability payments: 1. Processing time: It typically takes 2-4 weeks for initial processing, but can be longer depending on your case complexity. 2. Paperwork: Make sure ALL your forms are filled out correctly. Any mistakes can cause major delays. 3. Medical evidence: Ensure your doctor has submitted all necessary medical records. 4. Follow up: Don't be afraid to call and check on your claim status regularly. 5. Back pay: Remember, you'll usually get back pay from the date of your disability onset. 6. Online account: Create an online account to check your claim status 24/7. 7. Be patient: Unfortunately, delays are common. Budget accordingly if possible. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim about 8 weeks ago and still waiting. What I've learned from calling (took me literally 50+ attempts to get through) is that they're incredibly backlogged. The rep told me to expect 10-14 weeks total processing time, which is way longer than what they advertise online. One thing that helped me was setting up the online account - at least I can see that my claim is "in progress" rather than wondering if it disappeared into the void. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you submitted your doctor's "first report of injury" form. Apparently a lot of people miss that one and it causes huge delays. Hang in there - I know how stressful it is when bills are piling up! 💪
