SDI claim open but no payments yet - how to project timeframe and close old claim?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my disability claim. It's been open for a while now but I haven't received any payments yet. I'm trying to figure out when I might actually get paid and also need to close an old claim. Anyone been through this before? Any advice on how to speed things up or what I should expect?

Ugh, been there done that. The waiting game is the worst! š« When did you file your claim? That can make a big difference in how long it takes.

ā¢I filed about 6 weeks ago. Is that normal to still be waiting?

ā¢Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can snag someone before the lines get crazy.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? š¤

ā¢Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Got through in about an hour instead of spending all day trying to call.

ā¢$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken š¤¦āāļø

ā¢I get it, but for me it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting whole days trying to get through. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, ya know?

Here's what I've learned from my experience with disability claims: ⢠Be persistent: Call regularly, but be polite. The people on the phone aren't responsible for the delays. ⢠Document everything: Keep a log of when you filed, who you talked to, and what they said. ⢠Check your online account: Sometimes updates appear there before you get notified. ⢠For closing old claims: Make sure you have the claim number and dates ready. Ask for a confirmation number or email when it's done. ⢠Payment timeframes vary wildly. I've seen anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. A lot depends on how complex your case is and if they need additional info. ⢠If you're in dire straits, mention that. Sometimes they can expedite for hardship cases. Hang in there, OP. The system is a mess, but eventually it does work... most of the time. š

Anyone else feel like we're all just stuck in a giant game of bureaucratic pinball? 𤔠Bounce from one department to another, never getting any real answers...

Hey OP, just a heads up - there was a system update last month that's been causing some delays. Might be why your claim is taking longer than usual. Hang in there!

I'm going through something similar right now! Filed my SDI claim about 5 weeks ago and still waiting. What I've found helpful is logging into the EDD online portal every few days to check for status updates - sometimes there are requests for additional documentation that don't get mailed out right away. Also, if you have an old claim to close, you can usually do that through the online system too under "Manage Claims." It's frustrating but from what I've read here and other places, 6-8 weeks seems to be the new normal unfortunately. Stay strong! šŖ
