SDI Payment Delay: Haven't Received Disability Check in Weeks - What to Do?

Hey everyone, I'm really frustrated. I haven't received my disability payment yet and it's been a while. Has anyone else experienced delays with their payments recently? I'm starting to get worried and could use some advice on what to do next.

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. It's been two weeks since my last payment and nothing. Have you tried calling them? I've been trying but can't get through.

Calling is a nightmare 😫 I spent 3 hours on hold yesterday and got disconnected. This system is so broken!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes that way.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try that tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so messed up 🤦‍♂️

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Was worth every penny to finally get my issue resolved.

Can you explain more about how it works? Do they give you a specific time for the callback?

0 coins

Yeah, so you choose the department you need to reach, pay, and then they start calling. When an agent picks up, your phone rings and you're connected. Took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to actively wait on hold.

Have you checked your claim status online? Sometimes there's info there about payment delays or issues with your claim.

I've been dealing with this for MONTHS. Here's what I've learned: • Always double-check that your claim info is up to date • Submit any requested docs ASAP • Keep a log of all your calls and attempts to contact them • If you can, get your doctor to follow up on their end • Consider reaching out to your local representative for help It's a long process, but don't give up. You'll get your money eventually!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start keeping a log. Did reaching out to a rep actually help in your case?

0 coins

It did! My state assembly member's office has a dedicated person for EDD issues. They were able to escalate my case and get it resolved within a week.

anyone else notice that the delays always seem to happen around holidays or the end of the month? 🤔 feels like they're playing games with our money

0 coins

Omg yes! I swear they do this on purpose. It's like they forget we have bills to pay 😤

Hey OP, how long has it been since your last payment? There was a system upgrade last month that caused some delays. Might be related.

0 coins

It's been about 3 weeks now. I didn't know about the upgrade, that could explain it. Thanks for the info!

lol welcome to the wonderful world of government efficiency 🤡 where everything's made up and the deadlines don't matter

Guys, I know it's frustrating, but remember the people working there are probably overwhelmed too. My friend works for the disability office and says they're severely understaffed. Doesn't excuse the delays, but maybe explains them a bit.

Nice try, government spy 👀 jk but for real, they need to hire more people then!

0 coins

Lol definitely not a spy 😂 But yeah, agreed they need more staff badly.

Has anyone tried the online chat feature? I heard it's less of a wait than calling.

0 coins

I tried it last week. Waited 2 hours to connect, then got disconnected 🙃 Back to square one!

PSA: If you're really in a bind, some food banks and community orgs offer emergency assistance for folks waiting on disability payments. Might be worth checking out if you're struggling.

0 coins

This is really good to know, thanks for sharing! Do you know any specific orgs to look into?

0 coins

It varies by area, but try searching for 'disability emergency assistance' + your city name. United Way is also a good place to start!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now - it's been almost 4 weeks since my last payment and I'm getting really stressed about rent and bills. The waiting and uncertainty is honestly the worst part. I tried calling every day last week but like others said, either can't get through or get disconnected after waiting forever. Has anyone had luck with faxing documents or sending certified mail? I'm wondering if that might get more attention than just calling.

@Arjun Kurti I feel your pain! 4 weeks is way too long. I haven t'tried faxing yet, but that s'actually a really good idea - at least you d'have a paper trail. From what I ve'read in this thread, it sounds like contacting your local representative might be your best bet for getting some real action. @Lena Müller said her assembly member s office'got her case resolved in a week! Worth a shot when you re dealing'with rent stress 😰
