anyone else think its crazy that in 2023 were still dealing with physical debit cards? why cant they just do direct deposit like a normal job smh
I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My claim was approved about 2 weeks ago and still nothing. I've been checking my mailbox obsessively every day. It's so stressful when you're depending on that money. From what I've read online, it seems like the timeframe can be anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on mail delays and processing. Have you tried checking if there's a way to see the status online? I'm thinking of trying that calling service someone mentioned above if I don't hear anything by Friday.
Have you checked if there's any system maintenance going on? Sometimes they do updates and it can cause delays in processing.
I went through the same thing a few months ago! Filed my claim on a Tuesday and it didn't show up until the following Monday. What helped me was logging out completely and clearing my browser cache, then logging back in. Sometimes it's just a display issue on their end. Also, make sure you're checking the right section - I was looking under "Claims" when I should have been checking "Disability Benefits" (they're in different tabs). Don't stress too much, the confirmation number means they have your claim!
Congrats on the name change! I went through something similar last year. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your legal name change documents (court order, new ID, etc.) 2. Call EDD and explain the situation 3. They'll update your info in the system 4. Once that's done, you can apply for Paid Family Leave Be patient, it might take a few days for the changes to reflect in their system. Good luck!
I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! Just went through a legal name change and trying to navigate all the government systems is such a headache. From what I've researched, you'll definitely need your certified copy of the name change decree from the court, plus your updated Social Security card and driver's license. When you do get through to EDD (fingers crossed!), make sure to ask them to put a note in your file about the name change so if you have to call back, the next agent will see what's going on. I've heard it can take 1-2 weeks for the system to fully update once they process it. Stay strong - we'll get through this bureaucratic maze eventually! 💪
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's good to know I'm not alone in this struggle. I actually just got my updated Social Security card yesterday, so I'm getting all my documents together. The tip about asking them to put a note in the file is really smart - I wouldn't have thought of that. 1-2 weeks for the system to update sounds reasonable, I was worried it might take months like some horror stories I've heard. Really appreciate the encouragement, this whole process has been so stressful! 😅
Yo, I feel for you. The language barrier is rough. Have you tried using Google Translate while on the phone? It's not perfect but it might help a little.
Have you tried contacting your local EDD office directly? Many offices have bilingual staff who can help in person. Also, there are several community organizations that offer free assistance to Spanish speakers navigating EDD claims - organizations like Centro Legal de la Raza or local immigrant resource centers often have volunteers who can help translate or even make calls with you. Don't give up, there are people who want to help!

I went through something similar with my back injury last year. The key is getting your doctor to submit that updated medical certification (DE 2501 form) as soon as possible - don't wait until the last minute! I made that mistake and had a 2-week gap in benefits while they processed everything. Also, if you're in construction like me, make sure your doctor is very specific about your work restrictions in the certification. They need to clearly state that you cannot perform your regular job duties, not just that you're "recovering." EDD scrutinizes construction workers more closely since they assume we can do light duty (even when we can't). One more tip - if your doctor's office is slow with paperwork, offer to pick up the completed form yourself and submit it directly to EDD. That saved me time when I needed my extension processed quickly.

•This is really helpful advice, especially about being specific with work restrictions! I hadn't thought about picking up the form myself - that's a great tip. My doctor's office can be pretty slow with paperwork so I'll definitely ask to pick it up directly. Thanks for mentioning the scrutiny around construction workers too - I'll make sure my orthopedist is very clear that I absolutely cannot perform any of my regular duties yet.
