When are unemployment benefits paid in Washington - confused about payment schedule
I just filed my first weekly claim with Washington ESD and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually get paid. The website says benefits are processed but doesn't give clear dates. Do they pay on specific days of the week or is it random? I filed my weekly claim on Sunday and it's now Wednesday with no payment yet. Getting stressed about rent coming up next week.

Washington ESD typically processes payments within 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. If you filed Sunday, you should see payment by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, assuming there are no issues with your claim.

•Thanks! It's Thursday now and still nothing. Should I be worried or just wait another day?

•Give it until Friday. Sometimes there are processing delays, especially if it's your first payment or if there's a holiday.

•What bank do you use? Wondering if that makes a difference for when deposits show up.

•chase bank. but i think most banks get it around the same time once washington esd releases the payment

If you're having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to check on your payment status, I had success using Claimyr recently. It's a service that helps you get connected to actual ESD agents without sitting on hold forever. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really helped me resolve a payment delay issue.

•Never heard of this service. Is it legit or some kind of scam? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

•It's legitimate. I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Way better than calling Washington ESD directly and getting hung up on constantly.

•Might have to try this if my payment doesn't show up tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Washington ESD payment schedule depends on when you file and what day of the week it is. Generally: File Sunday-Tuesday = Payment Wednesday-Friday. File Wednesday-Saturday = Payment the following Monday-Wednesday. First payments can take longer due to verification processes.

•This is helpful but what about holidays? Does that push everything back?

Freya Nielsen
•Yes, federal holidays will delay processing by one business day typically. State holidays sometimes affect it too.

UGH the payment timing is so inconsistent with Washington ESD!!! Sometimes I get paid Tuesday, sometimes Friday, makes budgeting impossible. The whole system needs an overhaul.

•I feel your frustration. It's been like this for years and they never seem to fix the communication about payment schedules.

•At least I'm not the only one confused about this. Thought I was missing something obvious.

Check your payment history in your Washington ESD account online. It should show 'Payment Issued' with a date. That's usually 1-2 days before it hits your bank account depending on your bank's processing time.

•Just checked and it says 'Payment Processing' from yesterday. So hopefully tomorrow!

•Yeah once it says payment processing you're golden. Usually hits the next business day.

been on standby for 2 weeks and just got called back to work part time. when i file my partial claim this week will the payment timing be the same as regular weekly claims?

Malik Thompson
•Partial payments follow the same schedule as regular weekly claims. Just make sure you report your earnings accurately when you file.

•thanks, wasn't sure if partial claims got processed differently

FYI if your claim is in adjudication you won't get payments until that's resolved, regardless of when you file your weekly claims. Found that out the hard way.

Emma Anderson
•Mine isn't in adjudication, just filed my first claim after getting approved. Still nerve-wracking waiting for that first payment though.

Anyone else notice Washington ESD payments sometimes come through at weird hours? Got mine at 3am last week, scared me when my phone buzzed with the deposit notification.

Mateo Martinez
•Banks process ACH transfers overnight so that's normal. Better than not getting it at all!

•true, just caught me off guard since my paycheck from work always came during business hours

Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank for deposits. That way you know immediately when your UI payment hits instead of constantly checking your balance.

•Good idea! Just set that up now. Will save me from obsessively checking my account.

•Wish I had done this sooner. The uncertainty about payment timing is stressful enough without having to manually check constantly.

Washington ESD used to have a more predictable schedule pre-2020 but everything got messed up during the pandemic overhaul. Still hasn't fully normalized.

•Yeah the old system had issues but at least you knew what to expect. This new timing is all over the place.

•Well at least I know it's not just me being impatient then. The system really is inconsistent.

If you're worried about payment delays, I also used Claimyr last month when my benefits got held up. Super easy to use and finally got through to someone at Washington ESD who could explain what was happening. Worth checking out if you need to talk to an actual person.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm already struggling financially so can't afford expensive services.

•It's actually really reasonable considering how much time and frustration it saves. Check their website for current info - claimyr.com

UPDATE: My payment finally came through! Filed Sunday evening, payment showed up Friday morning. So about 5 days total for first payment.

•First payments always take longer. Your subsequent weekly payments should be faster once you're in the system.

Emma Anderson
•That's reassuring. This waiting game is brutal when you're trying to pay bills.

Does anyone know if Washington ESD payments come through on weekends? Or only business days?
0 coins
Malik Thompson
•Only business days for Washington ESD payments. Banks don't process government ACH transfers on weekends typically.

Jamal Carter
•Makes sense, just hoping it might speed things up if they processed weekends too.

Been getting benefits for 4 months now and the pattern I've noticed: File claim Sunday = Payment Wednesday/Thursday. File claim Monday-Tuesday = Payment Thursday/Friday. Later in the week filing pushes to next week.

Emma Anderson
•This is super helpful! I filed Sunday so Wednesday/Thursday sounds about right. It's Thursday now so fingers crossed for today.

•Yeah I've seen similar timing. The key is filing early in the week if you want faster payment.

Sometimes Washington ESD has system maintenance that delays payments. Check their website announcements if your payment seems unusually late.
0 coins
Emma Anderson
•Good point. I should check that. Didn't even think about maintenance windows affecting payments.

AstroExplorer
•They usually announce maintenance but not always prominently. Better to check if something seems off.

Anyone else think Washington ESD should send email notifications when payments are processed? Would eliminate so much uncertainty about timing.

Fatima Al-Farsi
•That would be amazing! Other states do this. Washington is behind on a lot of basic communication features.

Emma Anderson
•Yes please! Just knowing when it's been sent would reduce the anxiety so much.

•You can sign up for text alerts through your Washington ESD account I think, but it's buried in the settings somewhere.

My cousin used some service called Claimyr when she couldn't get through to Washington ESD about a payment issue. Said it worked great and saved her hours of calling. Might be worth looking into if you keep having problems.

•Glad it worked out. The first payment is always the most stressful because you don't know what to expect.

PSA: If you have direct deposit set up wrong or your bank info changed, that will definitely delay your payment. Double check all that stuff in your Washington ESD account.

Emma Anderson
•Good reminder! I double-checked mine yesterday and it looks correct. Hopefully that's not the issue.

•Yeah wrong bank info can add weeks to getting your payment. Always verify that first when there are delays.
