When does Washington ESD unemployment pay out weekly benefits?
I just filed my weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering when I can expect the money to show up in my account. This is my third week claiming and I still haven't figured out the timing. Do they pay out the same day every week or does it vary? My rent is due Thursday so I'm trying to plan ahead. Anyone know the typical schedule for when Washington ESD processes payments?

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. If you filed Sunday, you should see it by Tuesday or Wednesday in most cases.

•That's a relief, thank you! So it should be there before my rent is due.

It depends on your bank too. Some banks process faster than others. Credit unions are usually quicker than big banks in my experience.

•I have Chase, are they usually slow with these deposits?

Ava Hernandez
•Chase is decent, not the fastest but not the slowest either. You should be fine by Wednesday.

Washington ESD processes payments Monday through Wednesday typically. If there's a holiday it can delay things by a day. Make sure you're filing your weekly claims before the Sunday midnight deadline to avoid any delays.

•Good to know about holidays! I always file on Sunday afternoons so I should be good there.

•What happens if you file late? Like Monday instead of Sunday?

•You can still file late but it might delay your payment. Washington ESD prefers you file by Sunday but they give you until the following Saturday to file for that week.

I've been having issues getting through to Washington ESD to check on a delayed payment from two weeks ago. Their phone lines are always busy and I can't get a real person. Has anyone found a reliable way to reach them?

•I had the same problem until I found Claimyr. It's a service that calls Washington ESD for you and gets you through to an actual agent. Check out their website at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

•try calling right at 8am when they open, sometimes you can get through

Does anyone know if the payment timing changes if you're on standby status? I got laid off temporarily and my employer put me on standby.

•Standby claims process the same way as regular unemployment claims. The timing should be identical - 2-3 business days after filing your weekly claim.

•Thanks! I wasn't sure if there were different rules for standby.

I'm still waiting for my first payment and it's been over a week. My claim shows approved but no money yet. Should I be worried?

•First payments can take longer, especially if there were any verification issues. Check your account for any pending issues that need to be resolved.

•I don't see any issues listed. Maybe I should try calling?

•Definitely call if it's been over a week for your first payment. That's not normal. If you can't get through on the regular lines, Claimyr might be worth trying to get you connected to someone who can check your account.

The Washington ESD website says payments are processed within 2 business days but that's not counting weekends right?

Isabella Martin
•Correct, business days don't include weekends or holidays. So if you file Sunday, Monday and Tuesday would be the first two business days.

•Got it, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

I've noticed my payments come at different times of day. Sometimes early morning, sometimes afternoon. Anyone else notice this?

•Yeah, I think it depends on when Washington ESD processes the batch your claim is in. As long as it's the right day I don't worry about the exact time.

•True, I guess I'm just anxious and checking my account every hour lol

What if there's an issue with your weekly claim? Like you made a mistake on the job search log or something?

Isabella Martin
•If there's an issue, Washington ESD will usually put a hold on your payment and you'll see a message in your account about what needs to be fixed. You'll need to resolve it before payments resume.

•How long does it typically take to resolve those kinds of issues?

Isabella Martin
•Depends on the issue. Simple corrections can be fixed online quickly, but if you need to talk to someone it could take longer depending on how busy they are.

I've been getting my payments like clockwork every Tuesday for the past month. File Sunday, get paid Tuesday. Very consistent.

•That's exactly what I'm hoping for! Sounds like once you get in the routine it's pretty predictable.

Mila Walker
•Yeah, as long as you file on time and don't have any issues, it's very reliable.

Does the amount affect when you get paid? Like do higher benefit amounts take longer to process?
0 coins
Olivia Garcia
•No, the payment amount doesn't affect processing time. Whether you get $200 or $800 a week, it processes on the same schedule.

•Good to know, thanks!

I had an adjudication issue that delayed my payments for three weeks. Once it was resolved though, I got all the back pay at once and then regular payments resumed on the normal schedule.

•How did you get the adjudication resolved? I might have one of those coming up.

•I had to call and provide additional documentation about my separation from work. It was a pain to get through to someone but once I did they were helpful.

•This is another situation where Claimyr could be useful - they specialize in getting you through to Washington ESD agents to resolve adjudication issues like this.

Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank so you know immediately when the deposit hits. Takes away the anxiety of constantly checking.

•That's a great idea! I'm definitely going to set that up.

•Wish I had thought of that weeks ago instead of obsessively checking my account balance!

If you have direct deposit set up correctly, the timing is pretty consistent. If you're getting a debit card payment it might be different.

Liam Brown
•I have direct deposit so that should help with consistency.

•what's the difference between direct deposit and the debit card?

Harper Hill
•Direct deposit goes straight to your bank account. The debit card is a prepaid card that Washington ESD loads your benefits onto. Direct deposit is usually faster.

I've been on unemployment for 6 months now and the payment timing has been super consistent. File Sunday afternoon, money in account Tuesday morning like clockwork.

Liam Brown
•That's reassuring! Sounds like once you're in the system it works pretty smoothly.

Avery Flores
•Yeah, the hardest part was just getting approved initially. After that it's been smooth sailing.

Just want to echo what others have said - typically 2-3 business days is the norm. If it ever takes longer than that, definitely contact Washington ESD to make sure there isn't an issue with your claim.
