When does unemployment pay - Washington ESD payment schedule questions
I'm really confused about when Washington ESD actually sends out unemployment payments. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like I'm supposed to but it's Thursday and still no payment in my account. My claim status shows 'paid' but I don't see the money anywhere. Is there a specific day of the week they process payments? How long does it usually take from filing your weekly claim to actually getting paid? I'm getting stressed because rent is due soon and I was counting on this money.

Washington ESD typically processes payments on Tuesday nights after you file your weekly claim. If you filed Sunday, you should see the deposit by Wednesday or Thursday depending on your bank. The 'paid' status means they've approved it for payment but it takes 1-2 business days to hit your account.

•Thank you! That makes me feel better. I bank with Chase so maybe it's just their processing time.

•Yeah Chase can be slow with deposits. I switched to a credit union and now I get my UI payments on Tuesday nights usually.

The payment schedule depends on when you file. Sunday filers usually get paid Tuesday/Wednesday. If you file later in the week it pushes back. Also check if you're on direct deposit - that's way faster than the debit card.

•I am on direct deposit so that should be faster right?

Malik Davis
•Yes direct deposit is definitely faster than waiting for the KeyBank debit card to load.

I had this same panic last month! Turns out my claim was being held up because I hadn't done my job search activities properly. Have you checked if there are any issues showing in your account? Sometimes payments get delayed for random verification stuff.

•I just checked and don't see any issues listed. Job search log is all filled out correctly.

•That's good then! Probably just normal processing time.

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD about payment timing, I discovered this service called Claimyr that helps you get through to an actual agent. They have a system that handles the calling for you - check out claimyr.com. There's even a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to check on a delayed payment issue.

•Thanks I'll look into that if my payment doesn't show up by tomorrow.

•Is that legit? Sounds too good to be true honestly.

•Yeah it's real. They just help you get through the phone queue. Worked for me when I was stuck trying to reach someone about my claim.

•Good to know about holidays affecting it. I didn't think about that.

Also worth noting that if this is your first payment after filing your initial claim, it can take longer. First payments sometimes take 3-5 business days even after showing 'paid' status while they verify everything.

•This is actually my 4th week claiming so it shouldn't be a first payment issue.

•My first payment took forever! Like a whole week after it said paid.

I track my payments and here's what I've noticed: File Sunday night, payment processed Tuesday around 11pm, hits my account Wednesday morning. Pretty consistent unless there's a banking holiday.

•That's really helpful data. I'll start paying attention to the exact timing.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! I've been waiting weeks for payments and Washington ESD just gives you the runaround. They say it's paid but where's the money?? This is people's livelihoods they're messing with!

•I feel your frustration but most people get paid on schedule. Maybe there's a specific issue with your claim?

•I've called 100 times and can never get through to find out what the issue is!

For those having trouble getting through to Washington ESD by phone, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier actually works pretty well. I used it when my payments got stuck in adjudication and needed to talk to someone immediately. Much better than spending hours trying to call yourself.

•Might have to try that. I'm desperate at this point.

•How much does something like that cost though?

•They focus on just helping you connect with Washington ESD agents. Check their site for details but it's worth it when you really need to reach someone.

Quick question - do you have to file by a certain time on Sunday to get the Tuesday payment? Or is it any time Sunday?

Javier Mendoza
•Any time Sunday works. I usually file Sunday evening and still get Tuesday processing.

I remember being so stressed about this when I first started claiming. Now I know the pattern and don't worry when it takes a day or two. Your payment will come!

•Yeah I'm probably just being anxious since this is still pretty new to me.

Just to add another data point - I'm with Bank of America and my payments usually hit Wednesday morning if I file Sunday. Tuesday night if I'm lucky.

•Seems like Wednesday morning is pretty standard then. I'll stop checking my account obsessively lol

One time my payment was delayed because I had answered one of the weekly questions wrong and it triggered a review. Might be worth double-checking your responses from this week's claim.

If your payment doesn't show up by Friday, definitely call Washington ESD or use one of those callback services. Sometimes there are issues that don't show up in your online account but they can see on their end.

•Good advice. I'll give it until Friday and then look into that Claimyr thing if needed.

•Friday is a good cutoff. Usually means something needs to be resolved if it takes that long.

Just want to say thanks for asking this question! I was wondering the same thing but was too embarrassed to ask. This thread helped a lot.

One more tip - set up text alerts with your bank for deposits. That way you know immediately when your UI payment hits instead of constantly checking your balance.

•That's smart! I'm going to do that right now.

I use Claimyr whenever I need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD about payment issues. Way less stressful than trying to get through the phone lines yourself. The video demo on their site shows exactly how it works if you're curious.
