When do you receive your unemployment money from Washington ESD?
I just filed my first weekly claim on Sunday and I'm wondering when the money actually hits my bank account. The Washington ESD website says payments are processed but doesn't give specific timing. Is it the same day every week? Does it depend on your bank? I'm trying to plan my bills and need to know when I can expect the deposit.

Usually takes 2-3 business days after you file your weekly claim. If you file Sunday, you'll typically see the money Wednesday or Thursday.

•That's helpful, thanks! Do you know if it's always the same day of the week once it gets established?

•Yeah, it becomes pretty consistent. Mine always hits on Wednesday now that I've been doing this for a few weeks.

depends on your bank too. credit unions are sometimes faster than big banks in my experience

•I have Chase, anyone know how they are with unemployment deposits?

•Chase is pretty standard, usually get mine by Thursday morning

The key thing is making sure you file your weekly claim correctly and on time. Washington ESD processes payments in batches, so if there are any issues with your claim it can delay everything. I had to use Claimyr.com to get through to an agent when my payments got stuck - they have a service that calls for you and gets you connected. Really saved me time instead of trying to call for hours.

•What kind of issues can delay payments? I thought I filled everything out right.

•Things like not reporting work hours correctly, job search issues, or if they need to verify something. The Claimyr service helped me figure out what was wrong - there's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT SET UP! I made the mistake of waiting for a debit card in the mail and it took forever. Direct deposit is so much faster.

•Oh good point! I did set up direct deposit when I filed my initial claim. How long did the debit card take?

•Like 2 weeks! And then you have to activate it and all that. Direct deposit is the way to go.

I've been getting mine every Tuesday for the past month. File on Sunday, money shows up Tuesday. But I bank with a local credit union so that might be why it's faster.

•That's really fast! Which credit union if you don't mind me asking?

•BECU. They've always been good with getting deposits posted quickly.

Just a heads up - if you miss the Sunday deadline for filing your weekly claim, you might not get paid that week at all. Washington ESD is pretty strict about the timing.

Collins Angel
•Wait, what's the exact deadline? I thought you had until midnight Sunday?

•You can file from Sunday through Saturday, but if you file late in the week your payment gets delayed to the next cycle.

•Good to know about holidays affecting it. Are there any other things that can cause delays?

•system maintenance sometimes pushes things back a day. also if you report any work hours they might hold it for review

Pro tip: set up text alerts from your bank so you know the second it hits. Takes away the anxiety of checking your account constantly.

What if your payment doesn't show up when it's supposed to? I'm worried about what to do if something goes wrong.

•First check your account on the Washington ESD website to see if there are any issues flagged. If everything looks good but you still don't get paid, you'll need to call them. That's another situation where Claimyr helped me - got connected to an agent right away instead of sitting on hold forever.

•How much does that service cost? Is it worth it?

•It's definitely worth it when you need to reach someone quickly. Check out claimyr.com for the details. Way better than spending all day trying to get through.

The Washington ESD system is so slow compared to other states. My friend in Oregon gets her money the next day after filing.

•Yeah but at least our system works consistently. I've heard horror stories from other states where people wait weeks for payments.

•True, I guess 2-3 days isn't that bad when you put it that way.

Does anyone know if the timing is different for standby claims vs regular unemployment? I'm on standby and not sure if it follows the same schedule.

Marcelle Drum
•Standby should follow the same payment schedule as regular UI. The processing is the same once you file your weekly claim.

First time filing and I'm so nervous about messing something up. What happens if I make a mistake on my weekly claim?

Adaline Wong
•Small mistakes usually aren't a big deal, but if you report wrong work hours or earnings it can cause issues. Just be as accurate as possible.

•What if I realize I made a mistake after I already submitted it?

•You'll probably need to call Washington ESD to correct it. Keep track of what you reported vs what actually happened.

I've been getting paid on different days each week and it's driving me crazy. Sometimes Wednesday, sometimes Thursday, once it was Friday.

•That's not normal. There might be something causing delays in your claim processing. Have you checked if there are any pending issues on your account? You might want to call and find out what's going on.

•I've tried calling but can never get through. Maybe I should try that Claimyr thing you mentioned.

•Yeah, that's exactly the kind of situation where it helps. They can get you connected to figure out why your payments are inconsistent.

Does the amount ever change from week to week? Mine has been the same every time but I'm curious.
0 coins
Marcelle Drum
•It should stay the same unless you report work hours or earnings. Then they deduct based on what you made.

Everett Tutum
•Got it, that makes sense. I haven't worked any hours yet so that's why it's consistent.

The waiting is honestly the most stressful part of this whole process. You're already dealing with being unemployed and then you have to worry about when the money will actually show up.

Hugh Intensity
•I totally get that. The uncertainty makes everything worse when you're already stressed about finances.

•Exactly! At least now I know what to expect timing-wise thanks to everyone's responses here.

Quick question - do you get paid for the week you just completed or the week coming up? I always get confused about this.
0 coins
Marcelle Drum
•You get paid for the week you just completed. So when you file on Sunday, you're reporting for the previous week (Sunday through Saturday) and that's what you get paid for.

Effie Alexander
•Thank you! That clears it up.

For anyone reading this thread later - save yourself some anxiety and just expect it to take 3 business days. That way if it comes earlier you're pleasantly surprised instead of stressed.

Collins Angel
•That's good advice! I think I was expecting it too soon and making myself anxious.

•Yeah, managing expectations is key. This whole process is stressful enough without adding unnecessary worry about timing.
