ESD payment shows 'paid' status but not in my bank account after 4 days - normal?
Hi everyone, I'm getting a bit worried here. I filed my unemployment claim on Sunday night, and now it's Thursday afternoon. When I check my ESD account, it's showing a status of 'paid' for this week, but I still don't have anything in my bank account. Is this normal? How long does it usually take for the money to actually hit your account once ESD marks it as paid? This is only my second payment since I got laid off from my nursing job last month, and the first one came through much faster. I'm counting on this to pay my car insurance tomorrow. 😬

It can take 2-3 business days after showing 'paid' for the money to actually hit your account. Bank processing times vary. I wouldn't worry until it's been 3 full business days after the paid status appeared. When exactly did it change to 'paid'?

•Thanks for responding! It changed to 'paid' early Tuesday morning. So that's only 2 business days I guess... maybe I'm being impatient. Just nervous because my first payment came through same day it showed paid.

•4 days?! Ugh that's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll have to call my insurance company and ask for an extension.

The ESD system is such garbage. They'll mark it paid just to look good on their reports but then take their sweet time actually sending the money. I've had it take up to 5 days before. And heaven forbid there's a holiday - then add another day or two! The whole system is designed to make us suffer.

•That's not quite accurate. Once ESD marks it as paid, it's actually submitted to their payment processor. The delay is usually with the ACH transfer system and your bank, not ESD intentionally holding funds. The ESD payment processor typically initiates transfers within 24 hours of the 'paid' status, but the banking system can take 2-3 business days to complete the transaction, especially for first-time payments to an account.

If you're worried about your payment, you might want to try Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent directly. I was in a similar situation where my payment was hung up for almost a week and I couldn't get through on the regular phone line. Claimyr connected me to an actual ESD agent in about 25 minutes who was able to tell me exactly what was happening with my payment. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. Their website is claimyr.com - definitely made the process way less stressful for me.

•Thanks for the suggestion. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow I might give that a try. Did they tell you anything useful when you finally got through?

•Yes! The agent was able to see exactly where my payment was in the system and confirmed it had been sent to my bank. They explained that sometimes the first couple payments take longer because the bank flags them for additional verification. After that initial verification period, mine started coming through more consistently.

This happened to me too! I freaked out and called my bank and they said they could see the pending deposit but it wouldn't clear until the next day. Maybe check with your bank to see if they can see it pending?

•That's a good idea. I just checked my pending transactions online and don't see anything yet, but maybe they can see more details if I call them directly.

•Oh god, I hope that's not it! Let me double-check... *checks ESD account* No, the bank info is definitely correct. I already received my first payment to this same account a couple weeks ago.

A few things to consider: 1. ESD processes claims in batches. If your claim was processed at the end of a batch on Tuesday, the ACH transfer might not have initiated until Wednesday morning. 2. First payments sometimes undergo additional verification at both ESD and your bank's end. 3. If Monday was your first weekly claim filing, it's normal for payment to take 2-3 business days longer than subsequent payments. If your payment doesn't arrive by end of day Friday, I would recommend contacting ESD directly on Monday. You can also check your payment status in detail under the "Payment History" section of your ESD account - it should show the exact date the payment was processed.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! This is actually my second payment, but what you said about batches makes sense. I'll check the Payment History section - I didn't realize it would show the exact processing date. I'll give it until Friday before I panic.
