ESD payment delay this week - normally processed by Wednesday but still pending?

I'm getting a bit concerned about my weekly unemployment payment. I've been claiming every Sunday morning since October, and my payments have always been processed by Wednesday at the latest. It's now Thursday afternoon and my eServices account is still showing 'pending' with no explanation. Nothing has changed with my claim or work search activities (still doing my 3 per week). Has anyone else noticed delays with ESD processing claims this week? Is there some kind of system issue going on? Starting to stress since rent is due next week...

Glad I'm not the only one (though sorry you're dealing with it too). Did you get any notification or explanation for the delay?

There's typically a processing delay in the last week of each quarter as ESD updates their systems. Their fiscal quarter ends this week, so that's likely the cause. If you check the ESD website, they sometimes post system maintenance notices, though they're not great about communicating these routine delays. Payments should resume by Monday at the latest based on previous quarterly transitions.

This happens EVERY quarter and they never bother to tell anyone!! Like maybe put a banner on the website or send an email?? Some of us rely on that money being on time!!!

I called ESD this morning about this exact issue after my payment didn't process yesterday. The rep told me they're experiencing a higher than normal volume of claims this week due to seasonal layoffs in construction and some manufacturing, which has created a processing backlog. She confirmed all valid claims will still be paid, just with a 2-3 day delay. Nothing wrong with your claim - just a temporary slowdown.

Thanks for the update! How did you actually get through to someone? I've been calling the 800 number but keep getting the "call volume too high" message and it hangs up on me.

I used Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent without waiting. It's a service that basically navigates the phone system for you and calls you back when they have an agent on the line. Totally worth it when you need to speak to someone quickly. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me hours of frustration with the busy signals and hangups.

I'm experiencing the same delay, but mine just switched from pending to paid about an hour ago. Check your eServices account again - they seem to be working through the backlog. Also, for future reference, this happens occasionally when there's a federal holiday during the week (like President's Day on Monday), even though it doesn't seem like it would affect Wednesday processing.

Just checked and mine still shows pending, but that's encouraging that yours went through! Will keep checking throughout the day. And thanks for the holiday timing tip - I hadn't noticed that pattern before.

This isn't about processing delays... ESD is deliberately holding payments to force people into accepting low wage jobs!!! My brother-in-law works at WorkSource and told me they're instructed to delay payments randomly to "motivate" people. The quarterly update excuse is just what they tell us. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

That's completely incorrect. ESD is bound by strict federal guidelines for UI payment timelines, and intentional delays would violate those requirements. Processing delays are almost always due to technical issues, staffing limitations, or verification procedures - not some conspiracy to withhold benefits. Please don't spread misinformation that can cause unnecessary stress for claimants.

is there anything special we need to do for the job search requirement during these delays? i didnt submit my job contacts yet because i was waiting for the payment to process first

You should always submit your job search activities when you file your weekly claim, regardless of payment processing delays. The job search requirement is separate from payment processing. If you've already filed your weekly claim without adding job search activities, you need to update your claim immediately with those activities before it's considered late, which could affect your eligibility.
