Weekly claim stuck on 'processing' instead of 'paid' status - ESD payment delay?

I submitted my weekly unemployment claim on Sunday night around 9pm like I always do, but it's still showing 'processing' status. Normally by Tuesday morning it switches to 'paid' status, but nothing has changed. Is anyone else experiencing delays with their ESD payments this week? I'm starting to stress because rent is due Friday and I really need this payment to clear. Should I be worried or is the system just running slow this week?

That's somewhat comforting to know it's not just me. Have you tried calling ESD yet?

This happens occasionally. ESD sometimes has processing delays, especially near the beginning of financial quarters or after system updates. If it doesn't change to 'paid' by tomorrow, you might want to contact them. But I wouldn't panic yet - most likely your payment will just be a day or two later than usual.

This is actually happening to LOTS of people right now!! I'm in a FB group for WA unemployment and like half the people there are saying their claims from Sunday are still processing!! Someone said they called and ESD told them there was a system glitch they're working on. Should be fixed by Thursday they said.

When this happened to me it was because I answered one of the weekly questions differently than I usually do. Double check that you didn't accidentally say you turned down work or something. One wrong answer can trigger a review.

Oh crap, I did say I had a job interview! I didn't realize that could cause a delay. But I've reported interviews before without issues...

I've been on unemployment for 4 months and this happens at least once a month. The ESD system is GARBAGE. They'll blame it on "high volume" or "system maintenance" but really they just can't get their act together. Meanwhile we're all supposed to just wait and hope our bills don't bounce. It's ridiculous.

That's frustrating to hear it happens regularly. I'm only on month 2 of unemployment so still figuring out all the quirks of the system.

If your weekly claim stays in processing status for more than 3 business days, you should contact ESD directly. Their systems do occasionally experience delays, but it could also indicate that your claim was flagged for adjudication. This happens when something in your weekly claim answers triggers a review - like reporting a job interview, changing your availability, or reporting earnings differently. If you need to reach them quickly, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in a similar situation last month and spent days trying to get through on the phone. Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Thank you for the detailed advice. I'll give it one more day and then try contacting them. That Claimyr service sounds helpful - the few times I've tried calling ESD directly I couldn't get through at all.

Quick update - I just checked my account and my payment from Sunday just switched to 'paid' about an hour ago. Seems like they're just running behind this week. Might want to check yours again.

THANK YOU for the update! Just checked mine and it's switched to 'paid' too! What a relief. Looks like it was just a system delay after all.
