ESD payment delay for weekly claim - stuck in 'processing' for 48+ hours

Has anyone else noticed delays with ESD processing weekly claims lately? I filed my weekly claim on Monday as usual, but it's still stuck in 'processing' status after 48+ hours. Normally the money hits my account the next day. This is my final payment in my benefit year (I start a new job next week, thankfully), but I'm really counting on this money for rent. The ESD website just shows 'payment pending' with no explanation. Should I be worried? Is there something special about final payments that causes delays? Really stressing about this!

My last payment also took longer! I think ESD runs extra verification on final benefit payments in your claim year. Mine took about 4 days instead of the usual 1-2 days. Don't panic yet, but maybe try calling if it goes past Friday.

Thanks for letting me know! That's a relief to hear it might be normal. Did you have to do anything special to get it processed or did it just eventually go through on its own?

WEEKS?! I can't wait weeks! My rent is due on the 1st and I don't start my new job until the 7th. Did you call them when this happened to you?

What you're experiencing is likely an automatic verification hold. ESD often places final payments under additional review to prevent overpayments. Check your eServices account under "Notices/Letters" to see if there's a new correspondence explaining the delay. If nothing shows up there, I suggest calling ESD directly to inquire. Don't wait more than 3 business days if you need this payment urgently.

Thank you for the detailed info. I checked my Notices/Letters section and there's nothing new there. I'll try calling them tomorrow morning if it doesn't change status tonight.

I had the same thing happen last month. Spent 2 days calling non-stop and couldn't get through. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent told me they were doing extra verification on my final payment because I had reported starting a new job soon. They cleared it while I was on the phone and I got paid the next day.

That's exactly my situation! I'm going to check out that service if I can't get through on my own tomorrow. Did they give you any trouble about it being your final payment?

No trouble at all! The agent just verified my new employment details and confirmed my eligibility through my end date. The money showed up like normal after they removed the hold. Definitely worth getting through to a live person.

Its not unusual for final payments to undergo additional review. ESD implemented more verification steps in 2025 to reduce overpayments. Here's what normally happens: 1) System flags final payment when you report new employment 2) Payment goes into pending status 3) Automatic verification occurs (1-3 days) 4) If auto-verification succeeds, payment processes 5) If auto-verification flags anything, goes to manual review (additional 5-7 days) If you're approaching day 4 with no change, definitely call. The hold might be something simple they can clear over the phone.

This is super helpful! I'm on day 3 now so I'll definitely call tomorrow if it doesn't change. Do you know if there's a specific department I should ask for when I finally get through?

Ask for the Benefits Payment Review team if possible. They handle payment holds specifically. Otherwise, any claims specialist can look up why it's held and potentially release it if it's just waiting for simple verification.

Did you report starting a new job when you filed your last weekly claim? I made that mistake and it automatically triggered a review. The system thinks you might be double-dipping if you report new employment. Just wait it out - mine took 5 days instead of the usual 2 days but it did eventually process.

Yes! I did report that I'm starting a new job next week. That must be what's happening. I'm going to try calling tomorrow, but it's somewhat reassuring to know others have had this happen and eventually got paid.

I'm in the same boat right now! Filed on Sunday, still processing. Called 37 times yesterday and couldn't get through. This is so frustrating.

If you keep having trouble getting through on the phone, seriously try Claimyr. Saved me hours of redial frustration when I was dealing with my final payment issue.

Update us on what happens! It would be helpful for others to know if this is becoming a systematic issue with final payments in 2025. ESD sometimes implements new verification procedures without announcing them publicly.

Will do! I'll post back here once I get through to someone or if the payment processes on its own. Thanks everyone for the advice and sharing your experiences!
