ESD claim says 'processing-IVR' after filing by phone instead of usual 'processing web' - payment delay?

So I've always filed my weekly unemployment claims online for the past 6 months and immediately after submitting, it always shows 'processing web' in my account. Then like clockwork, I get paid by Wednesday. But I had internet problems yesterday and had to file by phone through the automated system for the first time, and now my claim status says 'processing- IVR' instead of the usual message. I'm freaking out a little because rent is due soon. Does this mean my payment will be delayed? Has anyone else filed by phone and knows what the normal timeline is? Thanks in advance!

dont worry about it IVR just stands for Interactive Voice Response which means you filed by phone. It'll process the same way your web claims did. The machine is just tracking how u filed.

Oh thank you! Have you filed by phone before? Will it still arrive by Wednesday like normal?

I've had to use the phone system several times when the website was down for maintenance. 'Processing-IVR' is completely normal when you file by phone (IVR stands for Interactive Voice Response). The processing time is exactly the same as filing online - the system just tags claims differently based on how they were submitted. Your payment should still arrive on your usual schedule as long as there weren't any issues with how you answered the questions. The voice system can be tricky with the timing of responses, so if you made any errors during the call, that could cause a delay, but just the IVR tag itself won't affect your payment timeline.

Thank you so much for explaining! I was really careful with my answers but the automated system is definitely awkward compared to the website. I miss being able to review everything before submitting. This puts my mind at ease!

I filed by phone once too and panicked when I saw that! But it processed normally, just got my deposit a day later than usual but I think that was more about the day I filed than the method. Don't stress about it!

When I filed by phone last year my payment was delayed THREE WEEKS and I almost got evicted!!! ESD claimed there was some 'flag' on my account that needed manual review but nobody would tell me why. Their system is BROKEN and phone claims get extra scrutiny. You should call them ASAP to make sure nothing is wrong with your claim!!!!!

That's actually not accurate. Phone claims don't receive extra scrutiny - they're processed identically to web claims once they enter the system. The delay you experienced was likely related to something else that coincidentally happened at the same time you filed by phone. The IVR tag is purely for tracking purposes and doesn't trigger additional reviews.

Now I'm confused... so should I call them or not? I've never had a problem with my claims before, but I'm worried about the rent deadline...

I had the exact same worry when I first used the phone system! The IVR tag just means 'Interactive Voice Response' and doesn't affect processing. But if you want peace of mind, try using Claimyr to get through to an ESD agent quickly. I wasted days trying to call directly before finding their service at claimyr.com - they got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent confirmed my payment was processing normally despite the different tag.

I work in workforce development and regularly assist clients with ESD issues. Here's the official explanation: IVR (Interactive Voice Response) is simply a tag that indicates the method used to file your claim. The processing timeframe is identical regardless of filing method. The only difference is that web claims get the 'processing web' tag and phone claims get the 'processing IVR' tag. Your payment should arrive on the same schedule as always. The system processes claims based on when they're received, not how they're submitted. If you filed on your regular day, expect payment on your regular day. The only exception would be if you answered a question in a way that triggered an eligibility review, but that would change the status to something other than 'processing IVR.'

Thank you for such a thorough explanation! This is really reassuring. I'll check tomorrow to see if the status changes to paid like it normally does.

Update: Just wanted to let everyone know my payment came through this morning! Same schedule as usual, just like you all said. Thanks for helping me not panic over nothing!

Great to hear! This is exactly what I'd expect. The processing tag is really just for ESD's internal tracking purposes. Filing method doesn't affect payment timing.
