We were in adjudication for FIVE MONTHS last year for a "able and available" issue because my wife had surgery right before our seasonal layoff. had to sell our second car just to make it thru. finally got all backpay but the stress nearly killed us my best advice: document EVERYTHING. dates times names of who u talk to. and keep filing weekly claims even while in adjudication. if u miss even 1 weekly claim during adjudication it can reset the whole thing ask me how i know lol
Based on all the comments and your situation, here's a summary action plan that might help: 1. Keep filing weekly claims without fail 2. Ask your employer to contact ESD to verify your employment status 3. Reference your previous claim/verification in secure messages 4. Consider the Claimyr service others mentioned to get through to an agent 5. Request hardship acceleration if you're 2-3 weeks in with no progress 6. Double-check that your ID documents are perfectly clear and complete 7. Look into emergency rental assistance programs as a backup plan Most importantly, the 10-week timeframe you experienced last year isn't the norm now. The system has improved significantly for identity verification cases. The current 3-4 week average should give you some hope.
I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above when I was in appeal limbo. Got through to ESD in about 1.5 hours instead of days of redialing. The agent I spoke with actually helped me understand exactly what documentation I needed for my appeal. Totally worth it.
UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning! The agent explained that I was disqualified because they needed verification of my work separation. Since I didn't respond to the February letter (which I never saw), they automatically disqualified me. She said I can either appeal OR submit the separation verification now through my eServices account. I'm going to try uploading my documentation today and see if that resolves it without needing a formal appeal. Will update again when I know more. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
OP be careful, lotta people giving advice here but at-will means AT-WILL!! they can fire you for almost any reason as long as they dont say its cuz ur pregnant. Happened to my cousin!! She told them she was pregnant and 2 weeks later they fired her for "performance issues" that never existed before. ESD denied her too saying she was fired for cause!!!
While this can happen, it's important to note that if the timing is suspicious (like being fired shortly after announcing pregnancy with no prior documented issues), you can appeal the ESD decision and potentially win. Also, Washington State has stronger protections than some other states. But your point about documentation is absolutely crucial - always keep records of performance feedback.
Thank you everyone for all the advice! I think I'm going to: 1. Start the job and document EVERYTHING from day one 2. Wait until I'm about 5 months along (so 3-4 weeks into the job) 3. Tell HR first with a written plan for my leave 4. Hope for the best but be prepared with documentation if things go badly It's such a relief to know I'd likely qualify for ESD benefits again if the worst happens. I'll definitely update this thread once I've had the conversation with them. Wish me luck!
Hey so random question but are you on standby status or regular unemployment? Because standby claims are supposed to be processed faster than regular ones. When I was on standby last year it only took 2 weeks to get my first payment even though regular UI was taking forever for everyone else
Just checking in - did you have any luck getting through to ESD? I've been thinking about your situation with the utilities and kids.
I actually tried that Claimyr service and got through to ESD yesterday! The agent put a hardship flag on my account like someone here suggested. They said I should see movement within 48-72 hours because of the utility shutoff risk. Also called my utility company and they gave me a 2-week extension. Feeling much more hopeful now. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!!

One time my payment went to my old address even though I updated my info. Maybe double check your contact info is current?

•That would only matter if they were getting a paper check. For KeyBank card deposits, the address doesn't affect fund transfers.

Just to add a bit more info - ESD and KeyBank operate as separate entities. Once ESD shows "paid," the transaction is in KeyBank's hands. You can actually call KeyBank's unemployment debit card customer service directly at 1-866-295-2955 to check pending deposits. Sometimes they can see pending transfers before they're fully processed.
