IVR weekly claim stuck on 'processing' - normally get paid Wednesdays

I've been claiming unemployment since February without any issues, but something weird is happening this week. I normally file online and get paid every Wednesday like clockwork, but this past Sunday I was running errands and remembered I needed to file my weekly claim, so I used the phone system (IVR) instead. It's now Wednesday and my claim still shows 'ivr-processing' status in the system. My benefits aren't exhausted - I should have plenty left. Has anyone else had their payment delayed after using the phone system instead of filing online? I'm getting worried since my rent is due next week and I count on these payments.

same thing happened to me last month!! the phone system is garbage, took THREE extra days to process my payment when i used it. ur payment will probably hit friday instead of wednesday

The IVR system is slower than the online system. I've used both and there's always a 1-2 day delay when using the phone. Their system probably batches the phone claims separately or something. Give it until Friday before worrying too much.

This is actually a common issue with IVR claims. The phone system processes on a different schedule than the online system. When you file online, it goes directly into their main processing queue, but phone claims go through a verification step first where they make sure the voice responses match what's expected. If anything was unclear in your phone responses, it could take extra time while they manually review it. If it doesn't change status by Friday, then you might want to contact ESD to check if there's a problem.

Not always true. My brother used IVR last month and got paid SAME DAY as usual. I think it depends on what time u file and if the system is glitchy that day. ESD is so inconsistent!!!

I had the EXACT same problem last year when I filed by phone once. My payment was delayed by 3 days and I was FREAKING OUT. Never again! The ESD phone systems are from like 1995 or something. Online filing is the only way to go if you want reliable payment timing. I bet you'll get paid Friday.

If you need to reach ESD to check on your claim status, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation with a delayed payment and spent days trying to get through on the regular ESD line with no luck. Claimyr got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 25 minutes who could see that my claim needed a manual push through their system. I've never heard of this service before. I'll give it until Friday morning, but if my payment still shows processing, I might try this. Getting through to ESD has been nearly impossible in the past.

There's actually a technical reason for this. The IVR system (Interactive Voice Response) sends your claim data to a different verification queue than the online system. When you file online, the system can automatically verify certain elements, but phone claims require additional processing time because the voice recognition system isn't as accurate. This is especially true if you hesitated on any questions or if background noise interfered with your responses. If you check your claim status online, does it show any issues or just the 'processing' status? If there are no identified issues, it's likely just the normal delay from using the phone system. As others have said, expect payment on Friday instead of Wednesday this week.

It literally just says 'ivr-processing' with no other information. No alerts or issues showing up. Thanks for explaining the technical side - I had no idea the phone system was so much more complicated on their end.
