ESD weekly claim shows 'needed' online after using phone system - stuck in limbo?
I'm totally confused about my weekly claim status right now. Last week I filed my unemployment claim through the automated phone system (like I've been doing for the past month) but when I logged into my eServices account today, it's showing that I still need to submit my weekly report! Has the system not processed my phone claim? Am I supposed to file again online now or would that mess things up even more? The last thing I want is to get flagged for trying to claim twice. Anyone else had this happen? How long does it usually take for the phone system to update the online status? Getting seriously stressed about this because I can't afford to miss a payment right now.

•Oh no, that's what I'm afraid of! Did you have to call them to fix it or did you just have to refile online?

The phone system and the eServices website can take up to 48 hours to sync with each other. When did you file by phone? If it's been less than two business days, I'd wait before doing anything. If it's been longer, there might be an issue with your claim that requires attention. Log into eServices and check if there are any alerts or messages in your inbox that might explain the discrepancy.

•I filed on Sunday night (around 8pm) and it's now Wednesday afternoon. So it's been more than 48 hours and still showing as needed. I checked my inbox and there's nothing there. Should I try calling ESD directly?

•This is incorrect advice. DO NOT file twice for the same week. This can trigger an investigation for attempted fraud and delay your benefits for weeks or months. If your claim isn't showing as processed after 48 hours, there's likely a system issue or a problem with your claim that needs to be addressed by an ESD agent.

I had this EXACT problem in January. The phone system is glitchy and sometimes doesn't properly connect with the main ESD database. You NEED to talk to an actual ESD agent to get this fixed, but good luck getting through. I spent 3 days trying to reach someone before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an agent in less than 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent had to manually enter my phone claim into the system. Once they did that, my payment processed the next day.

•Thank you so much for the suggestion! I'll check out that service. Did they explain why the phone system glitched? I'm wondering if I should just stop using it altogether.

This happened to me TWO TIMES last year! The ESD system is so incredibly broken. One time they actually canceled my entire claim and I had to start all over again. I lost 3 weeks of benefits while they "reviewed" my new claim. The whole thing is a disaster and they don't care at all about us!!!

Here's what's likely happening: The phone system sometimes fails to fully process claims with certain types of work search activities or special circumstances. When you file by phone, you're limited in how much information you can provide compared to filing online. Your options now are: 1. Contact ESD directly to confirm if your claim was received and ask them to manually update your status 2. Wait until your next claiming period (if it's close) and see if the system resolves itself 3. DO NOT file a duplicate claim online - this can cause serious problems For future weeks, I strongly recommend filing through eServices rather than the phone system. The phone system was primarily designed as a backup option, not as the primary filing method.

•Thanks for this detailed explanation! I'll definitely switch to filing online from now on. I was just using the phone because it seemed faster. Clearly not worth the headache! I'll try calling ESD today.

Quick update - I talked to the ESD agent who helped me with this same issue and she explained that the phone system sometimes fails to record your job search activities properly. When that happens, your claim gets stuck in a weird limbo where it's partially processed but not fully submitted. The only solution is having an agent manually fix it. And yes, definitely use the eServices website from now on!

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD after a 2-hour wait! The agent confirmed my weekly claim WAS received through the phone system but got stuck in processing because of a "system flag" related to my job search activities. She manually reviewed and processed my claim while I was on the phone. She said my payment should arrive in 2-3 business days. Also confirmed I should definitely use the website for future claims to avoid this issue. Thanks everyone for your help!

•That's great news! Glad you got it resolved. This is a common issue that many claimants encounter. The phone system works well for basic claims but struggles with any complexity. For anyone reading this in the future - the eServices website is almost always the better option for filing weekly claims.
