Confusion: filed weekly claim by phone but ESD portal shows I need to file again?
I'm completely confused about my weekly claim status. Yesterday I spent like 40 minutes filing my weekly claim by phone (those automated prompts are sooo tedious!) and everything seemed to go fine. Got the confirmation number and everything. But today when I logged into the ESD online portal, it's still showing that I have a weekly claim to file! 🤷🏼♀️ Does this mean my phone claim didn't go through properly? Should I file again online or would that mess things up and count as filing twice? Has anyone dealt with this weird glitch before? The last thing I want is to get flagged for some kind of fraud issue when I'm just trying to do this right!

I had this EXACT same issue last month! The system can take 24-48 hours to update sometimes. DON'T file again online or you might create duplicate claims which will definitely trigger a review. If you got a confirmation number when filing by phone, you're good. Just screenshot everything and save that confirmation number somewhere safe in case they ever question it.

•Thank you! That's a relief. I was about to panic and file again. I'll wait a couple days then. Do you remember how long it took for your portal to update?

The ESD system is notorious for these kinds of synchronization issues between the phone system and the online portal. If you received a confirmation number when filing by phone, that's your proof that the claim was submitted successfully. The online portal typically updates within 48 hours, but sometimes it can take up to 72 hours, especially if you filed on a Friday afternoon or weekend. If you're really concerned, you could call the claims center to verify your claim was received, but honestly, that might be more hassle than it's worth given how difficult it is to get through. Just save that confirmation number as suggested above!

•If you need to contact ESD to verify your claim went through and can't get through on the phone lines, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation last month with a payment issue and couldn't get through for days. Claimyr connected me to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for over a week on my own. Worth checking out their video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 to see how it works.

•Yes, in Washington state, you need to file a weekly claim every week you want to receive benefits. If you've only been filing every two weeks, you've likely missed payments for the weeks you didn't file. You should contact ESD immediately to discuss this situation.

Don't worry too much about the system lag. This is actually COMPLETELY NORMAL and happens ALL THE TIME with ESD's outdated systems!!! The phone system and online portal don't sync in real-time. As long as you have that confirmation number, you're protected. One tip for the future - I personally prefer filing online because it gives you a printable confirmation page right away. The phone system is more prone to these confusing lag issues where the status doesn't update promptly. Just NEVER file the same week twice through different methods - that's the fastest way to get your account flagged for review and potentially delay payments for weeks!

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I usually file online too, but my internet was acting up yesterday so I went with the phone option. Definitely going back to online filing next week. This is stressful enough without these weird system issues!

I used to work in IT and these government systems are running on technology from like 30 years ago. The phone system and web portal are probably completely separate systems that only sync data once a day through some overnight batch process. That's why there's always a delay. They desperately need to upgrade their infrastructure but that would require adequate funding and political will... so here we are. Just be patient and your claim status should update soon.

•That's a separate issue from what OP is asking about. You should probably create your own post about payment delays.

UPDATE: You guys were right! I checked the portal this morning (about 36 hours after filing by phone) and now it shows my claim was processed correctly. The status finally updated and no longer shows I need to file. Thanks everyone for preventing me from filing twice and causing problems for myself!

•Glad to hear it worked out! This is a common issue that causes a lot of unnecessary stress for claimants. Thanks for coming back to update - it helps others who might encounter the same situation.

This is such a common source of anxiety for new claimants! I remember my first few weeks dealing with ESD and panicking over every little system quirk. The key thing to remember is that these legacy government systems just aren't built for real-time updates like we're used to with modern apps. For anyone else reading this - always keep those confirmation numbers from phone filings! I screenshot them or write them down with the date/time. It's saved me from stress multiple times when the portal was being slow to update. The system works, it's just... vintage 😅 Great job coming back with the update too - it really helps the community when people follow up on resolved issues!
