Weekly claim phone system glitch - kept hanging up after fraud acknowledgment
I'm beyond frustrated trying to file my weekly claim by phone today. Called ESD's automated system and everything seemed normal until I got to the part about understanding misrepresentation is fraud. When prompted to 'Press 1 if you understand,' I pressed 1, then the system said something like 'if you want to file your claim you need to be honest' and HUNG UP on me! Called back and tried again, got to the same point, pressed 1 again, but this time the system just repeated the fraud warning. I kept smashing 1 repeatedly until it finally moved on to the claim questions. Even then, I had to press each number multiple times (1 or 9) for my answers to register. The system seemed super glitchy today. Has anyone else experienced this? Did my claim actually go through or do I need to try again tomorrow? I'm worried about missing my filing deadline.

The same exact thing happened to me last week! I thought my phone was broken. Had to press each button like 4-5 times for it to register. For me it did eventually go through - I could tell because I got the confirmation number at the end. Did you get a confirmation number when you finished?

•No, that's what's freaking me out! The call just ended after I answered the last question about being able/available for work. No confirmation number or anything. Should I try filing online instead or call back tomorrow?

•I usually do file online but my internet is down right now - that's why I tried phone. I'll try to use my neighbor's wifi tomorrow if my claim didn't go through.

This sounds like an issue with the phone system's voice recognition or DTMF tone detection. If you didn't receive a confirmation number, your claim most likely wasn't processed completely. You should definitely try again, either by phone or online. If filing by phone tomorrow, try these tips: - Use a landline if possible (clearer signal) - Press buttons firmly but don't hold them down - Wait for the full prompt before responding - Call during off-peak hours (early morning or evening) You have until Saturday to file your weekly claim for the previous week, so you still have time.

•Thank you for the detailed advice! I don't have a landline but will try again tomorrow morning before the call volume gets high. Good to know I still have until Saturday - that takes some pressure off.

I HATE THE ESD PHONE SYSTEM!!! Been on unemployment since January and it hangs up on me at least once a week. Sometimes I press 1 and it thinks I pressed 7 or something?? THE WORST PART is when you finally get through all the questions and then it says "Sorry we cannot process your claim at this time" and you wasted 15 minutes for NOTHING!!! 😡

•That sounds incredibly frustrating. The phone system definitely has issues, but typically if you received that error message at the end, it means there's a flag on your claim that requires agent assistance. When this happens, you should try to speak with an ESD representative directly to resolve whatever is blocking your claim from processing automatically.

I had major issues trying to reach someone at ESD when my claim was stuck in adjudication. After weeks of failing to get through, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually reach a live agent. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 It made a huge difference for me - I was able to explain my phone system issues and they helped make sure my weekly claims were properly filed while they fixed the technical problem on their end. Might be worth checking out if you keep having these phone system problems.

Quick update regarding the ESD phone system: They recently updated their IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system in April 2025, and there have been reported technical issues since the update. ESD is aware of these problems and is working to resolve them. In the meantime: 1. Check your eServices account tomorrow - even if you didn't get a confirmation number, sometimes the claim does process correctly 2. If your claim doesn't show as processed by tomorrow afternoon, you should try filing again 3. If you continue experiencing issues, document the dates/times you attempted to file to demonstrate good faith effort in case your claim is late The system should stabilize within the next few weeks, but the technical glitches have been frustrating for many claimants.

•Thank you so much for this information! I didn't realize they'd updated the system recently. That explains a lot. I'll check my eServices account tomorrow and see if the claim went through despite not getting a confirmation number.

•I was using the keypad the whole time, not voice responses. That's why it was so weird - I'd press 1 and it would either hang up or not register at all. Had to keep pressing repeatedly.

Just wanted to follow up - did you check your eServices account? Did the claim go through?

•Yes! Just checked and surprisingly the claim DID process correctly despite never getting a confirmation number. What a relief! My payment is pending for this Thursday. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

That's great news that your claim went through! I had a similar experience last week where the system was acting up but my claim still processed without a confirmation number. It's definitely concerning when the phone system is so unreliable - makes you wonder how many people might give up thinking their claim didn't go through when it actually did. Thanks for updating us on the outcome, it's helpful to know that sometimes the system works even when it seems broken!

•Exactly! I was ready to panic thinking I'd miss my filing deadline, but it's reassuring to know the claim can still go through even when the system seems completely broken. I wonder how many people do give up or file multiple times thinking it didn't work. Hopefully they get these phone system issues sorted out soon - it shouldn't be this stressful just to file a weekly claim!
