ESD weekly claim phone system hangs up after fraud question - will payments still arrive tomorrow?

Is anyone else having trouble filing their weekly claim by phone? I keep trying to file using the automated system and get as far as the fraud question, then it plays some message and just says 'goodbye' before hanging up on me! I've tried 4 times today with the same result. Also, I usually file on Mondays and my payment shows up Tuesday. Does anyone know how late in the day I can successfully file today and still get my payment deposited tomorrow? Getting desperate here since rent is due soon and my landlord isn't exactly understanding about late payments.

I had the exact same problem two weeks ago! The phone system kept hanging up on me right after that fraud question. I ended up using the online eServices portal to file instead - took me like 5 minutes once I logged in. As for your payment timing question, I believe as long as you file before 4pm today, you should still get your payment tomorrow. After that, it might get delayed by a day.

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I can't use eServices because I forgot my password and when I tried to reset it, my security questions weren't working. So I'm stuck with the phone system for now. I'll keep trying and make sure I get it done before 4pm today.

Yeah it's really frustrating! This is my 3rd week dealing with this and it seems to get worse every time.

This is a known issue with the phone system that ESD has been working to fix. The problem typically happens when there's high call volume on Mondays. Here's what I recommend: 1. Try filing later in the evening when call volume is lower (after 7 PM) 2. Make sure you're calling from the phone number registered in your account 3. Answer questions clearly and pause between responses 4. If it still doesn't work, you have until 11:59 PM on Monday to file and still get paid on Tuesday If you continue having issues, you might want to contact ESD directly to resolve your eServices password issues so you can file online, which is much more reliable.

Thank you so much for these tips! I'll definitely try again this evening. And yes, I really need to get my eServices account working again. I've been putting it off because I hate dealing with customer service, but it sounds like it's worth the hassle.

I've been filing by phone for the past 6 months and ran into this exact issue twice. I found a solution that worked for me - call from a different phone. For some reason, when I called from my husband's cell instead of mine, the system processed my claim completely. Something about the connection quality or how the system recognizes certain phones. Regarding payment timing - I've filed as late as 8pm and still received payment the next day. However, ESD's official guidance is to file before 4pm to guarantee next-day processing. Hope this helps!

That's a really interesting workaround! I'll try using my roommate's phone next time. And good to know about the 8pm cutoff - gives me a bit more breathing room. Thank you!

I've found that if you're having issues with the phone system, reaching an actual ESD agent is nearly impossible with their regular line. After spending 3 weeks trying, I discovered a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an ESD representative in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to file my weekly claim over the phone for me AND fix my eServices account so I could file online going forward. Totally worth it after all the frustration with the automated system.

I think there might be a glitch in the unemployment phone system right now. My brother had the same issue yesterday, and when he finally got through to someone at ESD (took him 2 days of calling), they said they're aware of the problem and working on it. Something about the fraud question triggering an error in their updated system. Annoying, but at least it's not just you!

Just wanted to update - I checked with my neighbor who works for ESD (not in claims processing, but still has some insider info). She confirmed that payments filed anytime on Monday should process overnight and arrive Tuesday. The 4pm cutoff is actually for same-day processing, not next-day. So you should be fine as long as you get it done today!

Oh that's such a relief! Thank you for checking. I'm still trying the phone system but knowing I have until the end of the day takes some pressure off.

UPDATE: ESD just posted on their website that they're experiencing technical difficulties with the phone claim system today. They recommend using eServices if possible, but also stated that anyone who attempts to file by phone today but encounters errors will still have their claims processed on time as long as they successfully file by Wednesday. They're also temporarily waiving the Monday filing deadline due to these issues.

That's actually really good news! I'll keep trying today but it's nice to know they're acknowledging the problem and not penalizing us for their system issues. Thanks for sharing this update!
