Is anyone else having random filing issues with NY unemployment this month?
So I've been trying to file my weekly claim since Tuesday and the system keeps giving me different errors each time. First it said my SSN didn't match their records (which is crazy because I've been claiming for 3 months without issues). Then yesterday it let me get all the way through the questions but crashed at submission. Today the website keeps timing out completely. Meanwhile my roommate filed on Monday with zero problems and got her payment already. Checked Facebook groups and seems like some people are sailing through while others are completely stuck like me. Anyone else experiencing this random glitchiness? Is there any pattern to who's having trouble? I've tried different browsers, cleared cache, even used my phone instead. Nothing works! My rent is due next week and I'm getting seriously worried.

YES! Same exact thing. My claim worked fine for like 4 months straight then suddenly last week the system started giving me that "we cannot process your claim at this time" message. I called probably 50 times and couldn't get through to anyone. Then somehow yesterday it just...worked? No explanation. My neighbor had zero issues this whole time. The unemployment system is total garbage!

•Did you do anything different when it finally worked? I'm desperate to try anything at this point.

•Honestly no. It just randomly decided to work. I tried at like 5:30am thinking maybe the system was less busy but idk if that made any difference.

•The early morning thing actually worked for me too! I got in at 6:15am when I couldn't for days during normal hours.

After weeks of trying to get through the broken NY unemployment system, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a real person on the phone! Best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid. They have this system where they wait on hold for you and then call you when an agent picks up. Saved me hours of frustration and my claim got fixed in one call. They also have this explainer video that helped me understand how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried every trick in the book to get through

•Totally worked for me! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for 3 weeks. Got connected to an agent within an hour and they fixed everything.

•I get the skepticism, I felt the same way. But talking to a human agent solved my problem in 10 mins after weeks of website errors. Just sharing what worked for me 🤷♂️

•Just checked it out - seems like they just dial for you and connect when someone answers? Might try this since I've wasted hours on hold already

I work in IT and I think what's happening is they're doing rolling updates to their system but not announcing it. That explains why some people can get through while others can't - depends what server you get routed to. Try clearing your cache completely, using incognito mode, and filing during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening). Also make sure you're not using any VPN.

Dude its completley random who can file and who cant. I havent had any issues but my wife who has literally the EXACT same claim type gets errors every week. Same computer, same wifi, same everything. Even when she logs in through my account (we both knwo each others info) her SSN still gets errors. Makes ZERO sense 💯

•I've seen this happen to couples too! My brother and his wife are in the same situation - she can file no problem, he gets errors. Same house, same internet. System is broken AF

•Yep. I think they have different ppl assigned to different case workers or something behind the scenes. Some are just more competent than others lol

LISTEN UP EVERYONE - here's what's actually happening with NY unemployment right now. I have a friend who works there (not giving details for obvious reasons). Their system is overwhelmed because they're trying to implement new anti-fraud measures while simultaneously upgrading parts of their ancient computer system. Some accounts get flagged randomly for extra verification which is why some people sail through while others get blocked. Your best options are: 1) Try filing during off-hours (before 7am or after 7pm) 2) Use a completely different device if possible 3) If you're still stuck after 3 tries, you NEED to talk to a human agent The phone system is deliberately understaffed - they don't have enough agents. That's why so many people have success with claimyr.com - it just keeps dialing until it gets through the understaffed phone lines. If you're getting the SSN error specifically, that means your account is flagged for verification and ONLY a human agent can fix it. The website will never work until they clear the flag. Hope this helps someone. The system sucks but knowing what's happening helps navigate it.

•This is the most helpful explanation I've seen anywhere. Thank you for sharing this insider info!

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! Looks like I definitely need to talk to a human then since I'm getting the SSN error. Will try that Claimyr service.

I wonder if it has anything to do with what industry you worked in? I was in hospitality and have had zero problems filing. My boyfriend was in tech and can't get through at all.

•Interesting theory! I was in retail and haven't had issues, but my sister works in healthcare and can't file at all.

•I'm in construction and can't file for sh*t, but my roommate (also construction) has no problems. So I don't think it's industry related.

Anyone else notice that the site works better on certain days? Mondays are ALWAYS a disaster for me, but Wednesdays seem to work fine. Maybe try different days if you're getting errors?

•OMG yes! Tuesdays and Thursdays are my lucky days. Monday is a complete nightmare every single time.

Just a heads up - I spoke to an agent yesterday (finally got through after 2 hours) and they said they're aware of the random errors and are working on fixing them. They told me it should be resolved by next week. Take that with a grain of salt tho, we've all heard that before 🤡

•"Should be resolved by next week" - the official motto of NY unemployment for the past 3 years lmaooo

•I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. claimyr.com - they got me through in about 45 minutes.

•There's an app?! Where have I been?? Is it in the app store?

•yeah just search for NY unemployment in the app store. works WAY better than their garbage website

•App still gives me the same errors as the website. It's just a wrapper around the same broken system.

I've been on unemployment for 6 weeks and here's my experience: first 2 weeks = no problems, weeks 3-4 = constant errors, week 5 = no problems, this week = can't file at all. Absolutely no rhyme or reason to it. NY unemployment system is run by drunk monkeys I swear.

fun fact that might help: if you get an error on the website, try calling the automated phone filing system instead (1-888-581-5812). I couldn't file online for 3 weeks but the phone system worked every time.

•THIS!!! The automated phone system saved me too! Old tech sometimes works better than their fancy broken website.

•I tried the automated system and it kept saying my pin was invalid even though I'm 100% sure it's correct 😩

•You might need to reset your PIN. There should be an option for that when you call. Or you need to talk to a human to unlock your account.

Not sure if this is related but I noticed my claim started having issues right after I changed my direct deposit info. Anyone else experience something similar? Maybe certain account changes trigger extra verification?

•YES! Same thing happened to me after I updated my address! Then I had to verify my identity all over again.

am i the only one who thinks its weird that they havent put out any official announcement about these issues? like acknowledge the problem at least??

•Classic NY unemployment - complete silence while thousands struggle. Their communication has always been terrible.

•Fr tho. A simple 'we're aware of issues and working on it' would go a long way.

Does anyone have a clue why my boyfriend and I filed at literally the same time, sitting next to each other, and his went through fine but mine gave the "we cannot verify your information" error? We both have standard unemployment, both worked full-time, both have been claiming for about the same amount of time. Makes zero sense!

I work in government (not unemployment) and can tell you most state systems are absolute dinosaurs running on ancient code. What's probably happening is they're trying to patch security issues but breaking functionality in the process. The randomness is likely because different user accounts are stored in different database clusters. Just keep trying and eventually you'll hit a working server.

•This is actually fascinating. Never thought about different users being on different servers, but it explains the randomness!

for everyone struggling with the website, I FINALLY got through by using Microsoft Edge browser (of all things) after Chrome and Firefox both failed me for weeks. might be worth a try 🤷♀️

This might sound crazy but has anyone tried using a different wifi network? I couldn't file at home for weeks, then tried at Starbucks and it worked immediately. Now I wonder if certain IP ranges are getting blocked or throttled.

Hate to be that person, but I think some accounts are just permanently messed up in their system. I had to create a whole new account after 2 months of errors. Lost some payments in the process but at least I can file now.

Douglas Foster
•How did you create a new account? Wouldn't that mess up your claim history and everything?
0 coins
Asher Levin
•You have to call and speak with a supervisor - only they can create a new account that links to your old claim. Took me forever to get someone who knew how to do this though.
