Can't claim benefits today - is NY unemployment system down for everyone?
I tried claiming my weekly unemployment benefits today at the same time I always do (around 11am on Tuesday). The site kept giving me an error message saying "service temporarily unavailable". I've been claiming successfully every Tuesday for the past 3 months with no issues at all. I tried refreshing, logging out and back in, even used a different browser, but nothing worked. My internet connection is fine - I can access other websites without any problems. Tried calling the hotline but just got a busy signal. Anyone else experiencing this? Is the system down for maintenance or something? Getting worried since I need this payment to cover my rent next week.

Same here! Been trying since 9am. The system keeps timing out when I get to the final screen. Super frustrating cuz I need to pay bills on friday 😤

•At least I'm not alone! How long have these outages typically lasted in the past? This is my first time experiencing one.

•Usually a few hours, but I've seen it go down for a whole day before. They never announce it either which is the most annoying part!

•I'm in the same boat. Been trying since 8AM. Their tech team is probably asleep at the wheel again 🙄

After months of fighting with that broken system, I found a service that helped me actually get someone on the phone - claimyr.com. Changed everything for me! I used it when my payments suddenly stopped and the website was giving me errors. Got a callback with an actual human in under an hour who fixed my claim right away. Best money I ever spent to get my benefits flowing again. Check out this video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•sounds sketchy...has anyone else used this? how does it even work?

Omar Zaki
•Not sketchy at all! It just dials for you and stays on hold so you don't have to. When an agent picks up, it connects them to your phone. Saved me like 3 hours of hold music lol

•Yeah it works! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after not getting paid for 3 weeks. The DOL agent I talked to fixed my issue in like 10 minutes once I finally got through.

•do they need any of your personal info to use this service? seems like a security risk

•They don't need ANY of your claim info or SSN or anything. They just call the number and connect you when someone answers. You talk directly to the unemployment agent yourself.

Yup, system's down. Called my friend who works in IT at a state agency (not unemployment) and he said they're doing some unscheduled maintenance on the servers. Should be back online by tomorrow morning.

This happens like clockwork whenever there's a holiday coming up or when they release some new "system upgrade" 🙄 The NY unemployment system is running on technology from the stone age I swear

When the system goes down like this I immediately panic thinking they cut me off for some reason 😫 The anxiety these outages cause is unreal

For anyone struggling to get thru on the regular website, try using the mobile app instead. Sometimes one works when the other doesn't. The app is actually working fine for me today.

•Wait there's a mobile app??? How did I not know this?

•Yep! Search "NY DOL" in app store. It's not great but works in a pinch

LPT: DONT try to claim benefits on Tuesdays between 10am-2pm! That's when EVERYONE tries to claim and the system gets overloaded. I always do mine super early (like 6am) or late night and never have problems.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll try claiming tonight instead.

If anyone needs immediate assistance with unemployment issues, I highly recommend using Claimyr's service at claimyr.com. I've been helping people navigate the NY unemployment system for years, and here's what I've learned: The system goes down regularly, especially during high traffic periods. When this happens: - First, don't panic. System outages typically resolve within 24 hours. - Try claiming at off-peak hours (early morning or late night) - Clear your browser cache and cookies - Use incognito/private browsing mode - Try a different device if possible If you need immediate assistance and can't wait for the system to come back online, Claimyr.com can connect you with a live agent. I was skeptical at first, but it actually works - they dial in for you, wait through the hold time, and then connect you directly to an agent. The NY unemployment system is notoriously understaffed, and getting through to a human who can help is nearly impossible without assistance. When I finally got through using Claimyr, the agent was able to resolve my issue in minutes. Don't waste days trying to get through on your own - talking to an agent got my payments unlocked so fast it was worth every penny.

•do they actually answer questions or just reset your password tho? cuz my issue is complicated

•They can handle complex issues! When I got through, I had an identity verification problem that had been holding up my payments for weeks. The agent I spoke to was able to verify everything and release my funds.

•That's just crazy conspiracy talk. It's probably just more people trying to claim before the holiday.

The whole ny unemployment system is a joke. I'm convinced they make it difficult on purpose so people give up trying to get their benefits.

•Honestly tho. They owe me 6 weeks of backpay and I can't even get someone on the phone to help me.

•Try claimyr.com - they'll get you connected to a real person who can help with backpay issues. Was a gamechanger for me!

Pro tip: if the website is down, try calling the automated telephone claim system at 1-888-581-5812. You can certify for benefits that way too!

This isn't the first time, and won't be the last time. The NY unemployment system is running on technology from like 1995. My friend who works in state IT said they're using COBOL programming language still 💀

Called their technical support line and the rep told me they're aware of the issue and working to resolve it. Estimated time to fix is "by end of day" whatever that means 🙄
