Is ny unemployment phone system broken? Can't claim benefits - wrong pin error and website won't load

So frustrated right now. Been trying to claim my weekly benefits since Thursday but keep hitting walls. When I call the automated system, it tells me my PIN is incorrect even though I KNOW it's right (I've been using the same one for 3 months without issues). Then I figured I'd just use the website but it won't even load properly on Chrome, Firefox, or Edge! Just gives me a blank screen or error message after I login. I've cleared cookies, tried incognito mode, even borrowed my roommate's laptop - nothing works. Anyone else experiencing this right now? Is the whole ny system down or something? I need to get my claim in before Sunday deadline or I'm screwed on rent next month.

Yep, same issue here. The system is totally busted this week. I couldn't claim online OR by phone since Wednesday. Called about 20 times and got different errors each time - wrong pin, service unavailable, or just random disconnects. Feels like they don't want us to get paid 🤔

I haven't yet! Still trying different times of day. Heard early morning (like 7:30am) might be less congested but no luck so far

I've herd the systems go down for maintenance every Thursday night. Maybe try tommorow morning?

After weeks of trying to get through to ny unemployment with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got a real agent on the phone for me! They handled the calls and waiting, then connected me directly to an agent who fixed my PIN issue in like 5 minutes. It was the only way I could talk to a live person after trying for days. They have this cool video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - talking to an agent got my benefits unlocked so fast.

wait this sounds too good to be true... does this actually work? I'm so tired of being on hold 😭

Yeah it worked for me! They basically just call for you and stay on hold so you don't have to. When an agent picks up, they connect you. Saved me hours of listening to that terrible hold music.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol... but if it actually works I might try it

I was super skeptical too but honestly it was worth it since I was about to miss rent. My issue was simple but I just couldn't get through to anyone to fix it.

hold up - is this actually legit or just another unemployment 'hack'? I've tried everything at this point

It's a real service that calls for you. Saved me like 3 hours of hold time. All they do is connect you with a rep when one answers.

The whole system is trash right now. I think they're having major technical issues this week. My friend who works in IT says they prolly rolled out a bad update or something. I got around the website issue by using Internet Explorer (lol ancient I know) but the phone system is still rejecting my pin. Keep trying different browsers maybe?

Have you tried resetting your PIN? Sometimes the system glitches and resets people's PINs without telling them. Go to the website (if you can get it to load) and click on 'Forgot PIN'. Otherwise, you might need to call the tech support line instead of the regular claims line. The number is different and sometimes less busy.

I tried that but the reset PIN feature also gives an error! It's like everything is broken at once

Ugh that sucks. What about trying to use your phone's browser instead of computer? Sometimes the mobile version works when desktop doesn't

I've been dealing with this exact problem for the past two weeks. Here's what finally worked for me: FIRST - Try claiming very early in the morning (like 6am) or late at night (after 10pm) when the system has less traffic. The website tends to work better during these off-peak hours. SECOND - If your PIN isn't working by phone, don't keep trying the same one or you might get locked out. I had to speak with an actual person to reset mine because something got corrupted in their system. THIRD - If you absolutely need to talk to someone, use Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was skeptical but it actually worked - they call on your behalf and stay on hold, then connect you to an agent when they pick up. Saved me hours of frustration and the agent fixed my PIN issue right away. FOURTH - Document everything! Write down dates, times, error messages, and the names of anyone you speak with. If your payment gets delayed because of their technical issues, you can request backpay. The NY unemployment system is incredibly overwhelmed right now. I heard they're running on outdated infrastructure that keeps crashing. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for this detailed answer!! Will definitely try the off-peak hours thing tonight. If that doesn't work I might have to try that Claimyr thing. Did they ask for any weird personal info to use it?

No problem! They just need your phone number to connect the call to you when an agent answers. That's it. Hope it works out!

I can vouch for the early morning thing. Logged in at 5:45am yesterday and the site worked perfectly. But during normal hours? Total garbage. 🤮

This happened to me last month! If you have a friend or family who can let you use their computer on a completely different internet connection, try that. For some reason my account was being blocked from my home IP address. Had to go to my sister's house to file my claim.

Classic NY unemployment... system always breaks when people need it most. 🙄 I'd call your state rep's office and complain. Sometimes they can escalate your issue directly to someone at NYSDOL who can help you. Worth a shot if nothing else works.

THIS!! My assemblyman's office got my issue fixed in 2 days after I struggled for weeks. They have special contacts at the dol

Don't panic about the Sunday deadline. Even if you can't certify on time because of THEIR system errors, you can request backdate certification. You'll need to talk to an agent to do it, but they can't deny your benefits just because their system wasn't working.

u shuld try turning ur phone on airplane mode then back off again. sounds dumb but it reset something for me and then the website loaded. for the pin issue tho ur gonna need to call them probably 😬

Tried that but didn't work 😞 Thanks anyway

I swear they do this on purpose every few months to discourage people from claiming! It's like they want us to give up and stop collecting benefits that we're entitled to. The whole system needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

100% facts. They make it so complicated hoping people will just stop claiming.

Conspiracy theory much? 🙄 It's just outdated technology, not some evil plot

You must not have dealt with NY unemployment very long lol. This pattern has been going on for years, even before the pandemic.

Have you tried calling the alternate number? Sometimes the main line gets overwhelmed but the secondary lines work better. Try 888-209-8124 if you've been using the other one. Press 9 for pin problems specifically.

I'll try this tomorrow morning - thanks for the tip!

Just saw on Twitter that they're having technical issues statewide. Something about a database migration gone wrong. They're saying it should be fixed by Monday but who knows with these clowns 🤡

I had this exact problem 2 weeks ago. The issue was that my account got flagged for "suspicious activity" (which was just me trying to log in from different devices). Had to call and verify my identity. Try claimyr.com to get through to someone. Worked for me after days of frustration.

Yo is this claimyr thing actually helpful? Keep seeing people recommend it

Yeah it worked for me. Basically saves you from being on hold forever. The unemployment office picked up for them in like 45 mins when I had been trying for days with no luck.

Does anyone know if there's an email address we can use instead of calling? I've been dealing with the same issues and can't get through on any phone line.

There's a contact form on their website but they take forever to respond. I submitted one 3 weeks ago and still nothing

Try messaging them on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team is more responsive than their actual support staff 💯

Have you tried using the mobile app instead of the website? Sometimes it works when the main site is down. The NY unemployment app isn't great but it might be a workaround for now.

I didn't even know they had an app! Will look for it now

Search for "NY State" in app store - it has multiple services including unemployment. The interface is terrible but at least it works most of the time
