NY unemployment phone claim system rejecting my PIN - website also down completely

Is anyone else having trouble claiming NY unemployment benefits by phone today? The automated system keeps telling me my PIN is incorrect even though I KNOW it's right (been using the same one for months!). I've tried 3 times already and I'm worried about getting locked out. The website isn't working either - I've tried Chrome, Firefox and even Safari but it won't load at all, just keeps spinning forever. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this? My payment is already late and I need to certify before the week ends!

The NY unemployment system is experiencing some technical difficulties today. I just got off the phone with someone at NYSDOL after trying for 2 hours. They confirmed they're having issues with both the phone system and website due to a scheduled update that went wrong. They recommend trying again after 6pm when the maintenance should be complete. If you need to speak with an agent directly, I'd suggest using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they helped me get through today despite the system issues. There's a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - basically helps you bypass the usual phone wait times.

Thanks for letting me know! I was starting to panic. Will try again tonight after 6. Do you know if I'll still get paid on time if I certify today after the system comes back up?

It's so frustrating! Have you been able to get through at all? I'm worried about missing my certification window.

This happens almost every time they do system updates. The NYSDOL never properly communicates these outages in advance, which is incredibly frustrating. A few things to try: 1. For the phone system, try entering your PIN very slowly with a pause between each digit 2. If you have any special characters in your website password, try a different password reset when the site is back up 3. Make sure to certify as soon as the system is back online - they do allow a grace period when system outages occur The good news is that your benefits won't be affected as long as you certify within 7 days of your regular certification day. And don't worry about the PIN errors - it won't lock you out during known system outages.

Thank you SO much for the detailed advice! I'll try entering my PIN more slowly when I call back. I was worried about getting locked out so that's a relief.

The website has been glitchy for me for weeks now, not just today. Sometimes I can get in after trying 5-6 times. Their whole system needs a complete overhaul if you ask me.

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!! spent $400 MILLION on upgrades in 2023 and the system is WORSE than before!! i've had nothing but problems since january. can't even get anyone on the phone and when you do they just transfer you around until you get disconnected. TOTAL DISASTER.

I just tried the website and it's working now for me. Maybe try clearing your cache or using incognito mode? That sometimes helps with the NY unemployment site loading issues.

Just tried incognito mode but still not loading for me... guess I'll keep trying. Thanks for the suggestion though!

This happens pretty regularly with the NY unemployment system. I've been on unemployment since January and I've learned some workarounds. If phone says PIN is wrong but you're certain it's correct, it usually means their system is having issues verifying PINs, not that yours is actually wrong. For the website, try using a mobile device with data (not wifi) - sometimes that works when regular browsers don't. Also, don't panic about certifying late. If it's due to a documented system outage, you can explain that when you finally get through and they'll backdate your certification. Just make sure to keep trying so you have evidence you attempted to certify on your regular day.

That's a smart idea about using mobile data instead of wifi - I'll try that! And good to know about the backdating. I was worried I'd lose this week's payment entirely.

Update: The NYSDOL just posted on their Twitter account that the system should be fully operational again by 8pm tonight. They're extending the certification window by 24 hours for anyone affected by today's outage.

GUYS IT'S WORKING NOW!! I just got through on the phone system and was able to certify. My PIN worked fine this time. For anyone still having issues, keep trying - seems like they're slowly bringing everything back online!

Great to hear! For anyone else reading this thread later, this is a good reminder to always try certifying early in your certification window rather than waiting until the last day. System outages like this happen frequently enough that it's good to give yourself some buffer time.
