Won my TWC appeal hearing - how long until benefits payment hits my account?
Just had a major win and need some advice from folks who've been here before! I got laid off in January 2025 when my company downsized. Applied for TWC benefits right away but got disqualified in February (employer claimed I wasn't meeting performance standards - total BS). I immediately filed an appeal and FINALLY had my hearing last Thursday. The examiner actually listened to my evidence and reversed the determination in my favor! Got the official letter yesterday confirming I won.\n\nNow I'm wondering how long it typically takes for TWC to process the backpay and start sending payments? It's been over 3 months since I first applied and my savings are basically gone. Do they automatically start processing or do I need to call someone? Should I keep submitting payment requests while I wait? The letter doesn't really explain next steps.

Congrats on winning your appeal! Here's what happens next:\n\n1) TWC typically processes appeal payments within 7-14 business days after the decision is finalized\n2) You MUST continue requesting payment for all weeks you're eligible (even retroactively)\n3) Make sure your work search activities are documented for all weeks\n4) Your first payment will include all eligible back weeks since your initial claim\n\nDouble-check your correspondence inbox on the TWC portal for any additional requirements. Sometimes they need additional verification before releasing funds after an appeal.

Thank you! That's super helpful. I've been faithfully doing my work search activities and payment requests even during the appeal, so sounds like I'm on the right track. If nothing happens by next Friday, should I try calling them?

glad u won!! my cousin just went thru same thing and it took about 10 days to see the $$. make sure u did all ur payment requests for the weeks they owe u or they wont pay u for them

10 days sounds reasonable! And yes, I've been doing all my payment requests every two weeks like clockwork even though they were getting denied. Fingers crossed it comes through soon.

The EXACT same thing happened to me last month!!! My company said I was terminated for performance but I had ZERO write-ups in my file. Won my appeal on March 3rd and got my first payment March 15th - almost 2 weeks. But here's the important part - they didn't pay me for 2 weeks because I hadn't done the payment requests during the appeal process because I thought what's the point??? BIG MISTAKE!!! You can't get backpay for weeks you didn't request payment, even if you win your appeal. Make sure you've requested payment for EVERY week!!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's so similar to my situation. Employers think they can just make up whatever and TWC will believe them. Thankfully I've been requesting payment for all weeks so I should be good on that front. Did your payment just show up one day or did they notify you it was coming?

It just showed up on my BoA card with ZERO notice! I was checking it every day like a crazy person lol. TWC never sent any kind of notification first.

I handle TWC appeals professionally, and the timeline varies considerably. While many receive payment within 7-14 days after a favorable appeal decision, I've seen it take up to 3-4 weeks in some cases, particularly if there are any other issues with the claim that need addressing.\n\nA few important points:\n1. The TWC system must manually process appeal reversals\n2. Continue filing payment requests for ALL weeks (including past weeks)\n3. There may be a \

Thank you for the professional perspective! That's really helpful. I'll give it 14 business days before I panic. My claim is pretty straightforward otherwise, so hopefully nothing will delay it further.

Oh no, that's terrifying to hear. I really can't wait 6 weeks - my landlord is already getting impatient. Did you try contacting your state rep or anything to speed it up?

I didn't think of contacting my state rep, but I should have. What finally worked was my friend told me about Claimyr.com - it got me through to an actual TWC person in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. Once I got someone on the phone who actually looked at my file, they were able to release the payment within 48 hours. Before that I was just getting the runaround.

•@KylieRose Does not work- called 800-939-6631 and every time I pressed 1 # # # it would just replay the original recoring asking for my ss#, so I also tried entering my ss# and then after that processed I dialed 1 # # # and it just repeats the recording to pick an option then tells me no one is available.

Thanks for the tip about calling early! I'll definitely try that if I don't see movement in 2 weeks. Did you get all your backpay at once or did it come in chunks?

Mine came all at once, but I've heard others say it sometimes comes in 2-3 separate deposits, especially if it's a large amount covering many weeks. The system is weird like that.

Did you win your appeal because the employer didn't show up? Or was it because you had actual evidence? My appeal is next week and I'm nervous because I don't have a lot of documentation, just my word against theirs.

Zoe Papadopoulos
They actually did show up, but they couldn't produce any documentation of the performance issues they claimed. I had copies of my good performance reviews and an email from my supervisor from just 2 weeks before layoffs saying I was meeting expectations. The hearing officer wasn't impressed with their lack of evidence. Good luck with yours!

Just checking back - has your payment come through yet? If it's been more than 14 business days, you should definitely try to reach TWC directly. Sometimes there's a disconnect between the Appeals Department and the Benefits Payment system that requires manual intervention.

No payment yet, and it's been 8 business days now. My account status finally changed from disqualified to eligible yesterday, so I'm hoping that means it's moving through their system. I'll give it until the end of next week before I start calling. Thanks for checking in!

That's a great sign that your status changed to eligible! In my experience, once the system updates the eligibility status, payments usually follow within 3-5 business days. The fact that it took 8 days to update suggests their system is just slow right now, but you're definitely moving in the right direction. Keep an eye on your payment method (direct deposit or debit card) over the next few days. And definitely keep doing those payment requests - you're so close to getting what you're owed!

Congrats on winning your appeal! That's such a relief after going through that stressful process. I went through something similar last year and the waiting for payment after winning was almost as nerve-wracking as the appeal itself. From what I've seen in this community, the 7-14 business day timeline seems pretty accurate for most people. The key things that helped me were: 1) checking my TWC account daily to see when the status changed from disqualified to eligible (sounds like yours just updated!), 2) making sure I had requested payment for every single week I was unemployed, and 3) having my direct deposit info up to date. One thing that might help while you wait - if you have the TWC mobile app, sometimes the payment shows up there before it hits your bank account. I remember refreshing that thing like crazy! Hang in there, you're so close to getting the money you deserve.

•Thanks @c2c2eb1d9538! That's really encouraging to hear from someone who's been through the same thing. I didn't even know there was a TWC mobile app - I've just been checking the website obsessively. I'll download it right now and hopefully it'll give me a heads up when the payment is coming. You're right that this waiting period is almost as stressful as the appeal itself! At least with the appeal I felt like I had some control over the outcome, but now it's just... waiting for their system to do its thing. Really appreciate the reassurance that I'm on the right track.

Hey Zoe! Congrats on winning your appeal - that must be such a huge relief! I went through a similar situation about 6 months ago (employer claimed job abandonment when I was actually on approved FMLA). Since your account status just changed to eligible yesterday, you're definitely moving in the right direction! In my case, once the status flipped from disqualified to eligible, I got my payment exactly 4 business days later. It sounds like you've been doing everything right by continuing to request payment for all weeks. One tip that might help - if you have direct deposit set up, the payment usually hits overnight on a Tuesday or Wednesday. If you're using the TWC debit card, it can sometimes take an extra day or two. Also, when the payment does come through, it'll be one lump sum covering all your eligible weeks, which is nice! You mentioned it's been over 3 months since you first applied - that backpay is going to be substantial. Hang in there, you're almost at the finish line!

•Thanks @e351e6827d43! That's so reassuring to hear from someone who had a similar timeline. 4 business days after the status change sounds much more manageable than some of the horror stories I've been reading. I do have direct deposit set up, so hopefully that will speed things along. You're absolutely right about the backpay being substantial - it's going to be such a relief when it finally comes through. I've been living off ramen and prayer for the past month! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly what I needed to hear.

Congrats on winning your appeal! That's such a huge victory after dealing with all that stress. I just wanted to add one thing I learned from my own appeal process last year - make sure you screenshot or save copies of that favorable determination letter and any correspondence showing your status change to "eligible." I've seen a few cases where people had technical glitches in the TWC system that temporarily reverted their status back to disqualified, and having those documents made it much easier to get things straightened out with a quick phone call rather than going through the whole appeal process again. Also, since you mentioned your savings are basically gone - if for some reason the payment gets delayed beyond the normal 14 business day window, don't hesitate to reach out to local food banks or assistance programs. There's no shame in getting help while you wait for what you're rightfully owed. You've already proven you deserve these benefits! Sounds like you're on the right track though - keeping up with those payment requests and having your status finally flip to eligible are both really good signs. Fingers crossed you see that deposit soon!

•That's really smart advice about screenshotting everything @001d91057593! I hadn't even thought about the possibility of system glitches reverting the status back. I just took screenshots of my determination letter and the current eligible status - better safe than sorry. And thank you for mentioning the food banks without making it feel awkward. I've been too proud to consider that option, but you're right that there's no shame in getting help while waiting for money that's rightfully mine. I actually looked up a couple local places just in case the payment gets delayed further. Really appreciate the practical advice and encouragement!

Hey Zoe, congrats on winning your appeal! That's awesome that you had all the documentation to back up your case. I'm actually going through something similar right now - got denied in February and my appeal hearing is scheduled for next week. Quick question - you mentioned you kept doing payment requests even during the appeal process. Did you have to do anything special to request payment for the weeks that were already denied? I've been skipping them because I assumed there was no point, but after reading @fd117e848dbe's comment about losing out on backpay, I'm worried I might have messed up. Also, did you have to provide any additional work search documentation during the appeal hearing itself, or was it mainly focused on the termination circumstances? Trying to make sure I'm prepared for everything. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's giving me hope that I might actually win this thing!

•Hey @8c2f9ba5ad6f! Thanks and good luck with your hearing next week! For the payment requests - you can actually go back and request payment for weeks you missed! Log into your TWC account and look for the "Request Payment" option. It should let you select previous weeks that you haven't requested yet. Definitely do this ASAP because Giovanni was right - they won't pay you for weeks you didn't request, even if you win your appeal. For my hearing, it was mainly focused on the termination circumstances. The examiner wanted to hear my side of the story and see any documentation I had (performance reviews, emails, etc.). The work search stuff barely came up - I think they assume if you're appealing the termination reason, you've been doing work searches all along. Just make sure you have proof ready of whatever your employer claimed was the reason for termination. You've got this! Having a hearing scheduled is already a good sign that TWC thinks there might be merit to your case. Make sure to speak clearly, stick to the facts, and bring any documentation that contradicts what your employer said.

Hey Zoe! Congratulations on winning your appeal - that's such a huge relief after months of stress! I went through a very similar situation about 8 months ago. My employer also claimed "performance issues" with zero documentation to back it up (surprise, surprise). Here's my timeline after winning the appeal: Got the favorable decision on a Tuesday, account status changed to eligible the following Monday, and payment hit my bank account that Thursday - so about 9 business days total. The fact that your status already changed to eligible yesterday is a really good sign that their system is processing everything. One thing I'll add that others haven't mentioned - when you do get your payment, double-check the amount against what you calculated you should receive. In my case, they initially underpaid me by about $400 because there was a glitch with one of my weekly benefit amounts. I had to call and get it corrected, but they fixed it pretty quickly once I pointed out the discrepancy. Also, totally agree with everyone saying to keep doing those payment requests religiously. Even though it feels pointless when they keep getting denied, you're doing exactly the right thing. You're so close to getting what you're owed - hang in there!

•Thanks for sharing your timeline @8d10885449f3! 9 business days sounds very reasonable and gives me hope since I'm already at day 8. That's a really important tip about double-checking the payment amount - I wouldn't have thought to verify it against my own calculations. I'll make sure to add up what I should be getting for all those weeks so I can catch any errors right away. It's crazy how many little things can go wrong in their system! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and encourage me. This community has been so helpful during this whole stressful process.

Hey Zoe! Congrats on winning your appeal - that's such a huge victory! I just went through a similar situation a few months ago where my employer tried to claim misconduct when they really just laid me off due to budget cuts. From what I've seen, the timeline everyone's sharing sounds about right. Since your status already changed to "eligible" yesterday, that's actually a really good sign that things are moving through their system. In my case, once that status flipped, I got my payment within a week. One thing I'd recommend - make sure you have notifications turned on for your bank account or TWC debit card. My payment showed up at like 3am on a Wednesday with no advance warning from TWC. I only found out because I got a text from my bank about a large deposit! Also, since you mentioned being tight on money - if you're in the Dallas area, the North Texas Food Bank has some great resources that can help bridge the gap while you wait for your backpay. No judgment at all, just practical help when you need it most. You did everything right by keeping up with those payment requests and having good documentation for your appeal. The money is coming - TWC's system is just painfully slow sometimes. Hang in there!

•Thanks @fb4a3c58dfcf! That's such great advice about turning on bank notifications - I would have never thought of that but you're absolutely right that it could show up at any random time. I just enabled text alerts for deposits over $100 so I won't miss it when it hits. And thank you for mentioning the North Texas Food Bank without making it weird - I'm actually in the Houston area but I'm sure there are similar resources here. It's been really eye-opening to see how supportive this community is. Everyone sharing their timelines and experiences has made this whole waiting period so much less stressful. Knowing that other people have been through the exact same thing and came out the other side really helps!

Hey Zoe! Congrats on winning your appeal - what a relief that must be after all that stress! I'm actually going through something very similar right now. Got laid off in December, denied benefits in January because my employer claimed I "voluntarily quit" (complete nonsense), and I have my appeal hearing scheduled for next Friday. Reading through everyone's experiences here is giving me so much hope! It sounds like you did everything perfectly - keeping up with payment requests during the appeal and having solid documentation to counter their bogus claims. Since your status just changed to eligible yesterday, that's definitely a good sign that the payment processing is moving along. From what everyone's sharing, it seems like once that status flips, you're usually looking at just a few more business days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your payment comes through super quick! And thank you for sharing your experience - it's really encouraging for those of us still fighting our appeals. The fact that the hearing officer actually listened to your evidence and saw through your employer's BS gives me hope that there are still fair people in the system. Hang in there - you're so close to getting what you're rightfully owed!

•@ad525049ee79 Good luck with your appeal hearing next Friday! It sounds like you're in a very similar situation to what I went through. The "voluntary quit" claim when you were actually laid off is such a common tactic employers use - it's infuriating but the good news is that appeal examiners see right through it when you have even basic documentation. Make sure to bring any emails, texts, or paperwork that shows you were laid off rather than quitting. Even something as simple as a company-wide email about layoffs or budget cuts can be really powerful evidence. The key is staying calm and factual during the hearing - let your evidence do the talking! I'll be rooting for you and hopefully we'll both have our payments sorted out soon. This community has been such a lifesaver during this whole process.

Hey Zoe! Congratulations on winning your appeal - that's such a huge victory after dealing with all that stress and uncertainty! I'm currently waiting for my own appeal hearing (scheduled for next month) so it's really encouraging to hear success stories like yours. Based on what everyone else is sharing, it sounds like you're right on track with the timing. The fact that your account status changed from disqualified to eligible is definitely a positive sign that their system is processing everything. From the experiences shared here, it looks like most people see their payment within a few business days once that status flips. I've been following this community for a while now and the advice about continuing to do payment requests during the appeal seems to be absolutely critical - sounds like you were smart to keep doing that! It's frustrating that TWC doesn't make this clearer in their process. Keep us posted on when your payment comes through - it'll give hope to those of us still in the appeals process. After 3+ months of this ordeal, you definitely deserve to get your benefits quickly. Fingers crossed it shows up in your account very soon!
