TWC still pending after manual ID verification - 3 months and no payment!

I'm at my wit's end with this ID verification nightmare! My husband was approved for unemployment in August 2025, but we haven't received a SINGLE payment because of this ID.me mess. He's completed the ID.me verification process THREE separate times, and TWC claims they never received anything! When he finally got through to someone last week (after calling 47 times), they told him to manually upload his ID documents directly through the TWC portal instead. He submitted his driver's license, social security card, and a utility bill right away, but the claim is still showing 'Payment Hold - ID Verification Pending.' It's been over 3 months since approval with zero money! Has anyone dealt with this manual verification process? How long before they actually process it and release payments? I'm seriously concerned we're going to lose our apartment while waiting for this bureaucratic nightmare to end.

I went through this exact same garbage back in September. The ID.me system is completely broken! TWC told me they received my verification but then my account still showed the hold. I had to call every single day for two weeks straight before I got someone who actually knew what they were doing. Turns out there's a separate department that handles ID verification issues, and regular agents can't do anything except put in a 'ticket' that nobody ever looks at. When I finally got through to the ID verification team, they fixed it in 5 minutes and I got backpay within 3 days. You NEED to specifically ask for the identity verification resolution team when you call.

Thank you! Did they transfer you directly to that team or did you have to call a different number? We've been trying the main TWC line but it's always busy or disconnects us after waiting forever.

3 months?! That's insane but at least it gives us some idea of the timeline. Did he have to keep requesting payment every week even though nothing was coming through?

I've been on unemployment since June, and I've learned that TWC is COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED with verification issues right now. The phone system is a joke - I spent 4 weeks trying to get through. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from TWC within an hour instead of calling and getting busy signals all day. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh When I finally spoke to someone, they told me the ID verification backlog is about 4-6 weeks right now for manual submissions. Make sure you keep requesting payment every two weeks even though it shows the hold - once they verify him, they'll release all the backpay at once, but only for weeks properly requested!

Thank you for the tip about continuing to request payments! I was wondering about that. And I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service - at this point I'd try anything to get this resolved. 4-6 weeks for manual verification is ridiculous when bills are due now. 😫

The same thing happened to me, but mine was stuck for only 3 weeks, not months! Make sure your husband uploaded CLEAR, READABLE copies of his documents. My first submission was rejected because apparently my driver's license photo was too blurry (even though it looked fine to me). Also, did he submit his ID verification through the Unemployment Benefit Services portal or the general TWC website? It HAS to be through the UBS portal under 'Submission of Required Documents' for it to connect properly to his claim.

Oh no, he just uploaded them through the general document upload section! The TWC rep didn't specify it needed to be through the UBS portal. That could be the problem! I'll have him resubmit through the correct section tonight. Thank you so much for pointing this out.

I work with unemployment claims daily and can provide some accurate information here: 1. TWC is currently experiencing a major backlog with ID verification due to a system upgrade that happened in August 2025. 2. The manual verification process typically takes 14-21 business days under normal circumstances, but is currently taking 30-45 business days due to the backlog. 3. Make sure your husband continues to request payment for every eligible payment period even while waiting for ID verification. Once verified, he'll receive all eligible back payments automatically. 4. For fastest resolution, have these documents ready when you call: claim ID number, confirmation numbers from all ID.me attempts, and the document upload reference numbers. 5. Ask specifically for a 'Priority ID Verification Review' when you call. This is a special queue created for cases pending over 45 days. Hope this helps clarify the process!

This is incredibly helpful information! We'll definitely ask for the Priority ID Verification Review since we're already at the 90+ day mark. I didn't know about the system upgrade issue - that explains a lot about why this has been so frustrating. Thank you!

have u tried talking to ur state representative? thats what i had to do when twc messed up my claim for 2 months. they fixed it in like 3 days after my rep contacted them lol

THIS! 👆 Legislative intervention works wonders for TWC issues. They have dedicated staff that handle legislative inquiries, and those get prioritized. Call your state rep's office and explain the situation. They'll have you fill out a privacy release form and then they'll contact TWC on your behalf.

MY HUSBAND HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE!!!! We went 5 MONTHS with NO PAYMENTS because of this stupid verification nonsense!!! The ID.me thing is BROKEN and TWC knows it but won't fix it!!! What finally worked for us was my husband physically going to a TWC office with ALL his documents (bring EVERYTHING - SSN card, birth certificate, DL, passport if he has one, bills with his name, etc). The in-person staff were actually helpful and cleared his identity verification that same day. We got all back payments within 2 weeks. Don't waste time with the phone or online - GO IN PERSON!!!!!

I didn't realize going in person was an option! The nearest TWC office is about an hour away, but at this point it's worth the drive if it could resolve this. Did he need an appointment or could he just walk in? And did you need to bring the physical documents or just digital copies on your phone?

you NEED an appointment now - they changed it in october. go to texas.gov/twc-appointments to schedule. and BRING PHYSICAL DOCUMENTS, they wouldn't accept digital when we went!!!!

I don't mean to go off topic but this is why the system is so broken. My neighbor hasn't worked in 3 years and somehow got approved instantly with no verification issues while hardworking people like your husband have to jump through 500 hoops just to get what they deserve. The whole thing is designed to make you give up.

That's not helpful or accurate. TWC's verification system applies to everyone equally. Your neighbor either had a different type of claim or you don't have all the facts. Let's focus on helping OP with their specific verification issue rather than making unfounded claims about the system being rigged.

Update on my earlier comment - I just checked with a friend who works at TWC, and she confirmed they implemented a new expedited process for cases over 60 days old last week. Call the main TWC number, select option 2, then 1, then when prompted for your claim ID, press *#0 (star, pound, zero). This bypasses the regular queue and should connect you to a specialist who can specifically address ID verification backlog cases. They've apparently added weekend staff just to clear this backlog. Good luck!

Oh my goodness, thank you SO MUCH for this insider tip! We'll try this first thing tomorrow morning. I really appreciate you checking with your friend and sharing this information. I'll update here if it works!

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My claim has been stuck in ID verification limbo for 6 weeks after completing ID.me twice. What's really frustrating is that TWC's own website says verification should take 5-7 business days, but clearly that's not happening. I've been documenting everything - screenshot every submission, save confirmation emails, write down the names and badge numbers of anyone you talk to. Also, if your husband is a veteran, there's supposedly a separate expedited line for veterans' claims that might move faster. The whole system is a mess, but don't give up! Keep fighting for what you're owed.

That's a great point about documenting everything! I wish I had started doing that from the beginning. We've been so overwhelmed trying to get through to anyone that we didn't think to keep detailed records. I'll definitely start taking screenshots and saving all confirmation numbers going forward. My husband isn't a veteran, but I'll mention that tip to others who might be. 6 weeks is way too long for something that should take a week - this whole situation is just unacceptable when people are depending on these benefits to survive!

I'm going through this nightmare right now too! Been waiting 2 months since my ID.me verification and still nothing. What's really helped me is creating a daily call log with times, who I spoke to, and what they said - it's helped me track which reps actually know what they're talking about vs the ones who just put you on hold forever. Also found out that if you get disconnected during a call, you can reference your previous call within 24 hours and they can pull up the notes, so always ask for a reference number before hanging up. The whole system is absolutely broken but we can't let them wear us down! Keep pushing and definitely try that new *#0 trick that Carmen mentioned - fingers crossed it works for all of us dealing with this mess.
