TWC requiring ID.me verification but husband blocked by duplicate accounts issue - 3 months no resolution

My husband's TWC claim is completely stuck because of this ID.me mess! They're demanding he verify his identity, but when he tries to log in, ID.me says he has "duplicate accounts" and can't proceed. The bigger problem? He can't access his old email address that's tied to whatever account they think exists. We've been dealing with this nightmare since September. First call, they promised to "submit a ticket" and we heard absolutely nothing back. Called again in October, and they gave us an email address to manually send verification documents to. My husband sent everything - driver's license, social security card, utility bills - and guess what? Complete silence AGAIN! Meanwhile, his unemployment benefits are on hold, bills are piling up, and every time we call TWC, we get transferred around in circles with zero actual help. Has anyone gotten past this ID.me duplicate account issue? I'm at my wits' end and we're about to be late on our mortgage because of this ridiculous verification loop!

Omg I literally just fixed this exact problem last week!! The ID.me system is a nightmare. What worked for me was creating a BRAND NEW email address (like totally new, I used gmail), then going to ID.me website (NOT through TWC) and clicking the "forgot password" option. When it asks for your email, put in your husband's CURRENT email that he CAN access. This sometimes forces their system to recognize the conflict and sends you to their special help desk. If that doesn't work, try calling ID.me directly at 866-775-4363. Don't bother with TWC anymore on this - they have zero control over ID.me's systems. The ID.me people can manually merge the accounts. Took me like 45 minutes on hold but they finally fixed it! Good luck!!

Thank you so much!! We've been focusing all our energy on TWC and not ID.me directly. I'm going to try both your suggestions today. Did you have any trouble getting them to merge accounts without access to the old email? That's our biggest concern.

This is unfortunately a common issue with ID.me verification for TWC claims. There are several important things to understand: 1. TWC and ID.me are separate systems, so TWC representatives often can't directly fix ID.me account problems 2. For duplicate accounts, contact ID.me support directly at support@id.me - include your full name, current email, and explain the duplicate account issue 3. ID.me also offers video chat verification as an alternative - this bypasses the email verification process but requires a smartphone/webcam and valid photo ID 4. While waiting for this to resolve, make sure your husband continues requesting payment every two weeks even if no money is coming through - this preserves claim status 5. Document every contact attempt with dates, times, and representative names if possible The email submission method TWC suggested sometimes works but can take 3-4 weeks for processing. Keep following up weekly.

The video chat verification saved me after 2 weeks of account hell! Had to wait almost 3 hrs for an agent but they fixed everything on the spot. Definitly try this route if your trying to avoid the back-and-forth emailng that takes 4ever.

I wasted WEEKS trying to get TWC to answer their phones about my ID.me problems. Finally I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to a TWC rep within 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days! They have this demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The TWC rep I spoke with was able to put notes on my account and then directed me to ID.me's special support for government verification issues. Way better than sending documents into the void and hoping someone looks at them. Worth every penny to get this fixed without wasting more weeks.

Does this really work? I've been calling TWC for 2 weeks straight with no luck. Always busy signal or it hangs up on me after the automated messages.

The ID.me duplicate account problem requires a specific resolution process: 1. First, do NOT create any new ID.me accounts as this will further complicate the situation 2. Contact ID.me's dedicated Texas Workforce support at support@id.me with subject line "TWC VERIFICATION - DUPLICATE ACCOUNT" 3. In your email include: full name, date of birth, last 4 of SSN, current email address, and any previous email addresses you may have used 4. You can also call their Texas-specific support line at 866-775-4363 and select the government services option 5. Request a manual verification review by a trusted referee (this is their term for video verification agents) The manual submission process your husband tried should work, but there's currently a 4-6 week backlog. ID.me operates separately from TWC, which is why TWC representatives often can't provide real assistance with these account issues. While waiting for resolution, ensure your husband continues his regular payment requests to maintain his claim status.

Thank you for the detailed steps! This is so helpful. We'll email them right away with that specific subject line and all the info you mentioned. Is there anything specific we should say to request the manual verification review? We really need to get this resolved ASAP before we miss another mortgage payment.

Had the EXACT smae problm!! So frustrating!!! What workd for me wasnt calling TWC at all (waste of time) but going thru ID.me's recovery process. Go to ID.me website, click help at bottom, then "contact support" and make a ticket about duplicate accounts. They took like 3 days to reply but then sent special link for video verification. The video call took foreeeever (like 2 hrs waiting) but then was done in 10 mins once I talked to person. Had my benefits flowing next day!! DONT bother with the email verification stuff, nobody reads those emails I swear. Do the video verification!!!

Thank you! Several people have mentioned the video verification option, which we hadn't even heard about from TWC. Going to try this approach too. 2 hours wait sounds painful but still better than 3+ months of no progress!

This whole ID.me system is deliberately designed to deny people benefits. My cousin went through similar hell for FIVE MONTHS. Texas uses this broken verification system on purpose to save money by making claims so difficult that people give up. It's disgusting how they treat people who just need their legitimate benefits. The fact that your husband sent in ALL his documents and they still ignored him proves my point. They're hoping you'll just go away. DON'T GIVE UP! Keep fighting them and document everything for when you eventually need to involve your state representative or file a complaint.

While I understand your frustration, ID.me is actually a federal contractor used by many states and federal agencies, not something Texas created to deny benefits. The verification requirements were significantly increased following the massive unemployment fraud during the pandemic. That said, the implementation definitely has serious flaws and the lack of coordination between ID.me and TWC is a legitimate problem that needs addressing.

Thanks for the tip about the correspondence inbox! I just checked and there are 2 messages in there we haven't responded to because we were so focused on the ID.me issue. Going to take care of those right now.

I had similar issues but not with duplicate accounts. What I don't understand is why TWC relies on this terrible verification system that nobody can get help with??? My benefits were delayed 7 weeks because of ID.me problems. Even when I finally did the video verification, it took another 2 weeks for TWC to acknowledge it in their system. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.

You're right that there's a synchronization delay between ID.me and TWC systems. After successful verification with ID.me, claimants should wait 48-72 hours, then contact TWC to confirm the verification status has been updated in their system. Sometimes this requires a manual update on TWC's side. This is particularly important in cases involving duplicate accounts or identity verification issues.

Update: We're making progress! We tried several of your suggestions. First, we sent an email to ID.me support with "TWC VERIFICATION - DUPLICATE ACCOUNT" in the subject line. Then we also scheduled a video verification call (3 hour wait but worth it). The video agent was able to confirm my husband's identity and said they've noted the duplicate account issue and are merging them. They said it would take 24-48 hours to complete and then the TWC system should update within another 72 hours. I'll post again once we know if the benefits are flowing again. Thank you all SO MUCH for your help! TWC really needs to provide better guidance on these ID.me issues rather than leaving people stuck for months.

That's awesome news! The video verification is definitely the way to go. Fingers crossed your husband's benefits start flowing again soon. Please do update us!
