TWC approved my claim but can't log in after ID verification - confused about waiting period and missed payments
I'm so confused about my TWC claim status right now! I filed for unemployment on 6/18 and got a phone call in early July saying I was approved. I started submitting payment requests normally after that.\n\nThen last week I got a letter saying I needed to verify my identity, which I did right away. But now I've received another letter saying I can't be paid for those 2 weeks in July?? The letter mentioned something about a 'waiting period' but I don't understand what that means.\n\nI have to request payment again next Tuesday but I'm worried I'm going to lose more weeks. And to make everything worse, I can't even log into my account anymore - it just shows an error message! I've been calling TWC constantly but can't get through to anyone.\n\nDoes anyone know what this 'waiting period' actually is? And why am I suddenly locked out of my account right after verifying my identity? I'm getting really stressed about bills piling up.

The waiting period is normal - it's the first week of your claim that serves as an unpaid 'waiting week.' Texas requires this for all unemployment claims. You'll get paid for every eligible week after that waiting period as long as you keep requesting payments on your scheduled day.\n\nAs for the login issue, that's pretty common after ID.me verification. The systems don't always sync up immediately. Try these steps:\n1. Clear your browser cache and cookies\n2. Wait 24-48 hours after verification before trying again\n3. Try using a different browser entirely\n\nIf you still can't log in after trying those, you definitely need to speak with a TWC agent directly to fix the account issue.

Thanks for explaining the waiting period! So that first week in July won't be paid no matter what? That's frustrating but at least I understand now.\n\nI tried clearing my cache and using Edge instead of Chrome but still getting the same error. It's been 4 days since I verified through ID.me so it should have synced by now, right?

sameee thing happened to me last month!!! the waiting week is so STUPID, like we need that money right away not after we've already been struggling!! and the website is always broken smh

Right?? Like why make us wait when we're already stressed about money? Did your login issue eventually fix itself or did you have to call them?

The reason you can't get paid for those 2 weeks in July might be because of the waiting week PLUS you may have had a break in claim issue from when you did the ID verification. If you missed a payment request deadline because of the verification process, that could explain the second week.\n\nI've been through the TWC system 3 times in the last few years and they're always finding ways to not pay you for something. Make sure you're doing your 3 work searches each week and documenting them carefully, because they'll use ANY excuse to disqualify weeks.

Oh no, that's scary. I don't think I missed any payment request deadlines, but now I'm worried. Is there any way to check my work search requirements? The letter didn't mention anything about that being a problem.

If you need to talk to someone at TWC quickly, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) last month when I had a similar issue with ID verification locking me out. They got me through to a TWC rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending days hitting redial. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh\n\nIt was honestly worth it because the TWC agent was able to fix my account access while I was on the phone with them. Otherwise I would've been locked out for who knows how long.

Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if I can't get through by the end of the week. I'm worried about missing my next payment request since I can't log in.

The waiting period is confusing but it works like this:\n\n1. First week after you apply = waiting week (unpaid)\n2. You'll get paid for weeks after that IF you request payment on time\n3. BUT you only get the waiting week paid AFTER you've received 3 regular payments AND returned to work full-time\n\nSo basically most people never actually get that first week paid unless they go back to work pretty quickly.\n\nFor your login issue, sometimes the TWC system and ID.me have synchronization problems. Try logging in with your old password first (the one before ID.me verification). If that doesn't work, try the password reset option on the TWC login page.

Thank you for breaking it down like that! I had no idea the waiting week payment had those conditions. I tried the password reset option but it says my account is locked and to call customer service... which I can't get through on. It's such a frustrating loop.

I'll try that tomorrow! I've been calling around 9am so maybe that's too late already. Did they ask you for any specific information when you finally got through?

Just to follow up on your work search question - you can verify your work search requirements in your TWC correspondence inbox when you're able to log back in. The standard is 3 work search activities per week for most counties in Texas. Make sure you're documenting all your work search activities with dates, company names, and contact information in case you get selected for a random audit.\n\nAnd yes, definitely try calling right at 7am when they open. That's usually the best time to get through, though it can still take multiple attempts.

Thank you! I've been doing at least 3 job applications per week and keeping track in a spreadsheet just in case. I'll definitely try the 7am call tomorrow - wish me luck!

Just my two cents - but I think this shows how messed up the TWC system is. They require us to verify with ID.me but then their own system breaks when we do? And they're impossible to reach by phone? Then they don't pay us for weeks because of THEIR technical issues? I've been dealing with this nonsense since January and I'm so done with the whole system.

Exactly! And they designed it this way ON PURPOSE. Make it hard to login, hard to call, confusing letters, waiting periods... it's all to discourage people from getting the benefits they deserve. I've seen this pattern every time the economy gets rough.

That gives me hope! Did they explain why it got flagged for review? I'm wondering if the same thing happened to mine.

I just checked the TWC website and they're currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes due to system updates. That might explain why you're having trouble getting through AND why your account is having issues after ID.me verification. \n\nIf you absolutely can't get through on the phone and can't log in, you can also try emailing them through the contact form on the TWC website, or even reach out to your state representative's office - they often have direct lines to TWC staff for constituent services.

I had no idea about contacting my state rep! That's a great backup plan if I can't get through this week. Thank you!
